NEWS

An elevated fire warning remains in effect through today as dry conditions continue throughout the region.  There is relief on the way as rain is forecast for tomorrow.

Meanwhile, fire crews were kept busy over the weekend responding to grass fires in Calloway, Graves and McCracken counties according to West Kentucky Star.com.

Two people were arrested Friday near Farmington on animal cruelty charges.  Graves County Sheriff’s Department investigators say Charles Rodgers and Jennifer Vaughn are accused of 38 counts of second degree cruelty to animals after dogs were found to be malnourished on the property located on Kentucky 1124.

Foul play is not suspected in the death of a man, whose body was found in Kentucky Lake near Johnathon Creek Friday morning.  The Marshall County Sheriff’s Department reports 50-year-old James Collins had been camping in the area.  Investigators are awaiting the results of an autopsy.

Calloway County will be receiving a new accounting and payroll software system.  During its recent meeting, Calloway Fiscal Court accepted a bid of over 44-thousand dollars from Fiscalsoft Corporation for the new system.

SPORTS

HS Volleyball:   1st Region quarterfinal action begins this evening at Marshall County with McCracken County meeting Fulton County at 5:15 followed by Graves County and Christian Fellowship.  Quarterfinal action concludes tomorrow night with the semifinals Wednesday night and the final set for Thursday night.

College Football:   Murray State coach Dean Hood’s Hey Coach show will be recorded at noon today at the Big Apple Bar and Grill and be replayed this evening at 6 on Froggy 103.7.  The Racers celebrate Homecoming against Tennessee State Saturday at 2, with pregame at 1:30 also on Froggy 103.7.

College Soccer:   Murray State’s women were edged 1-0 by Drake in the final regular season match Sunday on the road.  The same teams will meet again in the opening round of the Missouri Valley Conference tournament Thursday at a time yet to be announced in Des Moines, Iowa.

College Volleyball:  Murray State swept a pair of home matches this weekend, defeating Bradley Friday night and Illinois State on Saturday.  The Racers are on the road this week visiting Northern Iowa on Friday night and Drake on Saturday.  The Racers are 9-12 overall and 5-6 in Missouri Valley Conference play.

NFL:   The Tennessee Titans were a 19-10 victor over the Indianapolis Colts yesterday at Nissan Stadium.  Andrew Adams returned an interception 76 yards for a touchdown and the Titans defense forced the Colts into three turnovers.  Tennessee is now 4-2 on the season and swept Indianapolis in regular season play for the second straight season.  The Titans are back in action next Sunday at  the Houston Texans.

NBA:  Ja Morant and the 2-1 Memphis Grizzlies are back in action this evening hosting the Brooklyn Nets in the Fed Ex Forum.  Tipoff is at 7.
