
The Murray State Racers concluded play in the Myrtle Beach Invitational Sunday downing Tulsa 77-60 in the third place game. The Racers were led in scoring by Jamari Smith with 19 points while Kenny White, Jr. added 16.
Jacobi Wood nearly had a triple double with 12 points, eight rebounds and 11 assists. DJ Burns had a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds. The Racers are now 3-2 on the season and return to action Saturday night at Chattanooga.
Elsewhere in college hoops Sunday, fourth ranked Kentucky lost at second ranked Gonzaga 88-72. The Wildcats welcome North Florida to Rupp Arena Wednesday.
Action this evening includes Louisville meeting 9th ranked Arkansas at the Maui Invitational and Bellarmine-a future Murray State opponent-visits 7th ranked Duke.
College Volleyball: Murray State began play in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament in Evansville last night. The Racers lost to Valparaiso three sets to none by the scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 26-24. Murray State concludes the season 12-17.
Racer standout Federica Nuccio was named to the Missouri Valley Conference All Freshman team.
College Football: The University of Tennessee has lost starting quarterback Hendon Hooker for the remainder of the season. The Heisman candidate tore the ACL in the Vols 62-38 loss to South Carolina Saturday. The Vols are ranked 9th in the Associated Press poll and 11th in the USA Today Coaches poll as they meet Vanderbilt Saturday.
Kentucky coach Mark Stoops is staying in Lexington. Stoops recently signed a new deal which will keep him through 2031. The contract extension sees his salary increase to nine million dollars per year. News of the extension broke over the weekend but reports suggest Stoops signed the deal November 11th.
