RACERS TRAVEL TO RED HOT TSU
Murray State football will look to bounce back from a 47-6 Homecoming loss to Austin Peay when the Racers travel to Nissan Stadium in Nashville to battle Tennessee State. Heisman Trophy winner Eddie George is the new head coach at TSU which has three in a row after a 1-3 start to the season. The Tigers blanked Eastern Illinois last week for their first Division 1 shutout in 8 years. Racer head coach Dean Hood knows his defense must find a way to limit the effectiveness of quarterback Geremy Hickbottom and running back Devon Starling, and offensively, be more productive in the running game. Airtime for tomorrow’s 5 pm game is set for 4:30 on Froggy 103.7.

SATURDAY’S COLLEGE FOOTBALL SLATE
In other games tomorrow, #12 Kentucky is at Mississippi State, Louisville visits North Carolina State, Charlotte is at WKU, Southern Miss visits Middle Tennessee, SIU is at Northern Iowa, Austin Peay visits UT Martin, and Eastern Illinois plays at SEMO. Tennessee is on a bye week.

LAKERS END THE SEASON WITH LOSS AT UNION COUNTY
Calloway County played close early, but 3A Union County scored two late first half touchdowns and went on to a 48-22 win last night in Morganfield. The Lakers scores came on a five-yard touchdown pass from Kanyon Franklin to Drew Hudgin late in the first half, a Jonathan Durham five yard run early in the fourth quarter, and an 11 yard run by Franklin in the closing minute. The 4th-ranked Braves improved to 9-1. The loss eliminates Calloway County from 4A playoff contention, as the Lakers end the season on a four game losing streak and a record of 3-7.

MURRAY HIGH FINISHES REGULAR SEASON AT FULTON COUNTY
Coming off a 25-21 upset of 3rd-ranked Mayfield last week, Murray High will look to continue momentum into next week’s playoffs and clinch a tiebreaker for a first round home game when they visit Fulton County. The Tigers enter the game with a 6-2 record, while Fulton County comes in at 1-8, but according to Murray coach Darren Bowling, the Pilots have plenty of size up front that could cause issues. Airtime for tonight’s 7 pm game is at 6 on WNBS AM and FM.

MORANT LEADS MEMPHIS PAST GOLDEN STATE
Ja Morant scored 30 points to lead the Grizzlies to a 104-101 overtime win over the Warriors in San Francisco. Steph Curry led Golden State with 36 points, but failed to score in the fourth quarter and overtime. The Grizzlies host the Miami Heat tomorrow night.

AREA HOCKEY ROUNDUP
On the ice, thje Blues fell 4-3 to the Colorado Avalanche at Enterprise Center for their first loss of the season. The Blues host the Blackhawks tomorrow night. The Nashville Predators host the New York Islanders tomorrow afternoon.

MSU TO HOST OVC SOCCER TOURNAMENT GAME TODAY
The OVC Soccer Tournament begins today with a pair of opening round games. Today in Murray, Tennessee Tech faces Eastern Illinois at 2 pm, with the winner meeting Murray State at 1 pm Sunday at Cutchin Field. Morehead battles SEMO tonight at 6 in Nashville, with the winner taking on Belmont. The semifinals will be one week from today at top seed UT Martin.

RACER VOLLEYBALL AT BELMONT
The Murray State volleyball team is at Belmont for matches tonight at 6 and tomorrow at 2 pm at the Curb Event Center. The Racers are 12-9 and enter tonight on a four game winning streak.

OVC CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIP IS SATURDAY
The Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Championship will be run on Saturday at the Vaughn’s Creek Cross Country Course at Percy Warner Park in Nashville. The men’s 8K race will begin at 9 am with the women’s 5K following at 10 am.

UK GETS RECEIVER COMMIT
Douglass receiver Dane Key is committing to the University of Kentucky. The four-star recruit has been sought after since his sophomore season. Key has led Douglass in receiving for three straight years with a total of 105 catches for more than 17-hundred yards and 26 touchdowns. Key chose Kentucky over South Carolina, Michigan, and Oregon.

TITANS AT COLTS ON SUNDAY
Tennessee squares off with the Colts in Indianapolis on Sunday. Derrick Henry leads the Titans with an NFL-best 869 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns through seven games.

NASHVILLE SC TRAVELS TO FLORIDA
Nashville SC is back in action this weekend. Nashville plays Orlando City SC on Sunday in Orlando. Nashville is second in the MLS Eastern Conference with 52 points.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
The Packers took over the top spot in the NFC after a Thursday Night Football thriller in the desert. Kyler Murray’s second interception of the night in the end zone sealed it as Green Bay escaped Arizona with a 24-21 win over the Cardinals. The Cards were the last unbeaten team in the NFL until the loss, falling to 7-and-1. The Packers are now first in the NFC at 7-and-1 via the tiebreaker.

The Braves host the Astros in Game Three of the World Series tonight. Ian Anderson will start for the Braves, who host a World Series game for the first time since 1999. Luis Garcia starts for Houston. The series is tied at one win apiece.

Several historic college football rivalries will be renewed this weekend. The Paul Bunyan Trophy is up for grabs as sixth-ranked Michigan squares off with seventh-ranked Michigan State in East Lansing. Elsewhere, 10th-ranked Iowa travels to Wisconsin to play for the Heartland Trophy. Other marquee matchups on Saturday include top-ranked Georgia facing Florida in Jacksonville, ninth-ranked Ole Miss is at number-21 Auburn, and fifth-ranked Ohio State plays host to 17th-ranked Penn State.

Joel Quenneville resigned as head coach of the Florida Panthers. The team announced Quenneville has resigned and that an interim head coach will later be named. Quenneville came under scrutiny when the investigation into the Blackhawks abuse case found that he was aware of Chicago video coach Brad Aldrich sexually assaulted a player in 2010 and did nothing about it.

Dak Prescott remains questionable to play as he recovers from a right calf strain he suffered in Week Six. The Cowboys quarterback says he has “gotten better each and every day” but the decision ultimately comes down to his coaches and team trainers. Prescott has been limited to team walk throughs during this week’s practices as Cooper Rush has handled first-team reps.

Bob Melvin has agreed to a three-year contract to become the next manager of the San Diego Padres according to reports. The A’s had allowed Melvin to interview for the job despite the franchise picking up his 2022 option, according to ESPN. He will replace Jayce Tingler, who was fired earlier this month after San Diego missed the playoffs.

Brandon Hagy and Chad Ramey are atop the leaderboard at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship in Southampton Parish. Hagy and Ramey each shot a 65 to make them six-under after the first round was suspended. Vincent Whaley occupies third place at five-under par.

It’s the final opportunity for NASCAR’s best to punch their ticket to the championship four on Sunday. NASCAR’s Cup Series heads to Martinsville for the Xfinity 500. Kyle Larson is the only driver to make his way into the final four at Phoenix so far. Larson starts on the pole. Teammate Chase Elliott will join him up front.
