
College Basketball: Murray State opened its 98th basketball season last night and fell at Saint Louis 91-68. The Racers had three players in double figures led by Jamari Smith with 19 points. Rob Perry pitched in 14 with Kenny White, Jr. adding 10. Murray State plays its home opener against Lindsey Wilson Saturday night at 7 with pre game at 6:30 on Froggy 103.7.
In other Missouri Valley action: Toledo downed Valparaiso 85-70, Belmont edged Ohio 70-69, Indiana State topped Green Bay 80-53, UIC drubbed Trinity 82-48, Southern Illinois over Little Rock 94-63, Bradley drubbed Wisconsin-Parkside 93-59 and Northern Iowa crushed Wartburg 105-49.
Women’s games in the Valley: Indiana State edged St. Louis 64-62, Evansville topped Eastern Kentucky 89-81, Northern Iowa over St. Thomas 58-46, UIC eased by IUPUI 52-50, Drake downed Green Bay 80-67, Valpo defeated Central Michigan 71-64 and Missouri over Missouri State 68-51.
Elsewhere in college basketball: 4th ranked Kentucky crushed Howard 95-63, 11th ranked Tennessee drubbed Tennessee Tech 75-43 and Memphis downed Vanderbilt 75-67.
NBA: The Memphis Grizzlies three game winning streak was snapped by the Boston Celtics in a 109-106 defeat in Memphis. Ja Morant netted 30 points for the Grizzlies, who return to action tomorrow night at San Antonio.
