Kentucky Shoppers Facing Supply Chain Issues On Cyber Monday  Kentucky shoppers are likely to face shipping delays and shortages as they try to catch deals on one of the busiest online shopping days of the year.  Cyber Monday got off to an early start this morning with shoppers logging on to try to find holiday presents that will arrive in time for giving season.  Director of communications and public affairs for the Kentucky Retail Federation Steve McClain says shoppers should expect to find lots of sold out items.  McClain says people should also be careful that they are using the correct website their favorite retailers and not a scam look-alike site.

U.S. 45 Ohio River “Brookport” Bridge to Close for Maintenance Wednesday, Dec. 1

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to temporarily close the U.S. 45 Ohio River “Brookport” Bridge between Paducah, KY, and Brookport, IL, on Wednesday, December 1. The bridge will close promptly at 7 a.m. and remain closed until approximately 2 p.m., on Wednesday.

This temporary closure of the U.S. 45 Ohio River “Brookport” Bridge is to allow repairs to the grated metal decking.  The KYTC District 1 Bridge Crew will also work on guardrail and other maintenance items.  KYTC engineers plan to run maintenance checks on the navigation lighting and work up plans for future enhancements to the lighting control system.

FedEx Holiday Package Delivery Dates AnnouncedFedEx is encouraging shoppers to get their Christmas packages shipped as soon as possible.  The shipping giant says if you’re sending Christmas packages by FedEx Ground they need to be shipped by December 15th and the 15th for FedEx Home Delivery as well.  Packages going via two day delivery must be sent by December 22nd.  For overnight services the deadline is December 23rd and the FedEx Same Day shipping deadline is December 24th.

KY Lawmaker Looking To Cut Down On Porch PiratesA Kentucky lawmaker is looking to crack down on porch pirates.  Democratic state Senator David Yates has prefiled a bill that would include private carrier packages under the “theft of mail matter” law.  Currently, only mail delivered by the U.S. Postal Service is under this law.  If passed, package theft would go from a misdemeanor to a felony.  This means porch pirates could face years of jail time for any theft.

Kentucky National Guard Soldiers Deployed To Africa

(Lexington, KY)  —  Kentucky National Guard soldiers are being deployed overseas.  About 150 soldiers from 149th Infantry Regiment left for the Horn of Africa over the weekend.  It’s the first time in a decade soldiers from a Somerset-based battalion of the Kentucky National Guard have deployed to support operations.  They’ll be under the command of the Virginia National Guard’s Task Force Red Dragon.

Eminence Police Involved In Officer-Involved Shooting

(Oldham Co., KY)  —  Kentucky State Police say a man is in the Oldham County Jail following an officer-involved shooting in Eminence.  Eminence police say a man suspected of domestic violence fired 12 rounds into a police vehicle on Thanksgiving night.  The officer wasn’t hit and was able to return fire before the alleged shooter was arrested.  No one was wounded.

United Way Of The Ohio Valley Partners Raising Money For Nonprofits

(Owensboro, KY)  —  The United Way of the Ohio Valley is raising money for 70 nonprofit organizations within its six-county region for Giving Tuesday.  The agencies can raise funds online, through crowdfunding/peer-to-peer, and via text-to-give.  Anyone who texts “JOIN2021” to 7-1-7-7-7 can donate to any of the 70 partner organizations.  The United Way of the Ohio Valley serves Daviess, Hancolck, McLean, Ohio, Union, and Webster counties.

 

Lexington Rabbi Looking For A Brighter Hannukah Celebration This Year

(Lexington, KY)  —  Lexington Rabbi Schlomo Litvin is hoping for a brighter Hannukah season this year.  The celebration got underway last night with the lighting of the first light on the menorah.  Hannukah festivities in 2020 on the UK campus were interrupted by hate crimes and there were a series of anti-Semitic crimes across the country over the last year.  Rabbi Litvin says creating light at Chabad of the Bluegrass will encourage people to spread light across the commonwealth to overcome hate.  Governor Andy Beshear, Mayor Linda Gorton, and the survivor from last year’s attack will attend lightings on different days at various locations.

Noted Kentucky Business Man John Hall Dies

(Lexington, KY)  —  Noted Kentucky businessman John Hall is dead.  Hall died Thursday in Lexington of natural causes at age 88.  He was a retired chairman and CEO of Ashland Oil and was well-respected in the petroleum refining industry and financial markets.  He was also active in supporting education and the Lexington Public Library.  Funeral arrangements are pending.

Scott County Magistrate Dies

(Georgetown, KY)  —  Scott County magistrate Bill Burke has died.  Burke died on Saturday, though a cause of death hasn’t been made public.  He was serving his second term as magistrate for the Sixth District and was a retired Army Command Sergeant Major after 26 years of service.  Funeral arrangements have not been announced.

No Word On Injuries At Greenville House Fire

(Greenville, KY)  —  No word yet on whether there were any injuries at the scene of a Greenville house fire.  The blaze broke out yesterday evening at a home on the 23-hundred block of State Road 181 North.  Multiple agencies have responded to the fire.  The cause is being investigated.

KWC Singers, Brass Returning With In-Person Lessons And Carols

(Owensboro, KY)  —  An in-person holiday musical event is returning to Kentucky Wesleyan College.  The Kentucky Wesleyan Singers and Brass Choir will be presenting its Festival of Lessons and Carols December 2nd and 3rd at St. Stephen Cathedral.  Last year’s event was held virtually because of the pandemic.  This will be the eleventh annual performance of the program.

 

Jefferson Co., Health Officials Concerned About New COVID-19 Strain

(Louisville, KY)  —  Jefferson County health officials are making another push to get people vaccinated against COVID-19.  The latest push is being urged due to a new strain of the virus.  Multiple cases of the omicron strain have been found in Canada.  UofL health officials say getting vaccinated is the best defense against COVID-19.

LMPD Officers & Sergeants Agree To Contract

(Louisville, KY)  —  LMPD officers and sergeants are formally agreeing to the most recent contract proposal from the Metro government.  They ratified the contract proposal yesterday.  The River City Fraternal Order of Police says it thinks the agreement can help recruit and retain officers.  A contract for lieutenants and captains was approved by Metro Council earlier this month.

Tennessee Airports Set For Final Day Of Thanksgiving Travel Period

(Nashville, TN)  —  Airports across Tennessee are prepared for the last day of the Thanksgiving travel period today.  Nashville International Airport officials went into the travel period expecting as much as an 80-percent surge compared to the same time last year.  Triple-A says over one-million-200 thousand Tennesseans were expected to travel over the holiday.

Gatlinburg Marks Deadly Wildfires Anniversary

(Gatlinburg, TN)  —  Gatlinburg is marking another anniversary of the deadly wildfires.  Yesterday was the fifth anniversary of the fires that burned over 17-thousand acres.  More than 14-thousand people were evacuated in Gatlinburg in November of 2016.  However, not everyone got out safely as 14 people died and over 24-hundred buildings were destroyed.

Knoxville Lights Christmas Tree

(Knoxville, TN)  —  It’s the Christmas season in Knoxville.  The city lit its 42-foot tall tree during the Regal Celebration of Lights on Friday evening.  The celebration included an appearance by Santa Claus.  The tree will be aglow in Market Square until January 2nd.

 

Southwest Tennessee CC To Go Fully Virtual After Thanksgiving

(Memphis, TN)  —  Southwest Tennessee Community College is going fully virtual.  STCC says all classes and operations will be held online today through Wednesday.  Officials say they’re taking the step to prevent the spread of COVID-19 following the Thanksgiving holiday.  The school says it made the decision after being advised by the Shelby County Health Department.


Memphis Lights Christmas Tree

(Memphis, TN)  —  The Christmas season is underway in Memphis.  It kicked off with the Downtown Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday night.  The tree is glowing at the corner of Peabody Place and South Main Street.  About 200 kids also got to meet Santa Claus.

 

Charge Against Lebanon Woman Accused Of Assaulting Flight Attendants Dismissed

(Nashville, TN)  —  A charge is being dismissed against a Lebanon woman who was accused of assaulting two flight attendants.  Amanda Henry was restrained by a passenger with plastic flex cuffs after allegedly punching one flight attendant and pulling another’s hair on a Spirit Airlines flight to Nashville from Fort Lauderdale, Florida Saturday night.  A Nashville Airport Authority officer says there was a strong smell of alcohol on Henry.  A charge of public intoxication was dismissed yesterday.

>>Fire Station Vandalized On Thanksgiving

(White House, TN)  —  A Robertson County fire department is cleaning up from vandalism.  The White House Community Volunteer Fire Department was vandalized on Thanksgiving night.  Firefighters were out responding to a CPR and fire call when the crime happened.  The suspected vandal was in a maroon-colored Chevrolet Suburban.
