Marshall County Schools announced Tuesday they have cancelled classes for this week.  The cancellation is due to damage caused by frozen pipes and five of the district’s schools.  According to a social media post from the district, all staff are still expected to report for regular work days as clean up and repairs continue.  Students are expected to resume classes Monday, January 9th.

Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron announced Tuesday he will seek the Republican nomination for governor.  Cameron is one of several GOP candidates seeking to run against incumbent Democrat Andy Beshear this fall.

State representative Richard Heath announced plans Tuesday to run for Kentucky agriculture commissioner.  Heath said his reasons for running are his agricultural roots and service in state government.  He represents Graves and a portion of McCracken County.

A Madisonville Burger King is destroyed after a lightning strike.  The strike caused the building to go up in flames just after midnight yesterday morning.  Crews from several departments battled the fire and were happy to report no one was injured.  The interior damage is substantial and the restaurant is being considered a total loss.

Kentucky US Senator Mitch McConnell yesterday celebrated the beginning of his record-17th year as leader in the Senate.  He broke the record set by Democrat Mike Mansfield who served in the position for 16 years while representing Montana.  McConnell referred to his role as leader as the second greatest honor of his career, saying representing Kentucky is still at the top of the list.
