Racers Fall to First Place Skyhawks

In a Battle of OVC Rivals UT-Martin wins 2-1 Over Murray St.

The Murray State Women’s Soccer team fell to UT-Martin 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at Skyhawk Field in Martin, Tennessee.

The defeat snaps the Racers two-game winning streak in which they defeated Morehead State and SIUE. Murray State moves to 8-7 overall and 3-3 in OVC play.

Tennessee Tech is next on the schedule for the Racers with the contest coming on Thursday (Oct. 21) in Cookeville, Tennessee.

Baum finished game-winning drive with FG as time expires

 The Murray State football team drove 47-yards in one minute and seven seconds to set up a 35-yard field goal from Aaron Baum as time expired to give the Racers a 32-31 win over Southeast Missouri Saturday at Houck Field in Cape Girardeau.

 

Fun For All – Murray Bank Racer Mania Set For Oct. 28  

Murray State Basketball fans are invited to be part of Racer Mania, presented by The Murray Bank, Thursday (Oct. 28) at the CFSB Center in Murray, Ky.

This annual event gives fans of all ages a first look at the Racer men’s and women’s basketball teams. The arena doors open at 6 p.m. and admission is FREE. The fun starts at 6:30 p.m.

Blues Play in Desert Tonight.  

The Blues visit the Coyotes tonight in Arizona.  St. Louis held on for a 5-3 victory in their season opener on Saturday against the Colorado Avalanche.  The Blues went 3-4-and-1 against the Coyotes last season.

Titans Host Bills On Monday Night Football

(Nashville, TN)  —  Two of the top offenses in the NFL hook up on Monday Night Football as the Bills battle the Titans in Nashville.  The Bills roll in riding a four-game winning streak, which includes a stunning 38-20 win over the Chiefs last Sunday.  Buffalo has outscored its opponents 156-41 during the four-game winning streak with two shutouts.  The Titans are 10th in both categories, putting up 26.4-points a contest and more than 389 yards per game.  The Titans enter the tilt at 3-and-2 after cruising past the Jaguars 37-19 last weekend in Jacksonville.  Tennessee sits atop the AFC South, currently two games ahead of both Houston and Indianapolis.  The Titans won the most recent matchup 42-16 last year at home.

Vols, Wildcats And Commodores Lose Over The Weekend.

(Undated)  —  It was another wild weekend of college football in Tennessee and Kentucky, particularly in Knoxville.  Number-12 Ole Miss beat the Vols 31-26 at Neyland Stadium in a game that featured some UT fans throwing garbage on the field.  Number-14 Kentucky is unbeaten no more after losing 30-13 to the number-1 Georgia Bulldogs in Athens, Georgia.  Vanderbilt lost a heartbreaker to South Carolina on the road 21-20 and Western Kentucky beat Old Dominion 43-20.

Predators Fall To Hurricanes

(Nashville, TN)  —  The Predators are still winless after they lost to the Hurricanes 3-2 in Nashville on Saturday.  Ryan Johansen and Filip Forsberg scored for Nashville, but two third-period goals from Carolina were too much for the Preds to overcome.  Nashville hosts the Los Angeles Kings tomorrow night.

Grizzlies Start Season On Wednesday

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Grizzlies regular season is almost here!  Memphis hosts the Cleveland Cavaliers in their regular-season opener on Wednesday night.  The Grizzlies finished 38-and-34 last season and lost in the first round to the Utah Jazz.

Steelers Eke Past Seahawks On SNF

(Pittsburgh, PA)  —  T.J. Watt was wreaking havoc in the Steelers 23-20 overtime win over the Seahawks in Pittsburgh.  Watt had two sacks in overtime, one that pushed Seattle out of field goal range and another that caused Geno Smith to fumble deep in Seahawks territory.  That fumble led to a game-winning 37-yard field goal from Chris Boswell.   Pittsburgh improved to 3-and-3 while Seattle dropped to 2-and-4.

Deja Vu: Braves Walk Off Dodgers In Game Two

(Cumberland, GA)  —  For a second straight night, the Braves are walking off with a win in the NLCS.  Eddie Rosario hit a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to help the Braves beat the Dodgers 5-4 in Game Two.  Atlanta takes a 2-0 series lead as it got a walk-off victory in back-to-back games.

Chicago Sky Win First-Ever WNBA Championship

(Chicago, IL)  —  The Windy City is celebrating its first-ever WNBA Championship.  The Chicago Sky stormed back in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Phoenix Mercury 26-11 to rally for an 80-74 win in Game Four of the WNBA Finals.  Allie Quigley dropped in 26 points and Candace Parker added 16 to go with 13 rebounds as the Sky won the best-of-five series three-games-to-one.

Orgeron, LSU To Part Ways After Season

(Baton Rouge, LA)  —  The LSU Tigers will have a new football coach in 2022.  Athletic director Scott Woodward says the university and Ed Orgeron have reached an agreement to part ways at the end of the 2021 campaign.  Woodward says the football program needs to go in a new direction.  The 60-year-old Orgeron led LSU to a National Championship win in 2019.  However, the Tigers have gone a combined 9-and-8 in the last two seasons.

Astros, Red Sox Meet In Game Three Of ALCS

(Boston, MA)  —  The ALCS continues tonight as the Astros and Red Sox meet in Boston for Game Three.  After Houston won the series opener, Boston stormed back to even the series with a 9-5 win in Game Two.  The Red Sox turn to lefty Eduardo Rodriguez on the mound.  Opposite him will be right-hander Jose Urquidy for Houston.

Cowboys Late Comeback Stuns Patriots

(Foxboro, MA)  —  The Cowboys spoiled the Patriots first home win with a come-from-behind 35-29 overtime victory in Foxboro.  Greg Zuerlein made a 49-yard field goal in the final minute to tie the game, and CeeDee Lamb caught a 35-yard touchdown pass for the win.  Dak Prescott threw for 445 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.  Lamb caught nine balls for 149 yards and two touchdowns.  Dallas improves to 5-and-1 with the win, while New England falls to 2-and-4.

MLB To Mandate Teams Provide Housing For Minor Leaguers

(New York, NY)  —  Major League Baseball will require teams to provide housing for its minor league players starting next year.  The plan has yet to be finalized, but ESPN reports multiple team officials say they are preparing to help lodge players at their four minor league affiliates.

Jaguars Snap 20-Game Losing Streak With Win Over Dolphins

(London, England)  —  Matthew Wright nailed a 53-yard field goal as time expired to give the Jaguars a 23-20 win over the Dolphins in London.  Wright also hit a 54-yard field goal to tie the game with 3:40 to go.  Trevor Lawrence passed for 319 yards and a touchdown.  The Jaguars won their first game since week one of 2020, snapping a 20-game skid.

Rory McIlroy Wins The CJ Cup

(Las Vegas, NV)  —  Rory McIlroy is leaving Las Vegas as the winner of the CJ Cup.  McIlroy shot a 66 in the final round to finish the tournament at 25-under par.  Collin Morikawa finished one stroke behind McIlroy for second place at 24-under.  Rickie Fowler shot a 71 on the final day and finished tied for third with Keith Mitchell at 22-under.

Kyle Larson Wins NASCAR At Texas

(Fort Worth, TX)  —  Kyler Larson is in the championship four.  Larson made it back-to-back wins as he won the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. With the win, Larson will be in the final four drivers in the championship race in Phoenix.  William Byron finished the race in second.  Christopher Bell, Brad Keselowski, and Kevin Harvick rounded out the top five.
