
Sen. Paul To File An Education Tax Deduction Plan
(Louisville, KY) — Senator Rand Paul says he’s going to file a bill to help ease the burden of the cost of education. Paul calls his bill the Tax Free Education Act. It is designed to allow student loans and other education expenses to be 100-percent tax deductible. Paul’s plan would apply to the cost of colleges, technical schools and K thru 12 education.
Murray Head Start Students Busy with STEAM Kits
Murray, Ky., Oct. 21——-Murray Head Start students are keeping busy with their STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) kits they received this fall, as part of the Gro More Good Gardens grant.
Last spring, Murray Head Start was one of 18 nationwide programs, and the only Kentucky program chosen, as a recipient of the “Gro More Good Gardens” Grant in partnership with the National Head Start Association (NHSA) and the Scotts Miracle Gro Foundation. These grant funds are being utilized to launch a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) gardening projects for every enrolled Early Head Start and Preschool/Head Start child.
Whitney Pile, Murray Head Start Health Services Coordinator, said Murray Head Start is very excited to be selected as a 2021 recipient. “What an honor,” she said. “With additional funding, we can truly enhance the resources included in this fall’s STEAM container garden to enrolled Early Head Start and Preschool/Head Start children and families.”
The STEAM kits include herb container garden kits, related parent/child activities, and some ingredients that can be used for a meal that will include herbs (from their container gardens). In addition, a website was introduced to families in these kits, which includes informational videos about germination, local Farmers Markets, nutrition and gardening resources available at the public Library, and a cooking lesson. Murray Head Start’s management staff is also included on the website, delivering content in the component areas of Education/School Readiness, Nutrition, and Family Engagement.
Calloway County Health Department Announces 8 New Cases of COVID19
As of 10/21/21, the Calloway County Health Department has received notification of 8 new cases of COVID19. The case count is now at 5,463 with 5,350 recovered, 46 isolated at home, 6 hospitalized, and 61 deaths. Here is a breakdown of the total cases by age category: 0 cases under age 18, 6 cases age 18 to 39, 2 cases age 40-60, and 0 cases over 60.
Kentucky Lawmakers File Bill Targeting ‘Abortion Pill’
(Frankfort, KY) — Kentucky lawmakers are filing a bill targeting the so-called ‘abortion pill.’ Bill Request 343 would require people to take abortion medication the in presence of a medical professional at a clinic and prohibit the online prescription of the drugs along with delivery to patient’s homes. The FDA authorized home-use of the abortion pill during the pandemic. Republican Representative Nancy Tate of Bradenburg introduced the bill.
Officer Who Fired Shot That Killed Breonna Taylor To Appeal Firing
(Louisville, KY) — The Louisville police detective who fired the shot that killed Breonna Taylor is scheduled to appeal his firing. Myles Cosgrove was fired in January for using suppressive fire during the deadly raid after Taylor’s boyfriend fired at officers. The Louisville Metro Police Department requires officers to have a definite target when returning fire. Cosgrove is scheduled to appear before the police merit board on November 9th and 10th and December 13th through the 15th.
Vigil And Mass Planned At UK Tonight For Lofton Hazelwood
(Lexington, KY) — A vigil and memorial Mass are scheduled this evening for University of Kentucky student Lofton Hazelwood. Hazelwood was found unresponsive Monday night at the FarmHouse fraternity and later died at the hospital from what appears to be an alcohol overdose. A prayer service is scheduled for 6:00 this evening at the UK Holy Spirit Parish Newman Center on Rose Lane. A mass will follow at 7:30 tonight.
UK Officials Make Changes Following Student’s Death
(Lexington, KY) — The death of Lofton Hazelwood on the UK campus is prompting changes. Officials this morning announced the suspension indefinitely of all activities for new members of fraternities. Hazelwood was an 18-year-old freshman who was not of legal drinking age in Kentucky but is believed to have died from an alcohol overdose. The University is also requiring training for all fraternities with a focus on hazing prevention.
UK Football Player Working With Lawmakers To Encourage Change
(Lexington, KY) — A University of Kentucky football player is working with lawmakers to make changes in the commonwealth. Wan’dale Robinson met with several legislators yesterday to discuss his story about growing up while his father Dale was incarcerated in federal prison. Dale is now a business owner and attended yesterday’s meeting, saying kids of incarcerated parents can go down the wrong path without proper mentoring, which their foundation hopes to provide. The pair suggested a bill of rights for the children of incarcerated parents and funding for their programs, with talks expected to continue.

Nursing Shortage Leads To Start Of Kentucky School‘s Accelerated Nursing Program
(Louisville, KY) — Kentucky’s Bellarmine University is moving up its accelerated nursing program to address a shortage in staffing. It is a one-year program allowing people who already have a bachelor’s degree in another field to earn a second degree in nursing. It starts in January and up-to 50-people can be in the class. GRDHD To Update COVID-19 Numbers
(Owensboro, KY) — The Green River District Health Department is expected to update its COVID-19 numbers today. On Tuesday, the GRDHD reported more than 230 additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 123 in Daviess County, 43 in Henderson County, 34 in Ohio County, 14 in McLean County, 13 in Webster County and seven in Hancock County. There have been over 36-thousand cases in the seven county district since the outbreak began. There have also been nearly 560 COVID-19-related deaths.
Kentucky Communities React To New Development Plans
(Frankfort, KY) — Two Kentucky communities are showing excitement about new economic development plans. Leaders from Elizabethtown and Hardin County joined Governor Andy Beshear at the Capitol yesterday to celebrate Ford’s decision last month to locate electric battery plants in their community. KCC companies president Joel Streeter also shared information about a new facility planned for Shelby County. Streeter says the Shelby County facility could create up to 700 new jobs with an average wage of 29-dollars per hour, including benefits.

(Owensboro, KY) — Daviess County Sheriff Keith Cain says he is retiring. Cain announced yesterday that he will be stepping down later this year. He has served the department for 24 years. Cain had previously announced that he would not be seeking re-election in 2022.
Fire Breaks Out At Owensboro Storage Facility
(Owensboro, KY) — No one is injured after an Owensboro storage facility caught fire. The fire broke out yesterday afternoon at Triple-A storage units located off West Fourth Street near Ewing Road. Firefighters say the blaze spread but was put out quickly. Investigators are working to determine the cause.
LMPD Participating In Tomorrow’s Prescription Drug Take Back Event
(Louisville, KY) — The Louisville Metro Police Department will participate in Prescription Drug Take Back day tomorrow. LMPD says it will have nearly 20 drop-off locations in place from 10 o’clock in the morning until 2 in the afternoon. Expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs can be dropped off no questions asked. Vaping pens can also be dropped off without batteries or cartridges but needles won’t be accepted.
Trick-Or-Treating Event To Be Held At Louisville Slugger Field
(Louisville, KY) — A unique Halloween event is set for tonight. The Louisville Bats will host their first-ever Trick-or-Treat at the Ballpark. It will be held from 6:30 until 10 o’clock. Trick-or-treating will be held on the concourse and there will also be a costume contest for kids and adults and a showing of the Halloween classic Hocus Pocus on Louisville Slugger Field’s video board. TBI Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting In Campbell Co.
(Campbell Co., TN) — The TBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting in East Tennessee. The Tennessee Highway Patrol says a trooper shot someone suspected of armed robbery late last evening. The shooting happened on I-75 in Campbell County. The alleged robber’s condition is not yet known, but the trooper was not injured.

(Nashville, TN) — There are nearly 16-hundred new coronavirus cases in Tennessee. The Tennessee Department of Health reported the new cases yesterday, bringing the total since the outbreak began to over one-million-270-thousand. Over 50 additional COVID-19-related deaths were also reported, with the total number standing at over 16-thousand. There are about 13-hundred COVID-19 hospitalizations in Tennessee.

(Blount Co., TN) — Gun manufacturer Smith and Wesson is participating in a Tennessee program meant to help large companies move here. As part of the Payment-in-lieu-of-Tax program, Smith and Wesson is expected to invest a certain amount of money in property, hire a certain number of people and stay in the area for a certain amount of time. The requirements include improving the Blount [[ Blunt ]] County land it leased through 2030. The gunmaker is also required to create 620 new jobs at an average wage of nearly 26-dollars an hour after moving to East Tennessee from its longtime home in Springfield, Massachusetts.
Without Freeze, Snakes Remain Active In Tennessee
(Undated) — Wildlife experts say there’s a drawback to the weather remaining unseasonably warm so far this fall. They say without a widespread freeze, snakes remain active, including venomous copperheads. The CDC says up to eight-thousand people are bitten by a venomous snake in the U.S. each year. However, only about five of those bites end up being deadly.
Deadline Set To Apply For FEMA Assistance Following Historic Flooding
(Waverly, TN) — Victims of historic flooding in the Mid-State are running out of time to apply for FEMA assistance. The federal assistance is available to folks in Dickson, Hickman, Houston, and Humphreys counties who were impacted by August’s flooding. More than 17 inches of rain fell on the area on August 21st, leading to the deaths of 20 people. The deadline to apply for assistance is Monday.
Man Accused Of High-Profile Murders Sentenced In Another Case
(Nashville, TN) — A man accused of the stabbing deaths of two men outside a Midtown Nashville bar is going to prison in another case. Michael Mosley was convicted last month of criminal attempt to commit aggravated assault for an attack on a woman in a Nashville Walmart. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the conviction. Mosley will go to trial next month for allegedly murdering Paul Trapeni [[ Truh-pee-nee ]] the Third and Clay Beathard in December of 2019.

Collierville PD Helps Train TCSO For Active Shooter Situation
(Tipton Co., TN) — The Collierville Police Department wants to help other law enforcement agencies learn from its experience with active shooters. CPD responded within minutes to last month’s deadly shooting at the Kroger on Byhalia Road. Collierville Police Chief Dale Lane, his staff and other law enforcement officials shared their knowledge with the Tipton County Sheriff’s Office yesterday. TCSO says it was the first of many trainings to help the department prepare for the possibility of such an event.
Red-Hot Market Causes Bluff City’s Rental Rates To Soar
(Memphis, TN) — The red-hot housing market in Memphis is causing rental prices to soar. The real estate website Realpage Incorporated reports since March of last year, the median cost of an apartment increased from 923-dollars to almost eleven-hundred-dollars a month. That’s more than a 17-percent increase and makes Memphis the 13th fastest rising rental market in the nation. Realtors say a lack of homes for sale is leading to the rising rental rates.
