KHSAA FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS ARE UNDERWAY
The high school football playoffs are underway in Kentucky. Last night, Union County blanked Webster County 49-0, and it was South Warren over Christian County 47-6. 7-2 Murray High hosts 7-3 Caldwell County tonight in round one of the KHSAA 2A Playoffs at Ty Holland Stadium. Thanks to a slightly better RPI, Murray hosts tonight’s game despite falling to Caldwell County 20-14 on October 15. Airtime for the 7 pm game is set for 6 on on WNBS AM and FM. Elsewhere tonight, Ballard Memorial is at Mayfield, Fulton County visits Crittenden County, Tilghman hosts Trigg County, Hopkins Central visits Hopkinsville, Madisonville travels to Logan County, Breckenridge County will be at Graves County, McCracken County is at Daviess County, and Marshall County visits Trinity.

RACER FOOTBALL HOSTS TENNESSEE TECH
The Murray State football team returns home Saturday for the first of its final two home games of the season when they welcome Tennessee Tech to Stewart Stadium for a 1 pm game. Both teams come in with 3-5 records, with the Golden Eagles winning 3 of their last 4 games after an 0-4 start to the season. Tennessee Tech leads the league in sacks and rushing defense, and Racer head coach Dean Hood says the Golden Eagles have few weaknesses on that side of the ball. Airtime for tomorrow’s game is set for 12:30 on FROGGY 103.7.

In other games on Saturday, Tennessee is at #18 Kentucky, Clemson visits Louisville, Eastern Illinois is at Austin Peay, Tennessee State is at 15th-ranked UT Martin, Middle Tennessee travels to Western Kentucky, SIU hosts Missouri State, and SMU is at Memphis.

RACERS PLACE THREE ON OVC SOCCER TEAMS
Three members of the Murray State Soccer team were named to 2021 All-OVC teams. Sophomore midfielder Hailey Cole was named first-team All-OVC, fifth year defender Izzy Heckman was named to the second-team, and freshman defender Morgan Bodker was named to the all-newcomer team. UT Martin’s Kamryn Chappell was named the OVC Defender of the Year while the Skyhawks Parker Gelinas was selected as the Freshman of the Year. UTM’s Phil McNamara earned Coach of the Year honors. SIUE’s Mackenzie Litzsinger was named the Forward of the Year while teammate Andrea Frerker earned Midfielder of the Year honors. Belmont’s Andrea Leitner was tabbed the Goalkeeper of the Year. Top seed UT Martin hosts the OVC Soccer semifinals today and the title game on Sunday.

RACER VOLLEYBALL HOSTS SEMO
The 13-6 Murray State volleyball team will return home to Racer Arena to host Southeast Missouri on Senior Weekend. The teams meet tonight at 6 and tomorrow at 6. The Racers have won five straight.

BROWN NAMED TO HENSON AWARD WATCH LIST
Four Ohio Valley Conference men’s basketball players have been named to the Lou Henson Award Watch List by CollegeInsider.com. The four players were Morehead State forward Johni Broome, Murray State guard Tevin Brown, Belmont guard Grayson Murphy and Belmont center Nick Muszynski. The award is presented annually to the top mid-major player in division I college basketball. Brown enters this season with 1,343 points, 303 assists and 410 rebounds and is poised to make a run at the Racers career made 3-pointers record. He has 248, which is only 56 behind Isaiah Canaan’s school mark. Brown is also only 71 made trifectas away from the OVC career mark.

RACER TENNIS HOSTS MSU INVITATIONAL
Murray State Tennis will host Belmont and SEMO in the MSU Invitational this weekend at Bennie Purcell Courts in Murray. This will be the Racers first home matches of the fall after playing in the Central Arkansas Invitational and the North Alabama Invitational. Belmont and SEMO will meet at 1 pm on Friday for four doubles matchups and eight singles matches. Murray State will begin its action at 1 pm Saturday versus SEMO before taking on Belmont at noon Sunday.

MEMPHIS AT WASHINGTON TONIGHT
The Grizzlies are hitting the road. Memphis plays the Wizards tonight in Washington DC. Both teams enter the matchup at 5-and-3 overall.

AREA HOCKEY ROUNDUP
In hockey, the Blues notched a 5-3 win against the San Jose Sharks at SAP Center. The Blues visit the Ducks on Sunday. The Predators are staying in Canada for their next road game. Nashville plays the Canucks in Vancouver tonight. The Preds enter tonight’s game at 5-and-5.

TITANS AT RAMS SUNDAY NIGHT
Adrian Peterson and the Titans head to LA to play Von Miller and the Rams on Sunday Night Football. Peterson was signed by Tennessee this week after Derrick Henry suffered a foot injury last week against the Colts. The Titans’ passing attack could carry the team without him, as Ryan Tannehill has thrown for 10 touchdowns and connected with AJ Brown for 509 yards and three TDs.

NASHVILLE HOSTS NEW YORK ON SUNDAY
Nashville SC plays its final regular season game on Sunday. Nashville hosts the New York Red Bulls on Sunday afternoon. Nashville is third in the MLS Eastern Conference with 53 points.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
The Colts are celebrating a 45-30 victory over the Jets on Thursday Night Football in Indianapolis. Carson Wentz bounced back from a rough performance against the Titans as he threw for 272 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Jonathan Taylor ran for 172 yards and two touchdowns. Mike White started at quarterback for the Jets before he left due to injury. Josh Johnson came on in relief and threw for 317 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception.

The Golden Knights are adding another superstar to the mix. Vegas has acquired star forward Jack Eichel from the Buffalo Sabres. In return, the Knights are sending Alex Tuch, Peyton Krebs and draft picks to Buffalo. Eichel and the Sabres have been at odds over an artificial disk replacement surgery. The forward will now undergo the surgery before making his debut with Vegas. Eichel was the second overall pick in the 2015 draft.

Week 10 of the college football season is upon us. On Saturday, it’s a showdown between second-ranked Alabama and LSU in Tuscaloosa. Elsewhere, top-ranked Georgia hosts Missouri. Third-ranked Michigan State visits Purdue. Number-four Oregon will be on the road against Washington. Fifth-ranked Ohio State will visit Nebraska in Big Ten action.

Matthew Wolff is leading the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba after the first round. Wolff shot a 61 on the first day of the tournament to finish atop the leaderboard at ten-under par. Aaron Wise is in second place at eight-under par. Sergio Garcia, Talor Gooch, Chris Kirk, and Billy Horschel are in a four-way tie for third place at seven-under par.

The NASCAR Cup Series Championship race will take place from Phoenix Raceway on Sunday. Kyle Larson, Denny Hamlin, Chase Elliott, and Martin Truex Jr. are all chasing a title. Elliott enters the race as the defending champion from last season.
