RACER WOMEN FALL SHORT IN UPSET BID AT MISSOURI
Missouri ended the game on a 13-5 run to escape an upset bid by Murray State with a 76-70 win last night in women’s basketball at Mizzou Arena in Columbia. The Racers erased a 13-point first-half deficit and took the lead 65-63 with 5:46 remaining with a Hannah McKay layup. But the Tigers dialed up the defensive pressure, forcing Murray State to miss five of their final six shots. Katelyn Young led the Racers with 21 points, with McKay scoring 17 and Macey Turley 16 as Murray State shot 51% from the field. The 1-1 Racers return home to face Cumberlands on Monday.
MURRAY HIGH AT MAYFIELD TONIGHT
8-2 Murray High travels to 10-1 Mayfield tonight for round two of the KHSAA football 2A playoffs. The Tigers downed the Cardinals 25-21 on October 22, and Murray head coach Darren Bowling knows not much has changed since then, and that the Cardinals are still a formidible opponent. Airtime for tonight’s 7 pm game will be at 6 on WNBS AM and FM. In other area games:
Paducah Tilghman at Union County
Graves County at Owensboro
Hopkinsville at Logan County
Crittenden County at Russellville
RACER FOOTBALL HOST SEMO ON SENIOR DAY
Murray State football’s quest for a winning season remains alive as the Racers look for a second win this season over Southeast Missouri. SEMO enters tomorrow’s game with a 3-1 OVC record, and can win the league title with wins over Murray State and UT Martin to close out the season. Saturday will be the 57th all-time meeting between the Racers and the Redhawks with Murray State leading the way in the all-time series, 42-13-1. Southeast Missouri has won 4 of the last 7 games in the series, however, the Racers have now won reach of the last two meetings. Airtime for the game is set for 12:30 tomorrow afternoon on Froggy 103.7. In other football games tomorrow, Kentucky is at Vanderbilt, Georgia visits Tennessee, Syracuse is at Louisville, UT Martin travels to Tennessee Tech, and Austin Peay plays at Tennessee State.

AREA HOCKEY ROUNDUP
Matt Duchene’s overtime goal gave the Predators a 4-3 win over the Blues in St. Louis. Duchene finished with two goals since he scored in the second period, and Luke Kunin and Yakov Trenin found the back of the net as well for Nashville. David Rittich made 33 saves for the Preds, who improved to 8-5-and-1. Nashville hosts the Arizona Coyotes tomorrow night. The Blues visit the Hurricane tomorrow.
MEMPHIS HOSTS PHOENIX IN JA VS CAM MATCHUP
The defending Western Conference champions are coming to Memphis. The Grizzlies host the Phoenix Suns tonight as former Racers Ja Morant and Cam Payne face off for early season bragging rights. TITANS HOST NEW ORLEANS
The Titans are set to host the Trevor Siemian-led Saints in Nashville on Sunday. Tennessee sits atop the AFC at 7-and-2 and is riding high after a 28-16 road win over the Rams last week. With Derrick Henry out with a foot injury, the Titans will go with Jeremy McNichols, D’Onta Foreman and Adrian Peterson at running back. Tennessee is not the only team dealing with a major injury, as the Saints have turned to Siemian after Jameis Winston went out with a torn ACL. Taysom Hill could also see some action for the 5-and-3 Saints.
NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
The Dolphins flexed their defensive muscles in primetime. Miami held Lamar Jackson and the Ravens to a quiet night in a 22-10 win at home. Tua Tagovailoa rushed for a score after entering the game. Miami improves to 3-and-7. Jackson threw a touchdown and an interception for the Ravens. Mark Andrews scored for Baltimore, which drops to 6-and-3.
Wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is signing with the Los Angeles Rams. After conflicting reports, the team announced on their twitter that they have agreed to terms with Beckham Jr. He joins a 7-and-2 Rams team that added star pass rusher Von Miller from Denver last week.
The Panthers are bringing back a familiar face. Former number one pick Cam Newton is reuniting with his former team, pending a physical. Carolina is in desperate need of help at the quarterback position, with starter Sam Darnold out 4-to-6 weeks with a shoulder injury. Newton is the team’s all-time leader in passing yards, touchdowns and rushing touchdowns.
Shohei Ohtani is headlining this year’s Silver Slugger Award winners. The Angels two-way star was a first time winner, alongside Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Marcus Semien, Rafael Devers, Austin Riley, Cedric Mullins, Nick Castellanos and Max Fried. The World Series champion Braves led the NL with four selections, while the Blue Jays paced the AL with three.
The Chicago Bulls will be without one of their best players for a bit. ESPN reports Nikola Vucevic tested positive for COVID-19 Thursday and has entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols. Since Vucevic tested positive, he will be out for 10 days or until he has two negative PCR tests in a 24-hour period.
It’s Week 11 in college football. Top-ranked Georgia will look to keep rolling when it visits Tennessee Saturday. Second-ranked Alabama will look to have an easy week at home against New Mexico State. Third-ranked Oregon welcomes Washington State to town. Fourth-ranked Ohio State will host Purdue. Elsewhere, number-five Cincinnati visits South Florida tonight.
UConn is hiring Jim Mora to be its next head football coach. Athletic director David Benedict made the announcement that the former UCLA and NFL coach is taking over the Huskies. Mora and UConn agreed to a five-year deal that will pay him 1.5-million-dollars in the first season and another 200-thousand-dollars in yearly incentives. The 59-year-old last coached in 2017 for UCLA.
The first round of the Houston Open at Memorial Park Golf Course was suspended. Four players have a share of the top spot on the leaderboard at the time play was suspended.
