On the one year anniversary of the deadly tornadoes in Western Kentucky, Governor Beshear made a visit to the region Saturday.  He first stopped in Dawson Springs, where he took part in the dedication of a new home built by Habitat for Humanity which was turned over to a local family.

The governor also made stops in Marshall County and Mayfield.  During his stop in Mayfield.  Beshear thanked all first responders and local residents for rescuing people from collapsed buildings.

A Fort Campbell soldier was convicted last Wednesday in connection with the 2018 death of his estranged wife.  33-year-old Victor Everette Silvers of Clarksville was found guilty of first degree murder, violation of a protective order and other charges in the death of Brittney Niecol Silvers.  Final sentencing is scheduled for February 22nd.

A 16-year-old Lyon County juvenile has been charged in connection with a house fire November 30th and attempting to solicit two others to shoot family members. WKDZ Radio reports the juvenile is charged with two counts of solicitation to commit assault, one count of theft of a firearm and one count of arson.  The juvenile was taken to a detention facility in Bowling Green.

Murray State University held its fall and winter commencement ceremonies Saturday at the CFSB Center.  716 degree applicants from 26 states and 11 countries received diplomas.

Three members of Murray City Council took part in their final meeting last Thursday.  Dan Miller, Burton Young and Pat Seiber all decided not to run for re-election.  It was emotional for Miller, who served 30 years on the council.  Miller said in a story in the Murray Ledger and Times it was an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of Murray.

The council also voted to approve the Parks Commission’s recommendation to allow Field 7 at Chestnut Park to be used by the Murray Pickleball Association for its activities.
