SEMO SWEEPS RACER SOFTBALL
Southeast Missouri completed a three-game sweep of Murray State softball with a 3-2 win yesterday in Cape Girardeau. Hannah James recorded eight strikeouts on the day, but took the loss after surrendering three earned runs over five and two-thirds innings, with Logan Braundmeier was 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead the offense. The Racers are 19-29 overall and 16-15 in the OVC and will return to action on Saturday when they open a three-game series against Morehead State at Racer Field.

EAGLES DOWN RACER BASEBALL IN NON-CONFERENCE TILT
Morehead State outslugged Murray State 11-6 in the finale of a four game baseball series in Morehead. Yesterday’s game was a non-conference contest after the Eagles had taken two of the three OVC games on Friday and Saturday. Coming off a three-homer game on Saturday, Jake Slunder had three hits yesterday while Brock Anderson blasted his 13th homer and drove in four runs to lead the Racer offense. Jon Burghart had a homer and 4 RBI’s to pace the Eagles offense. The Racers are now 22-20 overall and will host Belmont at 5 pm tomorrow.

FOUST NAMED DWBO
Wyatt Foust has been named Murray State’s Director of Women’s Basketball Operations. Racer head coach Rachelle Turner called Foust a rising star in coaching and said will be a great mentor to the players. In two seasons at Murray High and the last two seasons at Louisville Butler, Foust compiled a 101-15 record for a winning percentage of 87.7. In two seasons at Murray, he led the Tigers to a 60-7 record, back-to-back KHSAA Sweet 16 appearances in 2018 and 2019 and the 2018 “All-A” state championship. Over his career, Foust has been named as the Kentucky Coach of the Year by USA Today and the Lexington Herald-Leader and is a two-time Region Coach of the Year.

The 8th-ranked Gamecocks finished 10-3 and with the loss concluded their football membership in the Ohio Valley Conference. Top-seeded South Dakota State rallied from a 13-point deficit and beat Southern Illinois 31-26. Nico Gualdoni made a 33-yard field goal to give Southern Illinois a 20-7 lead with 22 seconds left in the second quarter, but the Jackrabbits scored the next 24 points. SIX UK PLAYERS TAKING IN NFL DRAFT
Six Kentucky Wildcats are headed to the NFL after being chosen in the 2021 draft. The group tied for the fourth-most number chosen in school history and the most since 1979, which had eight. Inside linebacker Jamin Davis was drafted by Washington in the first round, and cornerback Kelvin Joseph was selected by Dallas in the second round. Four Wildcats followed in the final day of the draft. The Dallas Cowboys chose nose guard Quinton Bohanna at the 192nd overall pick in the sixth round, and defensive back Brandin Echols went as the 200th pick to the New York Jets. Offensive lineman Landon Young was drafted by the New Orleans Saints later in the sixth round as the 206th overall pick, and defensive tackle Phil Hoskins went in the seventh round to the Carolina Panthers as the 232nd overall pick.

TWO VOLS ARE TAKEN IN NFL DRAFT
Former UT receiver Josh Palmer and offensive lineman Trey Smith will get a chance to make a living playing football. They were both selected during the 2021 NFL draft over the weekend. Palmer was selected in the third round by the Los Angeles Chargers, while Smith was taken by the Kansas City Chiefs in the sixth round. It’s just the second year-in-a-row UT has had players selected in the draft. Former Tennessee cornerback Bryce Thompson has NFL team. The New Orleans Saints announced Sunday that they signed the Vols’ standout as an undrafted free agent. Thompson started 28 games during his time in Knoxville.

GRIZZLIES HOST KNICKS
