After six weeks of drought conditions, all of Western Kentucky is expected to see rain today. The National Weather Service in Paducah is forecasting about an inch and a half of rain for the region. Forecasters are also predicing rain chances for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

US 51 between Fulton and Clinton has re-opened following its closure due to a late night fire. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reports a garage fire had spread to a field and nearby tree line. The fire broke out around 11 pm near the Fulton-Hickman county line.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is beginning to make preparations for the winter. Motorists will see crews run truck, plows and salt distribution equipment through safety checks. Western Kentucky gets an average of around ten inches of snow during the winter. In most years, the snowfall comes in three to four events of about two to three inches each.

McCracken Fiscal Court approved yesterday a bond issue to pay for the county’s portion of the new terminal to be constructed at Barkley Regional Airport. West Kentucky Star.com reports the county will issue bonds of just over three million dollars for its obligation for the facility. The city of Paducah will pick up the tab for the other portion of the project.

A Kirksey man was arrested over the weekend following a pursuit in a stolen vehicle. The Calloway County Sheriff’s Department says 36-year-old Ryan Tweedy was arrested Saturday on numerous charges after a report of a stolen vehicle in the Tom Taylor Trail area.

SPORTS

HS Volleyball: 1st Region quarterfinal action began last night at Marshall County High School with McCracken County downing Fulton County three sets to none and Graves County defeated Christian Fellowship three sets to one.

Tonight’s quarterfinal games have Carlisle County meeting Mayfield at 5:30 with Marshall County hosting Community Christian in the nightcap. The semifinal matches will take place tomorrow night with the final on Thursday night.

HS Football: It’s the final week of the regular season for both Calloway County and Murray High. The Lakers close out regular season action hosting Union County with pregame at 6:30 on WBZB. Meanwhile the Tigers welcome Fulton County with pregame coverage at 6 on WNBS.

College Basketball: It’s hard to believe, but Murray State’s men’s and women’s teams both have preseason games next week. One week from tonight at the CFSB Center, the women will face Bethel and one week from tomorrow night the men will entertain Brescia.

Kentucky’s Oscar Tshiebwe was named to the Associated Press pre season All American team Monday. Tshiebwe is the first AP National Player of the Year from the previous season to return for another season since Tyler Hansbrough did for North Carolina in 2009.

College Soccer: Game time is 6 pm Thursday for Murray State’s women’s team opening game in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament against Drake in Carbondale, IL. The two teams played on Sunday with Drake winning 3-0.

NBA: The Grizzlies put up 45 points in the third quarter to help beat the Brooklyn Nets 134-124 in Memphis. Ja Morant and Desmond Bane each scored 38 points and had seven assists in the win. The Grizzlies are now 3-and-1 on the season and will look to keep the momentum going on Thursday against the Sacramento Kings.
