Road Work on 641
A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) plans milling and paving along a section of U.S. 641/Kentucky Lake Road in northern Marshall County starting today.
This project runs along U.S. 641/Kentucky Lake Road from the U.S. 68 intersection at mile point 12 in Draffenville extending northward to Red River Road at mile point 17, a distance of just over 5 miles.
Motorists should be alert for one lane traffic with alternating flow controlled by flaggers. Some delays are possible during the movement and placement of equipment to facilitate the work.
Kentucky Covid Update
Over 32-hundred new COVID-19 cases are being reported in Kentucky. Governor Andy Beshear announced the new cases of the virus yesterday, along with eight additional deaths. More than 16-hundred people in the commonwealth are hospitalized for COVID-19-related illnesses, with almost 240 on ventilators.
Governor Andy Beshear says the state of Kentucky hospitals overrun by COVID cases is dire, the governor said misinformation is leading to fewer people getting vaccinated and is literally killing people. Meanwhile, Kentucky hospitals are reaching capacity levels not seen to this point of the pandemic. Beshear continues to urge Kentuckians to get fully vaccinated as that is the primary way to reduce the spread of the virus.

The Girl Scouts of Kentucky Wilderness Road announced yesterday they will join other scouts in selling the newest addition called Adventurefuls. It is a brownie inspired cookie with sea salt and caramel and it might just rival the most popular Thin Mint cookie.
KY Man Charged in Capitol Riot
A former Hardin County Sheriff’s deputy is being charged for his alleged role in the breach of the U.S. Capitol. The FBI in Louisville says Joseph Irwin was arrested yesterday and charged with unlawful entry and disorderly conduct in a restricted building, disorderly conduct and parading-demonstrating in the Capitol Building. HCSO says Irwin left the department on good terms after working there in 2015. Irwin is the 15th Kentuckian charged following January’s riot.
Mask Mandate at National Parks
You’ll need a mask while inside buildings at Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The National Park Service announced on Monday that all visitors, employees, and contractors are required to wear a mask inside all NPS buildings and in crowded outdoor spaces. Over 12-million people visited the Smoky Mountains last year. It’s the nation’s most visited national park.
Sen. McConnell Urges Vax
Senator Mitch McConnell continues to push Kentuckians to get vaccinated against COVID-19. While visiting Butler County yesterday, Senator McConnell noted the recent rise in COVID cases. McConnell said the only way to beat the virus is to get vaccinated. He said it’s a fact that 97 percent of people hospitalized with the coronavirus are unvaccinated.

Owensboro Property Taxes To Stay The Same
(Owensboro, KY) — There’s good news for Owensboro homeowners. The city is leaving its real property tax rate unchanged this year. Owensboro homeowners pay 264-dollars in property taxes per 100-thousand-dollars of assessed value. The rate will be made official during the next city commission meeting.
GRDHD Updates Coronavirus Numbers
(Owensboro, KY) — The Green River District Health Department is reporting a rise in coronavirus cases. Yesterday, the GRDHD reported nearly 550 additional confirmed cases with 224 in Daviess County, 130 in Henderson County, 58 in Ohio County, 56 in Union County, 39 in Webster County and 20 each in McLean and Hancock counties. There have been over 26-thousand-530 cases in the seven-county District since the outbreak began. Over one-thousand have required hospitalization.
Letcher County School Bus Crash Under Investigation
(Letcher County, KY) — Authorities are investigating after a Letcher County school bus ran off the road. Kentucky State Police say the crash happened yesterday afternoon on Goose Creek Road in Neon. Investigators say the bus driver went off the right hand side of the road, causing the bus to flip onto its side. One child was taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

(Knott County, KY) — Knott County schools are closed until Friday. District officials say the move is an effort to prevent further spread of COVID-19. Extracurricular activities and school events are also canceled.
Multiple Agencies Searching For Missing Henderson County Man
(Henderson County, KY) — Multiple agencies are searching for a missing Henderson County man. The sheriff’s office says 90-year-old Jackie Leeg was last seen Monday afternoon at his home along Kentucky 416 West outside Niagara. The sheriff says Leeg’s bed was undisturbed Monday night, and his utility vehicle is gone. At least five agencies are involved in the search.
Final Big Rivers Headquarters Agreement Includes Funding For Parking
(Owensboro, KY) — The final agreement between the city of Owensboro and Big Rivers Electric will include funding for parking. The city council took final action on the agreement yesterday, approving a measure to pay the company three-million dollars to help fund a planned parking structure. The structure would provide 110 parking spots for employees of Boardwalk Pipeline Partners, who currently park on the lot where Big Rivers’ headquarters will be. The city committed early on in the negotiation process to provide parking for Boardwalk’s employees as part of the deal.
KY State Fair Offering Vaccine Incentives
(Louisville, KY) — The effort to boost vaccinations in Kentucky will include incentives at the Kentucky State Fair. The fair opens on Wednesday in Louisville and the Kentucky Association of Health Plans will be giving away prizes including a free unlimited ride wristband and 20-dollar gift cards. Kentuckians age 12 and older are eligible for vaccination. About 54-percent of the state has received at least one dose a vaccine, but Governor Beshear is urging people to get vaccinated to protect the young people who are not old enough to be vaccinated at this time.
Grand Jury Indicts Whitley County Woman For Murder
(Whitley Co., KY) — A Whitley County woman is indicted for murder. Allison Harvey is charged with causing the death of William Hale on May 26th. The charges say Harvey committed murder when she wantonly drove a motor vehicle while under the influence. The charges say Harvey engaged in conduct which created a grave risk and caused the death of Hale.

TDH Updates State Coronavirus Cases
(Nashville, TN) — There are over 35-hundred new coronavirus cases in Tennessee. The Tennessee Department of Health reported the new cases yesterday, bringing the total since the outbreak began to over 958-thousand. An additional 32 COVID-19-related deaths were also reported, with the total number standing at over 13-thousand. There are over 23-hundred COVID-19 hospitalizations in Tennessee.
Over 100k Tennesseans Vaccinated Against COVID-19 In One Week
(Nashville, TN) — The Tennessee Department of Health is reporting a rise in COVID-19 vaccinations. TDH says over 109-thousand vaccinations have been given since August 8th. Nearly six-million vaccinations have been administered statewide. The percentage of Tennesseans with at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine is close to 47 percent, while the percentage of fully vaccinated people in the state is just over 40 percent.
State’s 2nd Largest School Districts Still Requiring Masks
(Nashville, TN) — The state’s second largest school district is defying the governor’s executive order allowing parents to opt their children out of school mask mandates. Governor Bill Lee issued the order on Monday. Metro Nashville Public Schools Director Dr. Adrienne Battle says the district will continue to require masks as it reviews Governor Lee’s order. Battle added that allowing anyone to opt out of its mask requirement for any reason other than “legitimate medical need” would make it ineffective and require more students to be quarantined and kept out of classrooms.
Another Tennessean Charged For Alleged Role In Capitol Unrest
(Undated) — A 17th Tennessean is being charged for his alleged role in the breach of the U.S. Capitol Building. Ronald Colton McAbee was arrested yesterday on eight federal charges connected to January’s riot. The charges against the Unionville man include entering a restricted area with a deadly weapon and engaging in violence on capitol grounds. McAbee is among seven people charged with assaulting DC police officers who were stationed at the front of the Capitol Building during the riot.
Metro Councilmember Urges Health Officials To Issue Indoor Mask Mandates
(Nashville, TN) — A Metro Councilmember is still urging health officials to issue an indoor mask mandate despite her bill not being heard at last night’s meeting. Joy Styles spoke after Tuesday’s meeting where her bill on masks was tabled because it was filed too late to make the agenda. Styles said politics is taking front stage to public safety, and the city is repeating the same pandemic mistakes it made last year. Styles said she would re-file her legislation in time to be discussed at the next Council meeting on September 7th.
Family Of Man Who Died At Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row Bar Looking For Answers
(Nashville, TN) — The family of a man who died while being detained by security at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row bar is looking for answers in his death. Tammy Barrett spoke yesterday about circumstances leading to the death of her son, 22-year-old Dallas Barrett, at the bar on Monday night. Police are investigating the incident where Barrett died after being unruly at the bar and becoming unresponsive while being restrained by security. Mrs. Barrett said her son worked at BoomBozz in East Nashville and was a hunter, angler, and aspiring rapper.
FBI Launching Campaign To Raise Awareness Of Hate Crimes In Nashville
(Nashville, TN) — A new campaign by the FBI and the U.S. Attorney General’s Office is being launched to help report hate crimes in Tennessee. FBI Special Agent Richard Baer said yesterday that 117 hate crimes were committed in the state in 2019, and those numbers nationally are trending upward. Assistant U.S. Attorney Sara Beth Myers added that victims of hate crime might not feel comfortable reporting because they don’t know who to contact. The FBI says they have launched a new hotline at 1-800-CALL-FBI to assist those who feel targeted because of race, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, or disability.
CDC And FDA Issue Recall For Frozen Shrimp Sold At Kroger And Whole Foods
(Nashville, TN) — The CDC and FDA are issuing a nationwide recall for frozen shrimp because of possible salmonella contamination. On Tuesday, the agencies sent out an alert not to eat, serve, or sell the recalled frozen cooked shrimp manufactured by Avanti Frozen Foods of India distributed from November 2020 to May 2021. The recalled shrimp were sold under multiple names, including 365, Chicken of the Sea, Meijer, Nature’s Promise, Sea Cove, and WFNO Brands.
