Murray State Meets Long Time Rival Middle Tennessee

The Murray State Racers (6-1) host the Middle Tennessee Blue Raiders in a Saturday 7 p.m. tip at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky, where the Racers have won four straight games. It’s Coach Cal Luther Day as fans remember the Racer great coach and director of athletics who served Murray State University from 1958 to 1974. That game can be heard on Froggy 103.7.

Local High School Basketball Round-up

The Lady Tigers lose to the Trigg Co Wildcats 38-29 last night. Alyssa Daughrity led with 11 points and 11 rebounds, Madilyn Howell and Makira Bomar had 6 each. The Lady Tigers play Massac Co tomorrow at 7, that game can be heard on WNBS. The Murray High boys are at the Marshall Co Hoopfest this weekend, there 1st game is tomorrow morning against Robertson, game time set for 9am, you can heard that game on WNBS.

Calloway boys play at Trinity tonight, tip at 7:30, you can hear that game on WBZB, and the Lady Lakers host Trinity tomorrow at home at home, gametime set for 4:30 on WBZB.

Grizzlies Set NBA Record, Crushing Oklahoma City(Memphis, TN)  —  NBA history is being made in Memphis.  The Grizzlies blew out the Oklahoma City Thunder, 152-79, last night at FedExForum.  The 73-point margin is the largest in league history.  The previous largest margin-of-victory was 68 set on December 17th, 1991, when the Cleveland Cavaliers beat the Miami Heat 148-80.

Blues Doubled Up In Tampa(Tampa, FL)  —  The Blues battled back to tie the game twice only to fall 4-2 to the Lightning in Tampa. The Blues visit the Florida Panthers tomorrow.

Titans On A Bye

(Nashville, TN)  —  The Titans are getting a much-needed bye week.  Tennessee enters the bye at 8-and-4, but has lost its last two games.  The Titans host the Jaguars next week.Predators Shut Out By Bruins(Nashville, TN)  —  It was not a great night for the Predators on home ice.  The Preds lost to the Bruins 2-0 in Nashville.  Nashville hosts the Montreal Canadiens tomorrow night.

UofL On The Road Against ACC Opponent(Raleigh, NC)  —  The UofL basketball team will try to bounce back from its second loss of the season tomorrow afternoon.  The Cardinals dropped to 5-and-2 this season in a loss to Michigan State in East Lansing on Wednesday night.  The Cards will face North Carolina State in Raleigh at 2 o’clock.

Vols Hoping To Extend Winning Streak On The Road(Boulder, CO)  —  The UT basketball team will try to extend its winning streak on the road tomorrow afternoon.  The Volunteers will face the Colorado Buffaloes in Boulder.  The Vols have won three straight games.  The game is set for 2 o’clock.

Cowboys Defeat Saints On Thursday Night Football

(New Orleans, LA)  —  The Cowboys are snapping their two-game losing skid in primetime.  Dallas defeated the Saints 27-17 on Thursday Night Football in New Orleans.  Dak Prescott threw for 238 yards, a touchdown and an interception in the victory.  Tony Pollard sparked the offense in the second half with his 58-yard touchdown run.  The Cowboys forced four turnovers to improve to 8-and-4.  Taysom Hill struggled in his first start of the season at QB, completing 19-of-41 passes and finishing with four picks.  New Orleans drops to 5-and-7.

LeBron James Cleared To Return After Multiple Negative COVID Tests

(Los Angeles, CA)  —  The Los Angeles Lakers are welcoming back Lebron James quicker than expected. James entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols and was expected to miss several games after a positive COVID-19 test.  According to the Athletic, he has since registered negative multiple times.  He will return Friday when the Lakers play the Clippers.

Mendenhall To Step Down As Virginia’s Football Coach

(Charlottesville, VA)  —  The Virginia Cavaliers will have to find a new football coach.  Bronco Mendenhall announced Thursday that he will step down as the Cavaliers head coach after the team’s bowl game.  The 55-year-old Mendenhall said it was his choice to leave.  Virginia went 36-and-38 in Mendenhall’s six seasons and won the ACC Coastal Division championship in 2019, leading to an Orange Bowl appearance.  The Cavaliers went 6-and-6 in 2021.

Suns Break Franchise Record With 18th Straight Win

(Phoenix, AZ)  —  The Phoenix Suns are rewriting the record book.  Cam Johnson and Cam Payne scored 19 points apiece off the bench as the Suns rolled past the Pistons 114-103, earning their franchise-record 18th straight win.  The Suns surpassed the previous mark of 17 in-a-row by the 2006-07 team.  The Suns go for 19 in-a-row on Friday against the Warriors in San Francisco.

Antonio Brown And Mike Edwards Suspended For Misrepresenting Vaccination Status

(Tampa Bay, FL) — The NFL is suspending Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Antonio Brown and safety Mike Edwards for misrepresenting their vaccination status. Both will be suspended without pay for three games. Brown had previously been accused of obtaining a fake COVID vaccination card by his former live in-chef.

Huskers QB Adrian Martinez Enters Transfer Portal

(Lincoln, NE)  —  One of the most prolific offensive players in Nebraska football history is likely on the move.  Huskers quarterback Adrian Martinez has entered the transfer portal.  Martinez made 38 starts in four seasons at Nebraska and hold program records in total offense, completions, and 250-yard passing games.  He served as a team captain over the last three seasons and is listed as a graduate transfer in the portal.

Lincoln Riley Flips Another Commitment For USC

(Los Angeles, CA)  —  Lincoln Riley is flipping another recruit to his new team.  The recently hired USC head coach landed the talents of four-star running back Raleek Brown on Thursday.  Brown had originally committed to play at Oklahoma, but will instead follow Riley and play for the Trojans.  ESPN ranks the 5-foot-7 back as the 60th overall prospect from the class of 2022.  Brown, who plays at Mater Dei High School in Santa Ana, said Riley leaving the Sooners changed “everything”.

Zion Hits Setback In Return From Foot Injury

(Metairie, LA)  —  Zion Williamson is hitting a setback in his much-anticipated return to the hardwood.  The Pelicans announced the forward is dealing with soreness in his surgically repaired right foot.  That has put a delay on his return to participate in a full team practice.  Williamson had most recently started 4-on-4 full court work, but New Orleans will be cautious and limit his workload.  The most recent set of imaging on his foot showed no additional damage.

Three Tied Atop Hero World Challenge After Round One

(New Providence, Bahamas)  —  The first round of the Hero World Challenge at Albany Golf Club in the Bahamas has wrapped up and three players are tied for first-place.  Rory McIlroy, Daniel Berger, and Abraham Ancer lead the field by one stroke after shooting a 66 in round one.  Justin Thomas, Brooks Koepka, and Webb Simpson are in a three-way tie for fourth-place at five-under par.  Viktor Hovland, Collin Morikawa, Tony Finau, and Patrick Reed are tied for seventh at four-under.
