A disturbance call in Mayfield late Sunday night netted authorities more than seven thousand pills and 15 pounds of marijuana along with a large amount of cash.  The Graves County Sheriff’s Department reports 36-year-old Brandon Cavette of Mayfield was arrested after authorities executed a search warrant at the residence.  Over four thousand ecstacy pills, three thousand Xanax pills were among the items discovered.  Cavette was taken to an undisclosed detention facility.

The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department reports a new phone scam.  Investigators say thieves are claiming to be from West Kentucky Rural Electric or Jackson Purchase Rural Electric telling residents their electricity will be turned off if the utility bill is not paid within 10 minutes of the call.  The caller is then given a number to call and a hold is placed on the disconnect with payment to be made from cards either from Walmart or CVS Drugs.  If you receive a call, please call and report it to your electric utility.

A new legislative session starts today in Frankfort.  Kentucky’s General Assembly will meet at the Capitol from today through Friday before adjourning and reconvening next month.  Issues like medical marijuana and sports gambling could be discussed.  Governor Andy Beshear is also urging state lawmakers to do more to resolve the commonwealth’s teacher shortage.
