Murray Hoops Wins Two

KJ Williams scored 19 points and Trae Hannibal added 18 as Murray State put six players in double figures in a 118-48 rout of Tennessee Wesleyan last night at the CFSB Center. Nick McMullen added 12 points and 10 rebounds off the bench, which accounted for 77 of the Racers points on the night. The 9-1 Racers have won six straight games heading into Saturday night’s home tilt with Chattanooga. In the women’s game, Kaitlyn Young scored 17 points as Murray State defeated North Alabama 74-60. Hannah McKay helped the Racers improve to 7-2 by chipping in with 13 points. MSU continues the pre-Christmas homestand against Lipscomb at 5 pm Saturday.

Crosstown Classic Toy Drive

The Murray Bank is sponsoring a toy drive to help families in Graves County affected by the catastrophic tornado. Bring a new toy to the Crosstown Classic basketball game Friday at the CFSB Centerand you will get in free. Please bring all toys to Entrance B. This is the entrance that faces the back of Roy Stewart Stadium.

Grizzlies Defeat Trail Blazers

(Portland, OR) — The Grizzlies outscored the Trail Blazers 33-to-21 in the fourth quarter to win in the Pacific Northwest. Memphis beat the Blazers 113-103 in Portland. Six Grizzlies finished in double figures, led by Desmond Bane with 23 points and Dillon Brooks with 22 points. Memphis heads south to play the Kings in Sacramento tomorrow night.

Predators Prepare For Colorado

(Nashville, TN) — The Predators are back on the ice tonight. Nashville hosts the Colorado Avalanche. The Predators’ game against the Calgary Flames on Tuesday was postponed because Calgary had some COVID-19 issues. Nashville has won five straight.

Binnington Clears COVID Protocols

(St. Louis, MO) — The Blues got their top goaltender back from a COVID absence. Jordan Binnington will rejoin the team for practice today after clearing COVID-19 protocols yesterday. He missed the last seven games after testing positive for the virus two weeks ago. To make space on the roster, the Blues traded goalie Jon Gillies to the Devils in exchange for future considerations. They host the Stars tomorrow night.

Racers Sign 15 On Early Signing Day

Fifteen student-athletes from seven different states made it official Wednesday that they have chosen to continue their academic and football careers at Murray State as part of the 2022 National Signing Day early signing period. In the first part of his third signing class, head coach Dean Hood added size and speed with an emphasis on the offense, which represented eight of the 15 signees. In total, MSU signed three linebackers, three offensive linemen, three wide receivers, two defensive backs, two defensive linemen, a quarterback and a tight end. Also represented in this year’s class and three three-star recruits, a two-star recruit and four former state champions.

Chiefs Battle Chargers For First In Division

(Inglewood, CA) — The Chiefs are visiting a division rival in Week 15 when they visit the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football. Kansas City enters the game leading the AFC West at 9-and-4 and will be looking to extend its winning streak to seven games. Los Angeles is in second-place at 8-and-5 and is hoping to push its winning streak to three games.

Urban Meyer Out As Jaguars Head Coach

(Jacksonville, FL) — The Urban Meyer experiment in Jacksonville is over. The team announced that Meyer is out as the Jaguars head coach. The NFL Network reports that Jacksonville offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell will serve as the interim head coach for the final four games of the season. Meyer leaves the NFL with a record of 2-and-11. Jacksonville team owner Shad Khan said that “an immediate change is imperative for everyone”.

Report: DeAndre Hopkins To Miss Rest Of Regular Season

(Tempe, AZ) — The Cardinals are losing their top receiving threat, at least for the regular season. ESPN reports receiver DeAndre Hopkins is expected to be sidelined until potentially the postseason due to a sprained knee. Hopkins suffered the injury in Monday’s loss to the Rams. He’s expected to seek a second opinion and it remains to be seen if surgery will be needed.

Report: Washington Football Team Owner Dan Snyder Tried To Hinder Investigation

(Undated) — More information is coming out about the investigation into the Washington Football Team. The Washington Post reports that Washington owner Dan Snyder tried to prevent a woman who accused him of sexual misconduct from participating in the investigation done by D.C. attorney Beth Wilkinson. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Wednesday that Snyder did not interfere with the league’s investigation.

Washington Football Team Adds Eight To COVID List

(Ashburn, VA) — The Washington Football Team’s COVID outbreak is becoming more significant. On Wednesday, the team added eight players to its COVID-19 list that now contains 18 players. Only two of the 18 players are unvaccinated, meaning most of the players would be able to return if they have two negative tests within 24 hours of one another.

Las Vegas Picked For 2024 Super Bowl

(Las Vegas, NV) — Las Vegas will host the Super Bowl in 2024. Super Bowl 58 was originally set for New Orleans, but was pulled due to the game overlapping with Mardi Gras. Raiders owner Mark Davis celebrated the news in a statement.

Report: NBA, Players Association Look To Increase COVID-19 Testing

(Undated) — The NBA is clamping down on COVID-19 testing as more and more players enter the league’s health and safety protocols. ESPN reports the NBA and the NBA Players Association have entered talks to increase testing for players for all game and practice days. The testing would include all players and staff, regardless of vaccination status. The NBA does report that 97 percent of its players are vaccinated.

Danny Ainge Joins Jazz Front Office

(Salt Lake City, UT) — Danny Ainge is taking a job with the Utah Jazz that will have him oversee basketball operations as the alternate governor and CEO of Jazz Basketball and the Smith Entertainment Group. General manager Justin Zanik will continue to run the team’s day-to-day operations. Ainge will work closely with Zanik and an ownership group that includes new owner Ryan Smith and former NBA star Dwyane Wade.

Blackhawks, Kyle Beach Reach Settlement

(Undated) — The Chicago Blackhawks are announcing in a joint statement with Susan Loggans, the attorney representing former prospect Kyle Beach, that they have reached a settlement agreement in the sexual assault lawsuit. Beach alleged that he was sexually assaulted by former video coach Brad Aldrich during the 2010 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Team personnel was informed of the incident, but decided not to further investigate it during the postseason run.

Top Ranked Recruit Commits To Jackson State

(Jackson, MS) — The top ranked high school football recruit in the country is committing to Jackson State University. Five-star cornerback Travis Hunter decommitted from Florida State and announced he’ll be playing at the next level with the Tigers. Hunter’s new head coach Deion Sanders played college football at Florida State and is now getting recruits to flip to play for him in Mississippi.
