
Tevin Brown Earns Back-to-Back OVC Player Of The Week Awards
Murray State’s Tevin Brown was named the Player of the Week for a second consecutive week after a vote by communications directors in the Ohio Valley Conference.
A junior from Fairhope, Alabama, Brown earned the OVC honor after a masterful performance in Murray State’s 87-76 win over Chattanooga on Saturday. Brown scored a career-high 33 points, hitting 11-of-22 field goals (including 7-of-14 3-pointers) and added nine rebounds, two steals, two assists and a block in 38 minutes. It marked the 17th time in his career he had hit five or more 3-pointers in a game and he moved his career made 3-pointers total to 288 (fourth in OVC history).
The Racers are on the road Wednesday for their final non-conference game when they take on the 12th ranked Auburn Tigers at Auburn Arena in Alabama. The game can be heard on Racer Radio on Froggy 103.7
The Murray State women’s basketball team closes out its 2021-22 non-conference schedule today as they travel to Gainesville to take on the Florida Gators airtime at 11:30 on WNBS.
UK To Host WKU Following Postponement Of Louisville Game
(Lexington, KY) — The UK basketball team will play tomorrow night after all. WKU will replace Louisville on the Wildcats’ schedule. The game against the Cardinals had to be postponed over COVID-19 issues within the UofL program. The game against the Hilltoppers is set for 6 o’clock at Rupp Arena.

Grizzlies Fall To Thunder In Morant’s Return
(Memphis, TN) — Ja Morant returned to game action after missing 12 games with a knee sprain, but Memphis couldn’t get the win. The Grizzlies lost to the Thunder 102-99 in Memphis. Morant had 16 points and eight assists in 28 minutes in his return to the court. Desmond Bane led the way for the Grizzlies with 25 points and Dillon Brooks chipped in with 19 points. Memphis is scheduled to play the Warriors on the road on Thursday.
Report: NHL To Shutdown All Games Through Christmas Day
(Undated) — The NHL is pausing its season after tonight through Christmas Day in response to the COVID-19 outbreaks throughout the league. Sportsnet reports that all games and practices will be shut down until Sunday when players will return to team facilities to get tested.

Vikings Stifle Bears On Monday Night Football
(Chicago, IL) — The Vikings are standing tall in primetime. Minnesota earned a 17-9 victory over the Bears on Monday Night Football in Chicago. Kirk Cousins threw two touchdowns and an interception in the win. Justin Jefferson and Ihmir Smith-Marsette scored for Minnesota, which improves to 7-and-7. Jesper Horsted caught a touchdown in the closing seconds for Chicago. David Montgomery had 60 rushing yards in the loss for the Bears, who drop to 4-and-10.
Carlson Lifts Raiders Over Browns
(Cleveland, OH) — Daniel Carlson is keeping the Raiders’ playoff hopes alive. The placekicker booted a game-winning 48-yard field goal to help Las Vegas beat the Browns 16-14 in Cleveland. Carlson finished a perfect 3-for-3 on his kicks in the victory. Derek Carr guided the Raiders’ offense with 236 passing yards, one touchdown and an interception. Nick Mullens started under center for a depleted Browns team and finished with 147 yards and a TD on 20-of-30 pass attempts. Cleveland fell to 7-and-7, while Las Vegas improved to 7-and-7.
Report: A’s Hiring Mark Kotsay As New Manager
(Oakland, CA) — The Athletics are hiring a familiar face to be their next skipper. ESPN reports Oakland has hired Mark Kotsay as its new manager. Kotsay was the team’s third-base coach last season and has worked with the franchise since 2016. He also spent part of his playing career in an A’s uniform as he played in the outfield for the team from 2004-to-2007. The 46-year-old Kotsay will replace Bob Melvin, who was hired by the Padres in November.
NBA, NBPA Agree To Allow Replacement Players
(New York, NY) — The NBA and its Players Association are agreeing to rules that allow additional replacement players for teams shorthanded due to recent COVID-19 outbreaks. ESPN reports the new rules went into effect Sunday and will stay in place until January 19th. A team will now be allowed to sign a replacement player for each positive COVID-19 case on its roster. All replacement players signed will not count toward a team’s yearly salary and won’t contribute to its potential luxury tax payment.
Steve Kerr Officially Named Team USA Head Coach
(San Francisco, CA) — Golden State Warriors Head Coach Steve Kerr is going to lead Team USA basketball for the next three years. Kerr will succeed Gregg Popovich as the Men’s National Team head coach through 2024. This will include the 2023 FIBA World Cup and the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Kerr’s assistant coaches include Erik Spoelstra of the Miami Heat, Monty Williams of the Phoenix Suns, and Gonzaga University’s Mark Few.
Giants QB Daniel Jones Shut Down For Season
(East Rutherford, NJ) — Daniel Jones’ season is coming to an early end. The Giants quarterback was placed on the injured reserve Monday as the team announced he would be shut down for the rest of the season. Jones suffered a neck injury in Week 12 and it will ultimately cost him six games of this season. The 24-year-old threw for 2,428 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions through 11 games. Giants head trainer Ronnie Barnes said in a statement that the team expects “a full recovery” as Jones will rest and treat the injury.
Chris Godwin Out For The Year With Torn ACL
(Tampa, FL) — The Buccaneers are losing one of their best wide receivers for the season. Tampa Bay wideout Chris Godwin tore his ACL in the Bucs’ loss to the Saints on Sunday night and will be out for the rest of the year. He went down in the second quarter and didn’t return to the game. The injury was originally thought to be an MCL injury, but further tests revealed a worse outcome. Godwin ends the season with 98 catches for 1,103 yards and five touchdowns.
Travis Kelce Placed On COVID-19 List
(Kansas City, MO) — The Chiefs could be without one of their best players in the near future. Kansas City placed Travis Kelce on the COVID-19 list Monday. ESPN is reporting that the Pro Bowl tight end is vaccinated, which means he’ll have the chance to play on Sunday against the Steelers. The Chiefs also placed kicker Harrison Butker and cornerback Charvarius Ward on the COVID list Monday.
Alabama Introduces New COVID Protocols Ahead Of Playoff
(Tuscaloosa, AL) — Alabama is taking no chances ahead of the College Football Playoff. The program is bringing back it’s health and safety protocols from last season amid the ongoing rise of coronavirus cases. Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban says the team is wearing masks indoors and socially distancing while inside the building. The head coach also noted that more than 90-percent of the team is vaccinated as well as having had booster shots.
