Titans Survive Saints Comeback Attempt

(Nashville, TN)  —  The Titans stopped a game-tying two-point conversion attempt in the final minutes to escape with a win over the Saints.  Despite being outgained by over 100 yards, Tennessee defeated New Orleans 23-21 in Nashville.  Ryan Tannehill guided the Titans’ offense with 213 passing yards and two total touchdowns, and found Marcus Johnson five times for 100 yards.  Jeffery Simmons dominated with two sacks, two tackles for loss and a pass defensed for Tennessee, which improved to 8-and-2.  Trevor Siemian did not look like a backup as he threw for 298 yards and two touchdowns. 

Racers Down Bellarmine – Tevin Brown Scores 27

 The Murray State Racers met the Bellarmine Knights for the first time Saturday and came away with a 78-59 victory to push their home win streak to three in a row at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.

 Tevin Brown hit six 3-point baskets and finished the game with 27 points and added six rebounds and three assists. Trae Hannibal scored 12 points off the bench and Justice Hill and KJ Williams each added 10 points to key the Racer attack that hit 52 percent from the field on 28-of-54.

 The next challenge for the Racers is Tuesday (Nov. 16) when they take to the road for the first time this season for a game at Illinois State in Normal, Ill.

 

Tigers Football Season Comes to an End

The Murray Tigers Football season came to an end on Friday night with a 55-6 loss to Mayfield in the district championship game. Murray High finishes the season at 8-3

 

Big Week Earns Williams Weekly Offensive Accolade

Quarterback DJ Williams was a two-way threat Saturday and his performance helped him earn his second OVC Offensive Player of the Week accolade, the league announced Sunday.

DJ Williams rushed for over 100 yards and passed for nearly 200 Saturday in the Racers win over Southeast Missouri. Williams threw for 175 yards in the game including the ninth longest pass in school history at 73 yards. On the grounds, Williams ran for 121 yards including a huge 58-yard run for a touchdown in the first quarter. Williams scored again in the second on a one-yard run and led scoring drives of 65, 83, 61 and 71 yards on the day.

On Saturday, Murray State will travel to Eastern Illinois next week attempting to clinch back-to-back winning seasons for just the third time since 1999. Kickoff from O’Brien Field in Charleston is scheduled for Noon.

Volleyball Closes Out Regular Season On Four-Game Winning Streak

The Murray State Racers closed out the 2021 regular season on a four-game  winning streak, beating the SIU-Edwardsville Cougars in five sets for the second time in as many  days, on Saturday afternoon at First Community Arena in  Edwardsville, Illinois.  

The Racers will be the #5 seed in the OVC Tournament, finishing conference play with an 11-7  record. They will face #4 seed UT Martin on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. Cape  Girardeau, Southeast Missouri plays host as the #1 seed.

Blues Fall To Oilers

(St. Louis, MO) —  The Blues gave up the game winning goal with 28 seconds left in the third period in a 5-4 loss to the Edmonton Oilers at Enterprise Center.  Jordan Kyrou, Robert Bortuzzo, Ivan Barbashev, and Vladimir Tarasenko all scored for St. Louis, which has lost three straight.  The Blues host the Coyotes tomorrow night.

Arenado, Cards Win NL Platinum Defensive Awards

(St. Louis, MO) —  Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado continues to be the premiere defensive player in the National League.  Arenado was awarded Friday with the NL Platinum Glove, given to the top overall defensive player in the league.  It’s his fifth consecutive year capturing the hardware.  As a team, the Cards were recognized with the overall NL Team Defensive Award after setting a single-season record with five Gold Glove winners in 2021. 

 

Mahomes, Chiefs Wallop Raiders On SNF


(Las Vegas, NV)  —  Patrick Mahomes looked like vintage Patrick Mahomes in the Chiefs big win over the Raiders.  Mahomes tossed five touchdown passes in Kansas City’s 41-14 win over the Raiders in Las Vegas.  DeSean Jackson had a costly fumble in the third quarter for Las Vegas in his only catch of the game.  Hunter Renfrow and Bryan Edwards each caught touchdowns for the Raiders, who dropped to 5-and-4.

Cam Newton Returns, Panthers Roll Over Cardinals

(Glendale, AZ)  —  Cam Newton is back.  The Panthers quarterback made the most of his minimum snaps as Carolina blasted the Cardinals 34-10 in Glendale.  Newton ran for a touchdown then threw for a touchdown to pace Carolina to a 14-0 lead.  The Panthers improve to 5-and-5.  Colt McCoy threw an interception before leaving with a chest injury for Arizona.  The Cardinals were once again without Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins.  Arizona drops to 8-and-2.

Washington Football Team Upsets Buccaneers

(Landover, MD)  —  An upset was on the menu in Landover.   Taylor Heinicke served up 256 passing yards and a touchdown as Washington defeated the Buccaneers 29-19 at home.  Antonio Gibson rushed for two touchdowns for Washington.  The Football Team lost star pass rusher Chase Young to a knee injury during the game.  Washington is 3-and-6.  Tom Brady threw two touchdowns and two picks in the loss for the Buccaneers.  Mike Evans and Cameron Brate caught TD’s for Tampa Bay, which falls to 6-and-3.

NFL Roundup

(Undated)  —  Elsewhere around the NFL, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers shut out the Seahawks 17-0 in Green Bay.  The Cowboys blasted the Falcons 43-3 in Arlington.  The Patriots crushed the Browns 45-7 in Foxborough, and the Steelers and Lions played to a 16-16 tie.

Rams And 49ers Square Off On Monday Night Football

(Santa Clara, CA) — Matthew Stafford and the Rams are in the Bay Area to take on the 49ers in a Monday Night showdown. Los Angeles comes off its second loss of the season and sits at 7-and-2.  Stafford threw a season-high two picks in the loss to the Titans, but now has a new receiver in the form of Odell Beckham Jr. It has been hard sailing for San Francisco, which has lost five of its last six.  The offense did get a boost last weekend with the return of star tight end George Kittle, who had 101 yards and a TD.

Washington Huskies Fire Jimmy Lake

(Seattle, WA)  —  The Jimmy Lake era is over at the University of Washington.  U-dub fired Lake on Sunday.  Assistant head coach Bob Gregory will be the interim head coach for the rest of the season.  U-dub athletic director Jen Cohen said in a press conference, “This change is necessary for a variety of reasons, both on the field and off.”  This comes after Lake was seen shoving a player on the sidelines in Washington’s game against Oregon earlier this month.  Lake leaves U-dub with a 7-6 record as head coach.

Auburn’s Nix Out Final Two Games Of Season

(Auburn, AL)  —  Auburn will be without its star quarterback for the final two games of the season.  According to ESPN, Nix will miss the rest of the regular season after having surgery on his ankle.  Nix will miss the Tigers’ upcoming games against South Carolina and Alabama.  Auburn is 6-and-4 on the season.

Jason Kokrak Wins Houston Open

(Houston, TX)  —  Jason Kokrak [[ COKE-rack ]] is taking home a title at the Houston Open.  Kokrak rallied, making four straight birdies in Round Four to secure the victory.  The 36-year-old shot 5-under on Sunday to give him a win at 10-under for the tournament.  Kevin Tway and Scottie Scheffler tied for second, with both shooting 8-under.  Kramer Hickok finished a shot behind to finish fourth.

USMNT Visits Jamaica Tuesday For World Cup Qualifier

(Jamaica) — The US Men’s National Team is in Kingston as they’re set to face Jamaica on Tuesday at Independence Park. Team USA jumped to the top spot on Friday following a 2-nil victory over Mexico and moved to 14-points. The team will have to face Jamaica without midfielder Weston McKennie and center back Miles Robinson. McKennie received a yellow card in the previous match, giving him two in the 14-match competition and Robinson was ejected following a red card.
