BARNTHOUSE CLINCHES SENIOR DAY WIN WITH GOLDEN GOAL
A golden goal from Chloe Barnthouse in the 95th minute gave Murray State soccer a 1-0 overtime victory over Austin Peay yesterday afternoon in the regular season finale at Cutchin Field. Following the match, Murray State honored their seven seniors. The fourth-seeded Racers will host a first round matchup between Tennessee Tech and Eastern Illinois on Friday, with the winner playing the Racers on Sunday at Cutchin Field.

GOVS LEAVE RACERS AT STARTING GATE
Ahmaad Tanner rushed for 148 yards and three touchdowns as Austin Peay ruined Murray State’s homecoming game with a 47-6 win over the Racers. For MSU, DJ Williams connected on 18 of 31 passes for 140 yards with one interception, and also led the Racers in rushing with 75 yards on 12 carries. Murray State is back in action at 5 pm Saturday at Tennessee State. We will talk about the games tonight on Froggy with Dean Hood, and preview Racer basketball as well on Hey Coach at 6:30, live from the Big Apple Grill and Bar.

LOUISVILLE WINS; VOLS FALL TO BAMA
In other college football on Saturday, Louisville defeated Boston College 28-14 at Cardinal Stadium, Western Kentucky went on the road and beat Florida International 34-19, Tennessee lost to number-3 Alabama 52-24 in Tuscaloosa, Vanderbilt lost to Mississippi State 45-6 in Nashville and Memphis lost to UCF 24-7 in Orlando. Kentucky had a bye week.

RACER VOLLEYBALL CONTINUES HOT STREAK
The Murray State Racers volleyball team swept Tennessee State on Friday, pushing its winning streak to four, while improving to 12-9 overall and 6-5 in the OVC. The Racers are at Belmont this Friday and Saturday.

TIGERS UPSET #3 MAYFIELD; LAKERS BLANKED BY COUGARS
In high school football on Friday, Murray High scored twice in the closing minutes to come away with a 25-21 win at unbeaten Mayfield. The 6-2 Tigers close out the regular season this Friday at 1-8 Fulton County. Calloway County’s losing streak reached three with a 47-0 defeat at the hands of Logan County. The 3-6 Lakers will not make the playoffs, and will finish this season this Friday night at 8-1 Union County.

REGION 1 VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT BEGINS
The Region 1 Volleyball Tournament gets underway tonight at Ballard Memorial with two first round matches. McCracken County faces Graves County at 5:30, followed by Carlisle County and Christian Fellowship at 7:30.

TITANS ROLL CHIEFS
The Tennessee Titans thumped the Kansas City Chiefs 27-3 yesterday at Nissan Stadium for their third straight win. The Titans improved to 5-and-2 and will face the Colts in Indianapolis on Halloween.

MORANT’S 40 NOT ENOUGH VS LAKERS
Ja Morant scored 40 points in the Grizzlies 121-118 loss to the Lakers in Los Angeles. Despite his big game, Morant missed a game-tying free throw with 2.5 seconds left. Memphis heads up to Oregon to play the Blazers on Wednesday night.

AREA HOCKEY ROUNDUP
The Nashville Predators scored three first period goals in their 5-2 win over the Minnesota Wild in St. Paul. Nashville hosts the San Jose Sharks tomorrow night. The St. Louis Blues look to remain perfect tonight when they face Kings at the Enterprise Center.

REPORT: CARDINALS TO HIRE MARMOL
The Cardinals are reportedly expected to name current bench coach Oliver Marmol as the 51st manager in team history today. The 35-year old will be the youngest manager in the Majors.

NASHVILLE SC LOSES
Nashville SC lost a tough road game to the Philadelphia Union on Saturday night. Nashville had just one shot on goal in a 1-0 defeat to Philadelphia. Nashville SC is third in the MLS Eastern Conference standings with 49 points.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
The new-look Saints head to Seattle to play the Geno Smith-led Seahawks on Monday Night Football. With Russell Wilson and Chris Carson on the IR for Seattle, the 2-and-4 Seahawks will have to move the ball with Smith and running back Alex Collins. The 3-and-2 Saints should be well-rested after their bye in Week Six.

Supporters of NBA star Kyrie Irving are protesting the benched point guard by swarming past barricades outside the Nets’ home opener. NBC New York reports the protesters pushed past the arena’s metal barriers while security guards struggled to keep them from entering on Sunday. Those in the crowd could be seen in a video posted to social media wearing “stand with Kyrie” shirts and chanting “no more mandate,” in reference to the Big Apple’s vaccine requirement.

Hideki Matsuyama is celebrating a victory at the Zozo Championship. The 29-year-old shot a 65 in the final round of the tournament. Matsuyama finished atop the leaderboard after shooting 15-under for the tournament. Brendan Steele and Cameron Tringale finished tied for second place five shots back of Matsuyama.

Kyle Larson is making it three straight. Larson won his third consecutive race as he took home the checkered flag at the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway. Chase Elliott finished second. Kevin Harvick, Kurt Busch, and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five.
