RACERS UPSET #16 SEMO
Preston Rice scored the go-ahead touchdown with 3:42 remaining as Murray State upset #16th-ranked Southeast Missouri 24-21 in Sunday afternoon football in Cape Girardeau. The Racers built a 17-7 halftime lead on a Rice to Rodney Castille touchdown strike, a pick-six from Marcis Floyd, and a 34-year field goal by Aaron Baum. But the Redhawks rallied in the fourth quarter with a pair of touchdowns for a 21-17 lead. But the Racers answered with a seven-play drive, highlighted by a Rice to DaQuan Dallas conversion on 4th and 6, to set up the game winning score. Racers running back Damonta Witherspoon led the rushing attack with 108 yards on 22 carries. The 2-0 Racers are at Tennessee Tech this Sunday. Tonight, we will talk about the games on Hey Coach, beginning at 6 on FROGGY.

HOGS COMPLETE SWEEP OF RACERS
After scoring six runs in each of the previous two games, the Murray State baseball team was shutout 6-0 yesterday by top-ranked Arkansas as the 10-0 Razorbacks completed the three game series sweep. The 5-6 Racers had runners on base in every inning except one but were unable to push any runs across. MSU plays at Louisville in a 2 pm game tomorrow.

GOVS SWEEP RACER VOLLEYBALL
The Murray State volleyball team dropped a tight opening match against 7-2 Austin Peay, falling in four sets last night in Clarksville. The scores were 23-25, 19-25, 18-25, and 22-25. Jayla Holcombe led the Racers with 20 kills while Becca Fernandez collected a team high 24 digs. The Racers return home next Sunday and Monday to host Eastern Illinois.

RACER SOFTBALL TAKES SERIES AT UTM
Murray State softball swept a Saturday twinbill at UT Martin, earning 3-0 and 10-3 to take two of three in the series. Taylor Markowsky tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings to get the win in game 1, with Logan Braundmeier adding a solo homer. In the second game, Lindsey Carroll drove in three runs with three hits in support of Hannah James who notched the win with five innings of 1-run relief. The 5-12 Racers improve to 2-1 in the OVC as they prepare to host Eastern Kentucky in a three game weekend series.

RACER SOCCER RALLIES PAST EKU
Murray State soccer edged Eastern Kentucky 3-2 on Friday in the Racers home opener. Chloe Barnthouse, Rebecca Kubin, and Hailey Cole scored goals for the Racers, who improved to 2-0 heading into tomorrow night’s contest at UT Martin.

TURLEY MAKES ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM AS RACERS FALL IN SEMIS
The Racer women’s basketball team saw it’s season end with a 67-49 semifinal loss to Belmont on Friday at the OVC Tournament in Evansville. MSU was outscored 26-12 in the decisive third quarter. Macey Turley and Katelyn Young each scored 11 to lead the Racers, and Turley was named to the All-Tournament team. The Racers end the season with a record of 16-11.

LAKERS SPLIT SATURDAY GAMES
In high school basketball games on Saturday, Skylar Waller scored 25 points to lead the Calloway County girls to a 61-44 win over Whitesville Trinity, while the Laker boys fell 62-52 at Marshall County despite a 28-point night from Evan Garrison. The Lady Lakers end the regular season 17-5, while the Laker boys take a 7-11 record into Saturday’s 4th District Tournament. Calloway’s boys and girls will face Murray High in the opening round of the tournament at The CFSB Center. The Murray girls are 8-8 with the Tiger boys are 13-7.

CATS EARN 8 SEED IN SEC TOURNAMENT
The Kentucky men’s basketball team will play Mississippi State on Thursday in the SEC Tournament after finishing the season 8-9 in league play. Game time is set for 11 am central at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. The Cats locked up the No. 8 seed on Saturday with a 92-64 home victory over South Carolina. The winner of the UK-MSU matchup will get top-seeded Alabama on Friday at 11 am.

SEC TOURNEY BEGINS WEDNESDAY IN NASHVILLE
The SEC Basketball Tournament in Nashville tips off Wednesday with Vanderbilt and Texas A&M. The winner for face Florida on Thursday. Other second-round games Thursday pit Mississippi State versus Kentucky, Georgia against Missouri and South Carolina meeting Ole Miss. Alabama, Arkansas, LSU, and Tennessee are the top four seeds and drew a bye into Thursday’s quarterfinals.

LOUISVILLE AWAITS DUKE-BC WINNER IN ACC TOURNEY
Louisville lost to ACC regular-season champ Virginia 68-58 at home. The Cardinals enter the conference tournament as the seventh seed with an 8-and-5 league ledger. Louisville will play the winner of tomorrow’s game between Duke and Boston College in the second round on Wednesday.

MOREHEAD MEN, BELMONT WOMEN CLAIM OVC TOURNEY TITLES
On Saturday, top seed Belmont lost to number 2 seed Morehead State 86-71 in the Ohio Valley Conference championship game, but second seeded Belmont claimed the women’s title with an 83-75 win over UT Martin.

AREA HOCKEY ROUNDUP
Filip Forsberg and Roman Josi scored in the shootout in the Predators’ 4-3 win over the Stars in Dallas. The Predators take a 11-14-and-0 record into tomorrow night’s game at Carolina. The St. Louis Blues are at the Sharks tonight.

CARDINALS DOWN ASTROS
Tyler O’Neill drilled a three-run homer in the Cardinals 8-5 win over the Astros in Jupiter, Florida. Austin Dean added a two-run double for St. Louis. The Cards host the Marlins today in a game that airs at 11:55 this morning on WNBS AM and FM.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 35 points to lead Team LeBron to a 170-150 win over Team Durant in the NBA All-Star Game in Atlanta. He shot 16-of-16 from the field to take home MVP honors. Bradley Beal led Team Durant with 26 points.

Steph Curry is this season’s NBA 3-Point champion. The Warriors’ star won the annual competition before Sunday’s All-Star Game in Atlanta. The Pacers’ Domantas Sabonis won the Skills Challenge and the Trail Blazers’ Anfernee Simons won the Slam Dunk Contest.

The Brooklyn Nets are adding forward Blake Griffin for the stretch run. His agent tells ESPN the 31-year-old free agent has agreed to a deal with the Nets for the rest of the season. Griffin agreed to a buyout with the Detroit Pistons on Friday, then cleared waivers on Sunday.

Kyle Larson won the Pennzoil 400 in Las Vegas. He picked up his first win since being suspended for using a racial slur during an e-sports game in 2020. Brad Keselowski finished second and Kyle Busch third. Denny Hamlin and Ryan Blaney rounded out the top-five.

Bryson DeChambeau shot a final-round, one-under 71 to win the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in Orlando. He finished the four-day event at 11-under par, one stroke ahead of Lee Westwood. Corey Conners was third at eight-under. Three others finished at minus-six.
