
Racers Improve to 6-1 with Win over Evansville
Macey Turley scored 29 points and Katelyn Young added a career high 28 on 10 of 10 shooting from the field to lead Murray State to an 85-77 road win over Evansville in women’s basketball last night. Young had 13 rebounds to notch a double double along with Alexis Burpo who chipped in with 10 points and 12 boards. The 6-1 Racers continue their two game road swing with a 2 pm this Saturday at Samford.
Local Basketball Round-up
The Murray High Lady tigers lost in a blowout to the Graves Co eagles 82-21. Lady eagles led 22-5 after one, 49-12 at the half, 67-17 after three and the final 82-21. The Lady Tigers Travel to Trigg tomorrow Night.
Calloway loses both sides of a twin bill to McCracken Co. The Lady Lakers lost 65-31, and the boys lose 60-33. The boys play at Trinity on Friday, and the girls play Trinity at home on Saturday.
Mark Stoops Signs Contract Extension Through 2028
(Lexington, KY) — Mark Stoops will be staying in Lexington for a long time. Stoops signed a contract extension with Kentucky that lasts through June of 2028. The deal also has a guaranteed one-year extension for any season with seven wins, and two-year extensions for any season with nine wins, including this season where the Wildcats went 9-and-3. Kentucky checked in at number-23 in the most recent College Football Playoff Rankings.
Grizzlies Beat Raptors On The Road
(Toronto, ON) — The Grizzlies picked up a win north of the border. Memphis took down the Raptors 98-91 in Toronto. Jaren Jackson Jr. led the Grizzlies with 25 points, followed by Desmond Bane with 23 points and Dillon Brooks with 17. Memphis hosts the Thunder tomorrow night.
Forsberg Scores Four Goals As Preds Shut Out Columbus
(Nashville, TN) — Filip Forsberg had a hat trick and then some in the Preds’ win over Columbus. Forsberg scored four goals in the Predators’ 6-oh win over the Blue Jackets in Nashville. He scored twice in the first period and twice in the second. Yakov Trenin and Nick Cousins found the back of the net as well. Nashville goalie Juuse Saros made 27 saves in the shutout. The Preds host the Boston Bruins tomorrow night.
Blues Rally Past Lightning In Shootout
(St. Louis, MO) — Ryan O’Reilly scored the lone goal in the shootout as the Blues rallied past the Lightning 4-3 in St. Louis. O’Reilly and Logan Brown tallied in the second period before Ivan Barbashev lit the lamp in the third for St. Louis, which erased an early 3-0 deficit. The Blues will rematch with the Bolts tomorrow in Tampa
UofL To Face Michigan State As Part Of ACC/Big Ten Challenge
(East Lansing, MI) — The U-of-L basketball team will play Michigan State in the final night of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge in East Lansing, Michigan. The ACC trails the Big Ten six-games-to-two going into tonight’s games and hasn’t won the event in three years. The Cardinals were crushed by Wisconsin last year. The game against the Spartans is set for 7:15.
Vols Thump Presbyterian, Prepare For Colorado
(Knoxville, TN) — The Tennessee basketball team is on a three game winning streak. The Volunteers thumped Presbyterian, 86-44, at Thompson-Boling Arena last night. The Vols are now five-and-one this season. They’ll face Colorado in Boulder on Saturday afternoon.

LeBron James Enters Health And Safety Protocols
(Sacramento, CA) — The Lakers are losing LeBron James for a third time this season. Los Angeles announced Tuesday that James entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols. ESPN reports James is expected to miss several games as he’s expected to be sidelined for at least 10 days. However the star forward can return earlier should he test negative for COVID-19 twice within a 24-hour span. James has already missed time this season due to an abdominal injury and to a suspension. He did reveal in September that he received the COVID-19 vaccine.
Report: MLB, Players Not Close To CBA Agreement
(Undated) — The MLB and the Players Association are reportedly not close to making any ground on a collective bargaining agreement. With the agreement set to expire at the end of day Wednesday, the two sides came together for another attempt at coming to an agreement, according to ESPN. Instead, major hurdles such as earlier free agency for players continue to remain in the way. If no deal is struck, the likely result is a lockout from the owners.
Michigan Jumps Back Into Top-Four Of CFP Rankings

Former Cub Javier Baez Signs With $140M Deal With Tigers
(Chicago, IL) — Former Chicago Cubs shortstop Javier Baez is now with a new team. The standout infielder signed a deal today with the Detroit Tigers. The six-year contract is reportedly worth 140-million-dollars. Baez spent the last 47 games of the 2021 season with the New York Mets after the Cubs traded the Gold Glove winner to the Big Apple. He helped the Cubs win the World Series in 2016.

Report: Daniel Jones Could Miss Time
(East Rutherford, NJ) — Daniel Jones could be missing his first game of the season. ESPN reports the Giants quarterback is dealing with a strained neck and might not play against the Dolphins on Sunday. That would leave Mike Glennon to start under center for New York. Jones suffered the injury on the second play of last week’s win over the Eagles but managed to play the whole game. New York signed Jake Fromm on Tuesday to add QB depth.
Five-Star QB Malachi Nelson Follows Lincoln Riley To USC
(Los Angeles, CA) — Lincoln Riley isn’t wasting time on bringing talent to USC. The now former Oklahoma coach has secured the talents of five-star quarterback Malachi Nelson. The 2023 prospect decommitted from the Sooners after Riley left to take the job with the Trojans. Nelson then pledged his commitment to USC on Tuesday. He was one of seven decommitments for Oklahoma in the aftermath of Riley’s departure. ESPN ranks Nelson as the third overall prospect for the class of 2023.
Devils Sign Hughes To Eight-Year Extension
(Newark, NJ) — The Devils are making sure their former Number-1 overall pick stays in town. New Jersey signed 20-year-old center Jack Hughes to an 8-year contract extension worth 64 million dollars. Hughes’ new deal begins in the 2022-23 season. The Devils drafted Hughes with the top pick in 2019. Hughes has two goals and one assist this season, but was second in points for New Jersey last year.
Miami Acquires Wendle From Rays
(Miami, FL) — All-Star third baseman Joey Wendle is on his way to Miami. The Marlins acquired Wendle in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays. In return, Tampa is receiving 23-year-old prospect Kameron Misner. The 31-year-old Wendle made his first All-Star game in 2021, and he finished the season with a .265 average, 31 doubles, 11 home runs, and 54 RBI. Misner split time between High-A and Double-A, hitting .253 with 12 home runs and 59 RBI in 102 games.
NFL Draws Highest Thanksgiving Ratings Since 1998
(New York, NY) — The National Football League is thankful for holiday football ratings this year. The Thanksgiving games this year had the most viewers since 1998, led by the Dallas Cowboys and Las Vegas Raiders matchup. In the Raiders 36-to-33 victory, the matchup averaged over 38-million viewers across TV and streaming, making it the most-watched regular-season game since 1990. The three games over the holiday averaged just under 30-million viewers across CBS, Fox and NBC Universal, up almost ten-percent from last season.
Utah‘s Olympic Backers No Longer Heading To Switzerland To Meet With IOC
(Salt Lake City, UT) — New concerns over COVID-19 are prompting Utah’s Olympic backers to forgo a planned trip to Switzerland. The Salt Lake City-Utah Committee for the Games planned to hold meetings at the International Olympic Committee headquarters on December 6th. Now, the IOC and the Committee will hold a virtual sit-down to informally go over Utah’s 2030 bid for the Winter Olympics. A longer in-person meeting is still expected after the 2022 Winter Games in Beijing.
