SUSPECT CAPTURED
That suspect who fled from Calloway County sheriff deputies yesterday morning in in custody. The Calloway County Sheriff’s Office said a drone from Calloway County Fire Rescue was used to help locate William Elliot who was arrested without incident. Elliott had fled law enforcement on foot in the area of Landon Lane in Northern Calloway County yesterday morning and was considered armed and dangerous. He was charged with Assault 4th Degree (Domestic Violence), 2nd Degree Wanton Endangerment, 3rd Degree Criminal Mischief, 1st Degree Fleeing or Evading Police, and Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, and was lodged in the Calloway County Jail.

THE DEN GETS MONEY FROM CFSB PROGRAM
The Den Youth Service Center at Murray High School received $1,250 in proceeds from CFSB’s Purchase with Purpose Program. Den Director Jane Ann Turner said funds will be used to assist with ongoing Murray High School programs. Purchase with a Purpose was a program CFSB promoted in August that dedicated funds for the High School Resource Centers in Marshall, Calloway, McCracken, and Graves counties. In partnership with Discover, the promotion was based off the number of debit card swipes that CFSB clients had during the month of August. $10,000 was collected and split among the schools.

TEACHER CHARGED WITH CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE
Troopers with Kentucky State Police, Post 1 have charged a teacher after an investigation into allegations of inappropriate contact with a student. In August, KSP Post 1 received a report regarding a Carlisle County Middle School teacher who allegedly used force to inappropriately touch a student. On Wednesday, the Carlisle County Sheriff’s Office served an arrest warrant on 37-year old Clay Tilford of West Paducah. Tilford is charged with Sexual Abuse of a victim Under 12 Years of Age and Voyeurism. He was lodged in the McCracken County Regional Jail.

CCHD REPORTS 21 NEW COVID-19 CASES
The Calloway County Health Department reported 21 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. Six of the new cases were over 60 years of age. The county currently has 166 cases isolated at home and 13 are hospitalized. Calloway County’s latest reported positivity rate is 8.92% which is lower than the state rate of 10.08%. The state reported 1,495 confirmed new cases and 45 confirmed new deaths yesterday. There were 1,976 hospitalized as of Thursday, which is 247 less than last Thursday, including 566 in ICU, which is 59 less than a week ago.

MURRAY FRYSC GETS GRANT MONEY
The Murray Family Resource Youth Service Center is one of approximately 150 Kentucky FRYSC centers who received a $100,000 grant, through the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief fund. The grant provides states with emergency assistance as a result of COVID-19. The core of Murray’s funding is focused on Early Childhood Educating and Family Crisis & Mental Health Counseling. This two-year grant will provide funding for these programs through September of 2023.

IN AND AROUND KENTUCKY
FRANKFORT—A pair of Democratic state representatives is preparing to introduce legislation to safeguard access to abortion in Kentucky. Mary Lou Marzian and Lisa Winter pre-filed a bill yesterday that would protect the right to abortion. The bill would also ensure the state abides by legal protections put in place by Supreme Court rulings. The measure is a response to a Texas law restricting abortion rights, along with other challenges across the country.

FRANKFORT—Renewal by mail is now available for Kentucky driver’s licenses and IDs. The mail-in option went into effect today, allowing Kentuckians to renew and update four-year driver’s licenses, motorcycle licenses, and IDs with proper documentation. Patrons can also replace a lost or stolen license or ID. The program is an extension of the commonwealth’s new online renewal service, and it is part of the switch to using the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet for licensing services.

PIKE COUNTY—Kentucky State Police are confirming that foul play was involved in a Pike County death. The body of 74-year-old Hazard Miller was found September 20th near an abandoned surface mining access road in Phelps. Miller had left home two days earlier on an overnight hunt for ginseng. KSP issued the confirmation of foul play yesterday, saying the investigation is open and ongoing.

TENNESSEE—There are over 41-hundred new coronavirus cases in Tennessee. The Tennessee Department of Health reported the new cases yesterday, bringing the total since the outbreak began to over one-million-228-thousand. An additional 50 COVID-19-related deaths were also reported, with the total number standing at more than 15-thousand. There are over 25-hundred COVID-19 hospitalizations in Tennessee.

TENNESSEE—Governor Bill Lee is calling for a special legislative session to approve a deal with Ford Motor Company. Tennessee offered Ford 500-million dollars in incentives to build facilities to manufacture electric trucks and batteries at the Memphis Regional Megasite in Haywood County. The project announced earlier this week will cost over five-and-a-half-billion dollars and is expected to create about six-thousand jobs. Lawmakers are expected to gather for the special session on Monday, October 18th.

TENNESSEE—A State Senator was found guilty of four of five federal counts of wire fraud. Katrina Robinson was convicted yesterday after being accused of stealing grant money intended for the certified nursing school she runs. The Memphis Democrat maintains she’s innocent, saying she’ll ask for a new trial. Republican Lieutenant Governor Randy McNally of Oak Ridge says Robinson should step down from her Senate seat.
