A new license plate option is coming to Kentucky. Governor Andy Beshear gave his weekly “Team Kentucky” update in Frankfort yesterday and announced the new plate will be available on October 24th. The license plate will have the phrase “Team Kentucky” on its left-hand side and Beshear says it’s a chance to show unity and demonstrate that Kentucky is stronger together.

Kentucky is taking part in Operation Crash Reduction to increase safety on the highways by promoting seat belt usage and safe driving tactics. tate and local authorities are teaming up to encourage seat belt use with increased visibility and enforcement through October 10th. The hope is to reduce crashes and prevent injuries this weekend.

Tennessee is the third worst state in the country for violent crime. That’s according to new data from the FBI which ranks states by crimes like murders, robberies and assaults committed per 100-thousand people. Only Alaska and New Mexico are above Tennessee on the list. Bordering states Arkansas and Missouri are fourth and sixth respectively. Tennessee’s violent crime rate is at 673 incidents per 100-thousand people.

The first frost of the winter could come to West Kentucky this weekend. The National Weather Service in Paducah says temperatures could dip below 32 degrees on Saturday night and Sunday morning around the area. Counties from Fulton to Daviess are expected to be impacted and residents are advised outdoor vegetation could be damaged.

SPORTS

Both Calloway County and Murray High are in high school football action this evening. The Lakers are in action at Hopkins Central with pregame at 630 on WBZB, while the Tigers celebrate Homecoming hosting Ballard Memorial with pregame at 6:30 on WNBS.

Murray State is in OVC football action tomorrow afternoon hosting UT Martin at 2 in Roy Stewart Stadium, with pregame coverage at 1:30 on Froggy 103.7. Other action tomorrow includes 13th ranked Kentucky hosting South Carolina, eighth raanked Tennessee at 23rd ranked LSU and Louisville visits Virginia.

The St. Louis Cardinals open their NL Wild Card series with the Philadelphia Phillies this afternoon at Busch Stadium. Pregame for the 1:07 first pitch airs at noon on WNBS.

Albert Pujols nearly ended his chase for 700 career home runs prematurely. The Cardinals slugger says that he seriously considered retiring in June after a slow start to 2022. He was hitting just .198 with four home runs at the time. However, he says he made adjustments to the way he held the bat which helped him return to prime form and surpass the 700-homer mark.

The Nashville Predators begin their NHL regular season this afternoon when they take on the San Jose Sharks in Prague  Czech Republic .
