Kentucky 5th For Overall Obesity, First In High School Obesity

 A new report shows Kentucky has the fifth-highest overall obesity rate in the nation.  The study also indicates that Kentucky has the country’s highest rate of high school obesity.  Southern and Eastern Kentucky show the highest overall obesity rates in the commonwealth.  Chair for the Obesity Task Force at the Kentucky Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics says it is cheaper and easier for people to eat fast food than to go to the grocery store for meal ingredients to cook, especially in low-income areas.

Tennessee Authorities Issue Amber Alert For Missing Kentucky Child

Tennessee authorities are actively searching for a Kentucky boy who has been missing from the state for ten days.  Authorities believe three-year-old Noah Clare is traveling with his 35-year-old father Jacob Clare from Tennessee, and Jacob’s 16-year-old niece Amber Clare.  The vehicle authorities believe they were traveling in has been found in California, but they are believed to be headed to or already in northern Michigan.  Jacob Clare is wanted in both Kentucky and Tennessee on kidnapping and custodial interference charges.


Over 18-Hundred New COVID-19 Cases Reported In Kentucky

Over 18-hundred new COVID-19 cases are being reported in Kentucky.  Governor Andy Beshear announced the new cases yesterday, along with 38 additional deaths.  More than 730 people in the commonwealth are hospitalized for COVID-19 related illnesses, with 115 on ventilators.  Over 764-thousand Kentuckians have tested positive for the virus and more than ten-thousand-three-hundred have died since the pandemic began.

Hemp Window Open for Licensing

The window to apply for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s 2022 hemp licensing program is now open, Agriculture Commissioner Dr. Ryan Quarles has announced.

The Kentucky Department of Agriculture (KDA), which administers Kentucky’s hemp licensing program, is hosting an online application portal on its hemp webpage, kyagr.com/hemp. Grower applications, including renewals, must be submitted by March 15, 2022. New processor/handler applications may be submitted year-round. Annual processor/handler license renewals must be submitted by Dec. 31.

Milk Bank Partnering with MCCH

MURRAY, KY – Murray-Calloway County Hospital (MCCH) and The Milk Bank (TMB) have announce that MCCH will be an official Milk Depot site.

A Milk Depot is a site where approved donor mothers can drop off frozen, surplus breast milk. The milk is transported to The Milk Bank in Indianapolis to be pasteurized and distributed to NICUs and outpatient families throughout the Midwest. Ideal candidates for milk donors are non-smoking women in good general health who take limited to no medications or herbal supplements. Vehicle Collision with injury

On 11/13/2021 8:20 PM, the Murray Police Department responded to an injury collision on the parking lot of Little Caesars Pizza.  Upon arrival, officers spoke with Steven Moreno, (44) of Murray, Ky., he stated he was driving in the parking lot and the front bumper of his car struck a concrete light pole.  Cameron Morena, 42, of Murray Ky, passenger in the front seat, was complaining of injury and was transported, by EMS,  to the Murray Calloway County Hospital. Steven Moreno, driver, was placed under arrest of DUI.   The Murray Police Department was assisted on scene by the Murray Calloway County Ambulance Service.

Papa Johns Reveals New Logo, Restaurant Design & Slight Name Change

(Louisville, KY)  —  Kentucky-based Papa Johns is unveiling a new logo, restaurant design and a slightly different name.  The pizza chain revealed the new logo yesterday.  Absent from the logo is the apostrophe, removing the possessive from Papa Johns.  It’s another step in the company’s attempt to distance itself from founder John Schnatter.

Schools In Owensboro Offering Vaccination Clinics For Kids

(Owensboro, KY)  —  School systems in Owensboro will hold free COVID-19 vaccination clinics for kids between the ages of five-to-eleven this week.  Daviess County Public Schools is hosting a clinic on Friday.  Owensboro Public and Catholic school systems will hold a joint clinic on Saturday.  School officials say they hope getting more students vaccinated will allow for a quicker return to a normal school atmosphere.

GRDHD Updates COVID Numbers

(Owensboro, KY)  —  The Green River District Health Department is updating its COVID-19 numbers.  Yesterday, the GRDHD reported 238 new confirmed cases with 149 in Daviess County, 28 in Henderson County, 16 in Ohio County, 13 each in McLean and Webster counties, 12 in Hancock County and seven in Union County.  There have been nearly 37-thousand-800 cases in the seven-county districts since the outbreak began.  There have been over 600 COVID-related deaths since the start of the outbreak.

Bourbon County School Switch To NTI Temporarily After COVID Increase

(Bourbon County, KY)  —  Bourbon County Schools are switching to non-traditional instruction temporarily, citing an increase in COVID numbers.  Superintendent Amy Baker says a rapid increase in the number of cases and quarantined students and staff led to a decision to go with non-traditional instruction for five days.  The district is moving forward with a vaccination clinic tomorrow.  Custodial staff will be deep cleaning the schools while they’re closed.

Brescia University Baseball Player Dies In Crash

(Owensboro, KY)  —  The community of Owensboro is mourning the death of 19-year-old Jacob Crabtree.  The Brescia University sophomore died in a crash Friday.  Crabree was a baseball player at the university and was studying to be a physical therapist.  His parents have set up a scholarship fund at Daviess County Teachers Federal Credit Union.

OPS, OCS Hosting Pediatric COVID Vaccination Clinic

(Owensboro, KY)  —  Owensboro Public Schools and Owensboro Catholic Schools are hosting a COVID vaccination clinic.  The drive-thru clinic will take place Saturday in the parking lot of the Owensboro Innovation Campus.  The clinic is being held so children aged five through eleven can get the Pfizer vaccine.  Registration must be completed ahead of time online for Saturday’s dose and the second dose to be given December 11th.

Herman Minton Bridge Eastbound Lanes To Close Next Month

(Louisville, KY)  —  The lanes headed east on the Sherman Minton Bridge will close for up to nine days next month.  Eastbound I-64 is expected to close at 3 o’clock in the morning on Tuesday, December 14th and reopen at 3 on the morning of Thursday, December 23rd.  Sherman Minton Renewal officials say it’s possible the closure could be shorter, but it will not go past the 23rd of December.  The I-64 eastbound entrance ramp from West Spring Street will be closed, as well as the I-64 eastbound to I-264 eastbound ramp.

Gun Found In Student’s Backpack At Moore HS

(Louisville, KY)  —  A student at Moore High School is facing district disciplinary action after a gun was found in their backpack.  JCPS security was called to investigate after the gun was found yesterday morning.  Moore High officials say the gun wasn’t used in a threatening way.  At least seven guns have been found on JCPS students since the start of this school year.

Hundreds Of LouCity Fans Planning To Attend Conference Final Match

(Undated)  —  More than 300 Louisville City FC season-ticket members are planning to attend the team’s Eastern Conference Final match.  The team says it’s ordered buses to take fans to Tampa Bay for Saturday night’s match against the Rowdies.  The game is set for 7:30.

Lock Of Secretariat’s Hair Up For Auction

(Undated)  —  An ongoing sports memorabilia auction includes a lock of hair from Triple Crown winner Secretariat.  It’s part of the Lelands 2021 Fall Classic Auction.  The lock of hair was given to a woman by Secretariat’s groomer when she visited the horse in its stall at Churchill Downs in the late 1980s.  Bidding on the lock of hair starts at 25-hundred dollars.

TDH Updates State Coronavirus Cases

(Nashville, TN)  —  There are nearly 13-hundred new coronavirus cases in Tennessee.  The Tennessee Department of Health reported the new cases yesterday, bringing the total since the outbreak began to over one-million-298-thousand.  Nearly 60 additional COVID-19-related deaths were also reported, with the total number standing at nearly 17-thousand.  There are over 670 COVID-19 hospitalizations in Tennessee.

UT Reinstates Mask Mandate After Dropping It On Monday

(Knoxville, TN)  —  UT is reinstating its mask requirement less than a day after the UT system lifted the mandate.  The mask requirement will be reinstituted at most UT buildings on Monday to comply with a federal executive order for government contractors.  UT ended the requirement on Monday after Governor Bill Lee signed a new law preventing state entities from having mask or vaccine mandates unless exempted from the law by the state comptroller when federal funding is a risk.  UT is a federal contractor, receiving federal funding and grants.

5-Month Mark Passes Since Disappearance Of Summer Wells

(Rogersville, TN)  —  The AMBER Alert for a missing East Tennessee girl remains active, more than five months after she disappeared.  Summer Wells was reported missing from outside her Rogersville home in Hawkins County on June 15th.  The reward for finding the five-year-old or information leading to finding Summer is now more than 58-thousand dollars.  Donations to the Summer Wells reward fund can be made at any Civis Bank location.

Budweiser Clydesdales To Lead Gatlinburg’s Fantasy Of Lights Christmas Parade

(Gatlinburg, TN)  —  Gatlinburg’s Fantasy of Lights Christmas Parade will be led by some of the nation’s most recognizable horses.  The Budweiser Clydesdale team will lead the parade that’s set for the evening of Friday, December 3rd.  The team includes eight horses pulling a red, white and gold beer wagon with two traditionally-dressed drivers and a dalmatian coach dog.  Country music star Canaan Smith will also be part of the parade.

Metro Council Delays Voting On Ending Emission Testing Until Next Year

(Nashville, TN)  —  Metro Council says they will vote on a proposal to end vehicle emissions testing next year.  Officials announced yesterday that the resolution needs to be examined closer by Metro Health before Council can vote on it.  Council Member Kevin Rhoten introduced the legislation earlier this month, saying the EPA has given Davidson and its surrounding counties the green light to end testing.  Five counties, including Hamilton, Rutherford, Sumner, Williamson, and Wilson, already plan to end vehicle emissions testing in January.

Researchers At Vanderbilt Working With NASA To Develop Flying Taxi Cabs

(Nashville, TN)  —  Researchers at Vanderbilt University say they are working with NASA engineers on developing airborne taxi cabs.  Vanderbilt computer science professor Gautam Biswas said yesterday they hope to create vehicles called octocopters that take off and land vertically and can move six to eight people.  Vanderbilt is one of several universities involved in the two-point-five-million-dollar project.  Biswas says they could have prototypes ready for testing in the next five-years.

One Person Safe After House Fire In Murfreesboro On Tuesday Night

(Murfreesboro, TN)  —  One person is safe after escaping from a house fire on Tuesday night in Murfreesboro.  According to reports, crews responded to a fire around 6:30 p.m. at a home on Sunset Avenue.  Firefighters were able to contain the fire and confirmed one person inside the home was able to get out without injuries.  The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Longtime Robertson County 911 Dispatcher Passes Away

(Springfield, TN)  —  The Robertson County community is mourning the loss of a longtime civil servant and 911 dispatcher.  Officials said yesterday that 911 Supervisor Brittney Bennett, who had been with the county since 2011, had passed away.  Her coworkers called her the heart of the dispatch center, whose loss will be felt forever.  A celebration of life will be held for Bennett on November 20th at the Calvary Baptist Church in Greenbriar.  


Complaint Over Officers’ Response In Whiskey Row Homicide Case Unfounded

(Nashville, TN)  —  MNPD says a complaint filed over the response of officers during a deadly fight at a Broadway honky tonk is unfounded.  Management at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row claim when its security asked for assistance from officers standing outside the bar the officers wouldn’t assist them and security was told to call 911, which delayed assistance.  However, a report by MNPD’s Office of Professional Accountability says Metro police acted “quickly and professionally.”  The report says officers arrived on the rooftop and began chest compressions on an unresponsive man being held down by security within three minutes of being notified.

Mid-State Special Ed Teacher Charged With Assaulting Student

(Franklin Co., TN)  —  A Mid-State elementary school teacher is being charged with assaulting a student in a special education class.  Matthew Fesmire is a special education teacher at Clark Memorial Elementary School.  The alleged assault happened in late October and was caught on video.  Fesmire is expected in court on December 6th.

CPD Looking For Runaway Teenage Girl

(Clarksville, TN)  —  Clarksville police are asking for help finding a 14-year-old runaway girl.  The mother of Lanycia Byers reported her as a runaway on Monday.  Lanycia was last seen around 10 o’clock the night before wearing a white hoodie and white pants.  She may be in the Exit Four area with a white male named Devin who’s in his late teens or early 20s.

New Non-Stop Flights Added To California, Florida

(Nashville, TN)  —  Allegiant Air is adding non-stop flights from Nashville to California and Florida.  Non-stop flights between Palm Springs, California and Nashville start today.  Flights between Nashville and Melbourne and Jacksonville, Florida will begin tomorrow.  The flights will operate twice a week.

White House Officials Discuss Mental Health Crisis In Memphis

(Memphis, TN)  —  The nation is dealing with a mental health crisis brought on by the outbreak of COVID-19.  A group of White House officials was in Memphis yesterday to learn how COVID has impacted the mental health of Memphians.  Memphis has seen an increase in violent crime, overdoses and heart attacks since the start of the outbreak.  Mayor Jim Strickland said “recurring dollars” are needed to help fight the effects of the ongoing crisis.

SCHD Updates COVID-19 Numbers

(Memphis, TN)  —  The Shelby County Health Department is updating its COVID-19 numbers.  SCHD reported over 70 new cases yesterday, bringing the total to more than 147-thousand-550 since the outbreak began.  Health department officials say there have been nearly 23-hundred COVID-19-related deaths since the start of the outbreak.  There are over eleven-hundred active cases in Shelby County.

UofM Employees Required To Get Vaccinated Against COVID

(Memphis, TN)  —  The University of Memphis is mandating that employees be vaccinated against COVID-19.  An email was sent to the school’s 24-hundred staff and full-time faculty members yesterday informing them they must be vaccinated by January 4th.  UofM was initially part of President Biden’s executive order in September mandating vaccines for federal workers before the Tennessee legislature passed a bill banning vaccine mandates last month.  Now, the school has been granted an exemption by the state comptroller’s office since the university receives federal funding.

Volunteers Still Needed For St. Jude Memphis Marathon

(Memphis, TN)  —  Organizers of the St. Jude Memphis Marathon Weekend are making a final push for volunteers.  They say anyone who wants to help with the race weekend must be registered before Thanksgiving.  The money raised from the event benefits thousands of children.  Race day is Saturday, December 4th.

FDA Expected To Authorize Pfizer Booster For All Adults

(Silver Spring, MD)  —  The FDA is expected to authorize the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 booster shot for all adults in the next few days.  The decision could come as soon as Thursday.  Pfizer’s booster shot is currently authorized for adults ages 65 and older, and anyone at high risk of catching the virus because of their job or an underlying medical condition.

WI Gov Urges Calm Amid Kyle Rittenhouse Deliberations

(Kenosha, WI)  —  The governor of Wisconsin is urging everyone to stay calm as the state waits for a verdict in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial.  The jury will begin a second day of deliberations this morning.  Governor Tony Evers [[ Eve-rs ]] tweeted on Tuesday his state has worked hard to heal and rebuild from last year’s protests over a police shooting.  It was during those protests that Rittenhouse shot three people, killing two.  The 18-year-old claims it was self defense, but prosecutors argue he provoked the violence.

Prosecution Rests In Ahmaud Arbery Murder Trial

(Brunswick, GA)  —  The prosecution has rested its case against three men accused of killing Ahmaud Arbery in Georgia.  The state called 23 witnesses in eight days of testimony.  Gregory McMichael, his son Travis McMichael and William “Roddie” Bryan Junior are accused of shooting the 25-year-old Arbery while he was out for a jog.  The defense contends Travis McMichael shot the Black man in self-defense after they wrestled over his shotgun while the three tried to make a citizen’s arrest of Arbery.

Gulf Of Mexico Oil Drilling Rights To Be Auctioned

(Washington, DC)  —  The oil drilling rights to 80-million acres in the Gulf of Mexico will be auctioned off today.  The sale by the Department of Interior will be the first of the Biden administration.  The President had promised to end development on federal properties, but oil-producing states sued to reinstate the sale.  A lawsuit by environmental groups seeking to halt the auction is pending.  Almost all available unleased Gulf of Mexico blocks will be sold to the highest bidder today in a live-streamed event.

TikTok Settlement Notification Is Legit

(Culver City, CA)  —  Notifications of a 92-million dollar TikTok settlement are not a scam.  Users received notifications Monday about submitting a claim for compensation.  TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, agreed in February to pay 92-million to settle allegations it harvested users’ personal data without their consent.  People in the U.S. who used TikTok before October 1st can submit claims for one share of the settlement.  If everyone who’s eligible submits a claim, most will only get about 96 cents.  TikTok users can submit claims at the TikTok data privacy settlement website by March 1st.

Packers Sell 10M In Stock In Three Hours

(Green Bay, WI)  —  The Green Bay Packers say they sold ten-million dollars in stock in just three hours.  The NFL team held a stock sale Tuesday and reportedly sold over 33-thousand shares in the first three hours.  The Packers are selling up to 90 million-dollars worth of shares at 300 dollars-a-piece to raise money for stadium renovations.

Longest Lunar Eclipse In Nearly 600 Years Is This Friday

(Undated)  —  The longest lunar eclipse in nearly 600 years takes place this week.  NASA says a near-total lunar eclipse will be visible across North America early Friday, leaving nearly 97-percent of the full Moon in a dark shadow with only a sliver of light on its left side.  The eclipse will last for about three-and-a-half hours, peaking at about 4 a.m. Eastern Friday morning.  Astronomers say it’s the longest partial lunar eclipse in about 580 years.
