
There’s new information concerning a November house fire in Lyon County. West Kentucky Star.com reports the juvenile charged in the case has had his charges increased. New information indicates arson charges against the juvenile as investigators say the fire was intentionally set. The fire destroyed a home in the southern end of Lyon County November 30th. At the time, the juvenile was also charged with solicitation fo commit an assault and theft of a firearm.
Eastbound Interstate 24 in Trigg County was shut down for a time near the 59 mile marker Wednesday morning due to a semi catching on fire. WKDZ Radio reported the tractor trailer was fully engulfed in flames when firemen arrived. The truck was hauling canned goods and no injuries were reported.
Several schools in the Marshall County system received damage during the recent winter weather. West Kentucky Star.com reports a school spokesperson as saying Benton Elementary and Central Elementary received the most damage from burst pipes. Marshall County High, North Marshall Middle and South Marshall Middle also had some damage, but it was reported to be minimal. Classes are set to resume January 4th, but a decision on whether they can meet the scheduled resumption will be made Friday.
The head of the Oak Grove Tourism Commission has been named as the president of the Kentucky Association of Conventions and Visitors Bureau for 2023. Traci Cunningham has served as the president at Oak Grove since 2004.
A group of Kentucky moms is fighting for medical marijuana. The group is known as “Kentucky Moms for Medical Cannabis” and was outside the State Capitol yesterday to urge lawmakers to take action. They installed a display with photos of people who need medical marijuana for various conditions. They were visited by Governor Andy Beshear whose loosened restrictions on the medical use of the drug come into effect on New Year’s Day. Beshear again voiced his support for the measure yesterday and said it would help people with conditions like PTSD, epilepsy and anxiety.
Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams says if you want to change party affiliations before the 2023 elections, you must do so by Saturday.
