
A Murray teen died in a single vehicle traffic accident Wednesday night in Graves County. The Graves County Sheriff’s Department reports 17-year-old Elexis F. Williams died in the mishap on Kentucky 464 near Deward Road. Investigators say the vehicle was discovered off the roadway and partially overturned. They believe Williams missed a curve and struck a tree.
Unemployment in the Purchase region in November was at four percent. Calloway County’s rate was just a tick above the region’s average at 4.1 percent. The lowest figure was in Carlisle County at 3.4 percent while the high rate was at 4.5 percent in Fulton County. The statewide November unemployment figure was at 3.7 percent.
A National Weather Service survey team says an EF0 tornado touched down in Christian County during Tuesday’s stormy weather. WHOP Radio reports the 50 yard tornado produced 85 mile per hour winds and touched down around 4:30 am about two miles south-southwest of Hopkinsville and stayed on the ground for about a mile.
The tornado damaged an attached cinder block garage on Cox Mill Road and also produced minor damage to that home’s roof. The tornado also snapped numerous large tree limbs and tossed a large carport in a wooded area near Woodmont Drive.
You might remember Rascal Flatts lead signer Gary LeVox was scheduled to visit Mayfield last fall but postponed at the last minute. LeVox will now make that trip next Tuesday, January 10th. He will visit Sav A Lot from 3-4:30 pm and will recognize two charities in a 4 pm ceremony.
The first birth of the New Year at Murray-Calloway County Hospital occurred earlier this week. According to a news release, Waylon Clinard was born on Monday at 11 pm. He weighed six pounds and 20 pounces and was 20 inches. Waylon’s parents are Frank Clinard and Madelynn Edmonson of Murray.
