The rain in Western Kentucky was a welcome site Tuesday and it lead one county to lift its burn ban. McCracken County officials announced the measure, however statewide burning restrictions remain in place.
Western Kentucky farmers will be receiving aid from last December’s tornadoes and the recent drought conditions. WPSD reports US Senator Mitch McConnell said Tuesday the US Department of Agriculture will invest $20 million to build grain storage facilities for farmers affected. McConnell made the announcement while visiting with the Kentucky Farm Bureau in Mayfield.
A Lyon County man is jailed on charges of drug possession and possessing ammunition. West Kentucky Star.com reported Tuesday 33-year-old Taylor Glass was arrested following an investigation by the Kentucky Probation and Parole Office. Glass was on a supervised probation from Lyon Circuit Court. He was lodged in the Crittenden County jail.
A state amendment that will take effect next year will likely increase Murray and Calloway County’s revenue on transient taxes. The Kentucky League of Cities says House Bill 8 passed in this year’s legislative session “remedies a long-standing transient room tax collection gap that omitted online travel companies.”
The Murray Ledger and Times reports the Murray City Council will hear second reading of an ordinance to reflect the changes effective January 1st at its meeting Thursday. Calloway Deputy Judge Executive Gina Winchester says the county will not need to have a reading as its ordinance is in line with the revisions of the state statute.

HS Volleyball: 1st Region quarterfinal action continued last night at Marshall County High School with Mayfield blanking Carlisle County three sets to none and Community Christian doned host Marshall County 3-0
Tonight’s semifinal matches have McCracken County facing Graves County at 5:30 followed by Mayfield and Community Christian. The winners will meet in the title match tomorrow night.
HS Softball: Marshall County High School announced the hiring Tuesday of Shane Darnall as the new coach for the Lady Marshals.
College Basketball; The first college basketball coaches poll has been released and the North Carolina Tar Heels are atop the rankings. Carolina received 23 first place votes after finishing last season as the runner up in the NCAA Tournament. Gonzaga, Houston, Kentucky and the defending national champion Kansas Jayhawks round out the rest of the top five.
NFL: Fans are getting a better look at what the new Tennessee Titans’ stadium will look like. Renderings of the new one-point-seven-million-square-foot, 60-thousand capacity stadium were released by the team yesterday. City officials will review the proposal over the next several weeks.
NBA: A Brooklyn Nets’ star player is heaping praise on Ja Morant. Kevin Durant said Morant is the face of the league moving forward. The 12-time All-Star went on to say the Memphis Grizzlies guard is the most marketable guy in the league and so many kids are inspired by what he does.
