
Murray State University police chief Jeff Gentry has announced his retirement. The announcement came via a social media post on Monday. Gentry’s last day as chief was last Friday. Gentry was named chief in 2021 after being named interim chief in 2020. He also worked with the Murray State Police Department for 20 years before becoming chief.
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet will host a public information meeting this evening in Marshall County. The meeting-which deals with the widening and improvement of US 62 between Kentucky 95 and Lone Valley Road-will take place between 5:30 and 7:30 at the Calvert City Civic Center.
The McCracken County Sheriff’s Department arrested a Farley man Monday on theft charges. West Kentucky Star.com reports 31-year-old Goby Anderson is accused of making personal purchases totaling $31 thousand on two credit cards for a company he worked for over a five month period. The investigation had been going on since December.
Following a month long break, the Kentucky General Assembly reconvenes today in Frankfort. Lawmakers are expected to vote on a number of high button topics, including a measure to lower the state’s income tax rate from four and one half to four percent. Other measures expected to be up for a vote include abolishing the death penalty, which would call for prisoners sentenced to death to serve life terms in jail and a measure to legalize medicinal marijuana.
Tennessee governor Bill Lee delivered his State of the State address Monday in Nashville. Lee addressed several issues including traffic, education and abortion issues. He said on the latter issue “pro life is much more than defending the lives of the unborn.” Lee claimed it’s “not a matter of politics” and is instead “about human dignity.”
