In men’s basketball, a cold shooting night was costly as Murray State fell 66-58 to East Tennessee yesterday in the opening round of the Naples Invitational in Florida.  The Racers show 42% from the field, but only 1-16 from three-point range and a dismal 11 of 23 from the charity stripe, frustrating head coach Matt McMahon…(SB). After trailing by 16 points with 9:30 remaining, the Racers cut the lead to 61-57 with 1:36 left, but could get no closer. KJ Williams led the 3-1 Racers with 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Tevin Brown added 12 points and Trae Hannibal 10. The Racers face Long Beach State in a consolation bracket game at 1:30 this afternoon, with airtime set for 1 pm on FROGGY 103.7.

The Murray State women’s basketball team wraps up a two-game road trip today when it travels the road to Itta Benna to take on Mississippi Valley State. Murray State is 3-1, while the Delta Devils come in at 0-2. You can hear the game this morning at 10:30 on WNBS AM and FM.

Number-13 Kentucky took down Albany 86-61 in Lexington.

 

Jaren Jackson Jr. Hits Late Three To Beat Utah

(Salt Lake City, UT)  —  Jaren Jackson Jr. drilled a three-pointer with 5-point-7 seconds left in the Grizzlies win over the Jazz.  Jackson’s late three was the difference in the Grizzlies’ 119-118 win over the Jazz in Salt Lake City.  Jackson finished with 26 points, Ja Morant scored 32 points and Desmond Bane added 28 points.  Memphis hosts the Toronto Raptors tomorrow night.

Trenin’s Goal Sends Preds Past Ducks

(Nashville, TN)  —  Yakov Trenin scored a go-ahead goal with under eight minutes left in regulation during Nashville’s 3-2 home win over Anaheim.  Ryan Johansen opened the scoring in the first period to give Nashville a 1-0 lead, and Mikael Granlund put the Predators out in front for a second time with his fourth goal of the season.  The Preds snap a two-game losing streak with the win.  Nashville hosts the Vegas Golden Knights tomorrow night.

Blues Surge Past Golden Knights

(St. Louis, MO) —  The Blues overcame an early 2-0 deficit by scoring five unanswered goals in a 5-2 win over the Vegas Golden Knights at the Enterprise Center.  Justin Faulk had a goal and an assist for St. Louis, which has won two of three.  Ryan O’Reilly, Tyler Bozak, Brandon Saad, and Niko Mikkola also found the back of the net and Jordan Binnington made 32 saves in the victory.  The Blues visit the Red Wings tomorrow night.

Vols 17th In Latest Coaches Basketball Poll

(Undated)  —  The Tennessee basketball team remains 17th in the latest coaches poll.  The Volunteers suffered their first loss of the season last week to Villanova.  However, the Vols bounced back the next day to beat North Carolina.  They’ll next play on Friday afternoon against Tennessee Tech at Thompson-Boling Arena.

Nashville SC Starts Playoffs Tonight

(Nashville, TN)  —  The playoffs are here for Nashville SC.  Nashville hosts Orlando City SC tonight in the first round of the MLS playoffs.  Nashville is the three seed in the Eastern Conference and Orlando comes into the playoffs as the sixth seed.

 

 

Nashville Working To Bring WNBA Team To Tennessee

(Nashville, TN)  —  A professional women’s basketball team could be coming to Tennessee.  Nashville’s Sports Authority is working on a proposal for a WNBA expansion team.  The league says it’s not currently planning to expand.  However, the league’s commissioner says it could be willing to start having a conversation about expanding next year.
