
It’s mid-term Election Day in Kentucky and across the nation. There are a number of races in the city of Murray and Calloway County. Some of the races include Calloway County Sheriff, the mayoral race in Murray and selection of members for Murray’s City Council along with two amendments on the ballot.
One of them deals with allowing Kentucky legislators to meet in sessions for 30 days in odd number years and the other is a hot button topic dealing with the future of abortion access in the Commonwealth.
The Lyon County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the recent thefts of catalytic converters. So far, six converters have been taken from vehicles located on Kentucky 93north of Kuttawa between US 62 and Panther Creek Road. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department.
A two county pursuit led to the arrest of a Hickman County woman early Monday morning in Bardwell. The Ballard County Sheriff’s Department says 39-year-old Michelle McCutchen was stopped in Wickliffe, but she reportedly refused to give an ID or exit the vehicle. Deputies reported smelling a strong odor of alcohol in the vehicle.
McCutchen drove off and led officers on a pursuit into Bardwell which ended when her vehicle hit a utility pole. She was jailed on numerous charges including possession of a controlled substance, DUI, fleeing or evading police and wanton endangerment.
Crittenden County is the latest to lift its burn ban. According to the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet’s website, only Fulton and Hickman counties have not lifted local burn bans.
All of Kentucky still has a statewide outdoor burn ban until December 15th. Even with the recent rains, the region is still seeing extreme drought conditions and officials urge those who do burn to be careful around still dry vegetation and crops.
Governor Andy Beshear will be making stops in several western Kentucky counties today. The governor is stopping in Ohio County to break ground on a new distillery. He will then be in the Muhlenberg County city of Bremen for a community dinner. Beshear will finish off the day in Henderson County to announce funding for various projects in the surrounding area.
Monday’s high-anticipated Powerball drawing is being delayed due to technical issues. Officials say a participating lottery needed extra time to complete the required security protocols. Winning numbers will be posted as soon as they are available. The jackpot is a record one-point-nine billion dollars.
