Murray beats Illinois State in Hoops

Tevin Brown scored 19 points and Juice Hill tied a career high with 17 as Murray State held off Illinois State 77-65 last night at Redbird Arena. The Racers led by 16 at the half and by 18 early in the second half before the Redbirds rallied to cut the lead to six twice, but could get no closer. Next up for the 3-0 Racers is the Naples Invitational next week in Florida with three games from next Monday through Wednesday. Blues Fall To Coyotes

(St. Louis, MO) —  The Blues’ struggles continue following a 3-2 loss to the Coyotes at Enterprise Center.  Torey Krug and Jordan Kyrou scored for St. Louis, which lost it fourth straight.  Jordan Binnington made 20 saves in the defeat.  The Blues host the Sharks tomorrow night. 

Preds Shut Out By Toronto

(Toronto, ON)  —  The Predators did not have any success up north.  Nashville lost to the Maple Leafs 3-0 in Toronto.  Juuse Saros played well in net with 31 saves and two goals allowed.  The Predators were originally scheduled to play the Senators in Ottawa tomorrow night, but that game has been postponed because the Senators are having some COVID-19 issues.  Nashville closes out its road trip on Saturday against the Montreal Canadiens.

Shildt Finishes Third In MOY Voting

(St. Louis, MO) —  Former Cardinals manager Mike Shildt isn’t brining home any hardware after finishing third in National League Manager of the Year voting.  The award went to Gabe Kapler of the Giants.  Shildt was named a finalist for the honor after leading the Cards to a franchise-record 17-game win streak en route to their third postseason appearance in four years.  He was dismissed after the Wild Card game exit due to “philosophical differences” with the front office.

Grizzlies Host Clippers Tomorrow Night

(Memphis, TN)  —  The Grizzlies have a tough test in their next game.  Memphis hosts the Los Angeles Clippers tomorrow night.  The Grizzlies are 7-and-7 entering the matchup.  Also of note, the Grizzlies sent Jarrett Culver, Sam Merrill, Santi Aldama and Killian Tillie to the Memphis Hustle.

National Headlines

US Men’s National Team Draws Jamaica

(Kingston, Jamaica)  —  The US Men’s National Team wasn’t able to beat Jamaica but still came away with a point.  The United States drew Jamaica 1-1 in Kingston on Tuesday.  Timothy Weah scored in the 11th minute for the US, but Jamaica’s Michail Antonio evened the score in the 22nd minute.  With the draw, the United States is second in the CONCACAF World Cup Qualifiers standings with 15 points.  Canada leads the CONCACAF standings with 16 points after it beat Mexico 2-1.

Georgia, Alabama Remain Atop College Football Playoff Rankings

(Undated)  —  The latest College Football Playoff rankings are out.  The top four remains unchanged this week.  Georgia is atop the rankings at number one while Alabama is second.  Oregon is third and Ohio State is fourth.  On the outside looking in is Cincinnati at fifth, Michigan is sixth, and Michigan State at seventh.

Kapler, Cash Win Manager Of The Year Awards

(Undated)  —  The MLB’s brightest minds in the dugout are being rewarded.  The NL and AL Manager of the Year Awards have been announced.  Giants skipper Gabe Kapler won the NL Manager of the Year Award after leading his club to an impressive 107 wins.  Rays manager Kevin Cash won for the second straight year after guiding his team back to the playoffs and to 100 wins.

Zion Williamson Cleared To Return To Practice

(Metairie, LA)  —  It looks like Zion Williamson is close to making his return to the court.  The Pelicans announced Tuesday that Williamson has been cleared to participate in contact drills and 1-on-1 workouts.  Williamson has been out of every game this season with a right foot fracture that happened to him in the summer.  New Orleans also announced that Williamson will undergo more medical imaging on November 24th, and that will determine if he’s ready to be cleared for full team workouts.

Report: Angels Sign Syndergaard To One-Year Deal

(Undated)  —  The Angels are adding a serious arm to their rotation for next season.  ESPN reports Los Angeles is signing Noah Syndergaard to a one-year, 21-million dollar deal.  The right-hander has largely been out of commission over the last two seasons after having Tommy John Surgery in March of 2020.  Syndergaard had spent all seven seasons of his pro career with the Mets, putting together an impressive 47-and-31 record with a 3.32 earned run average.

Report: Red Sox Owners Nearing Deal To Buy Penguins

(Undated)  —  The owners of the Boston Red Sox are closing in a deal to purchase the Pittsburgh Penguins.  ESPN reports the Fenway Sports Group, which is headed by billionaire John Henry, are in advanced talks to add the NHL team to their portfolio.  The board for Fenway Sports Group needs to approve the deal, with it then falling into the hands of the NHL.

Blue Jays Extend Berrios

(Toronto, Ontario)  —  Jose Berrios will be in a Blue Jays uniforms for most of the decade.  The two-time All Star starting pitcher signed a seven-year extension worth 131-million dollars with Toronto on Tuesday.  The Blue Jays acquired Berrios from the Twins at the trade deadline in July, and he went 5-and-4 with a 3.58 E-R-A in 70-and-a-third innings down the stretch for Toronto.  Berrios was set to be a free agent at the end of the 2022 season.

Ravens Release RB Bell

(Owings Mills, MD)  —  The short-lived Le’Veon Bell era is over in Baltimore.  The Ravens announced they’ve released the former Pro Bowl running back after he played in five games with Baltimore, rushing for 83 yards and two touchdowns.  Bell was signed to the practice squad in September following season-ending injuries to Baltimore’s top three running backs in the preseason.  He confirmed his release on Twitter, thanking GM Eric DeCosta and coach John Harbaugh for the chance to be a Raven.

Two Duke Basketball Players Arrested For DWI

(Durham, NC)  —  Two Duke University basketball players face D-W-I charges.  Court records show Michael Savarino, Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski’s [[ shuh-chef-ski’s ]] grandson, was arrested for D-W-I while Paolo Banchero is charged with aiding and abetting D-W-I.  Police say they pulled a vehicle over driven by Savarino on Sunday because he ran a stop sign.
