NFL, NFLPA Agree To More COVID-19 Testing For Vaccinated Players

(Undated)  —  The NFL Players Association is agreeing to the NFL’s proposal to test fully vaccinated players more often.  Fully vaccinated players will now be tested once every seven days, compared to once every 14 days under the old protocols.  Unvaccinated players will continue to be tested daily.  The new rules also mean that players who are not fully vaccinated will have to wear masks indoors and that some fully vaccinated players will have to wear masks inside.  Partially vaccinated players made up 93% of NFL training camp rosters as of last week.

Colts Place Wentz, Two Others On COVID-19 List

(Indianapolis, IN)  —  The Colts are announcing they have placed three players on the COVID-19 List, including quarterback Carson Wentz.  Pro Bowl center Ryan Kelly and wide receiver Zach Pascal have also been placed on the COVID-19 list.  ESPN is reporting that the three players were placed on the COVID-19 list after being in close contact with a Colts staff member who tested positive for the virus.  Under NFL protocols, vaccinated players are only placed on the COVID-19 list if they test positive, so this would indicate the three players are unvaccinated.

(Tempe, AZ)  —  Former Super Bowl 49 hero Malcolm Butler could be reportedly leaning toward retirement.  According to multiple reports, the Arizona Cardinals cornerback is dealing with a personal issue that has him contemplating calling it a career.  The 31-year-old signed with the Cardinals in the offseason after spending time with the Titans.  Butler is best remembered for his famous interception against Russell Wilson to secure the Patriots a Super Bowl victory over the Seahawks.

Sean Payton: We Likely Won’t Be Back This Week

(Dallas, TX)  —  The coach of the New Orleans Saints says the team won’t likely be returning to the hurricane-ravaged city this week.  Sean Payton said Monday in Dallas the team will practice there for the next few days, and then will be off Thursday through Sunday.  He added he will then tell the guys where they need to be “but I don’t see that realistically being in New Orleans.”  The Saints’ home opener is scheduled for September 12th against Green Bay.  A stadium management official told NOLA.com the stadium itself is in good enough shape to host a football game, but it will depend on if the stadium has power and water pressure.

NFL Cut-Downs Today

(Undated)  —  It’s an anxious time around the NFL as teams are trimming their rosters for the league’s mandatory cut-downs today.  NFL teams need to have their 53-man roster finalized by 4 PM Eastern Time today.  Some notable NFL players have already been let go by their team earlier in camp, including Dolphins center Matt Skura, Titans linebacker John Simon, Chiefs defensive lineman Taco Charlton, Lions offensive lineman Tyrell Crosby, and Washington Football Team running back Lamar Miller.

Ohtani To Miss Start After Hit By Pitch

(Anaheim, CA)  —  The Los Angeles Angels won’t be sending Shohei Ohtani to the mound this week.  The two-way superstar is skipping his scheduled start as he gives his right hand some extra time to heal.  Ohtani was hit in his pitching hand during the Angels’ game against the San Diego Padres on Saturday.  The Athletic reported the X-Rays on his hand came back negative, but Ohtani will still miss the start.  The injury didn’t affect his ability to hit as he remains in the starting lineup and hit a home run against the New York Yankees on Monday.
