RACER SOCCER EDGES SIUE
Hailey Cole scored two goals and assisted on a third to lead Murray State Soccer to a 3-2 victory over SIUE yesterday at Cutchin Field. The victory pushes the Racers to 8-6 on the year and 3-2 in OVC action heading into Sunday’s game at UT Martin.

RACER FOOTBALL AT SEMO IN NON-CONFERENCE CONTEST
After falling in the OVC opener last week against 17th-ranked UT Martin, Murray State closes out non-conference play tomorrow at conference opponent Southeast Missouri. The teams will meet in Murray next month for the OVC game between the schools. The Redhawks feature rushing leader Geno Hess, but a team that gives up more points than any team in the OVC at nearly 36 per game. Last week, backup quarterback DJ Williams saw extensive action for the Racers, throwing MSU’s only touchdown pass through five games. Airtime for tomorrow’s 2 pm game is set for 1:30 on FROGGY 103.7.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL WEEKEND PREVIEW
In other OVC games tomorrow, UT Martin visits Eastern Illinois, and Tennessee Tech is at Tennessee State. Elsewhere, 11th-ranked Kentucky visits #1 Georgia, 13th-ranked Ole Miss is at Tennessee, WKU visits Old Dominion, North Dakota is at SIU, and Louisville is on a bye week. Last night, it was Memphis over Navy 35-17.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEW
In high school football, 5-1 Murray High hosts 5-3 Caldwell County in a 2A battle of Tigers on homecoming night. Murray High has put up over 1100 yards of total offense over the past two weeks, but will get a stiff test tonight according to head coach Darren Bowling. Airtime for the 7 pm game is set for 6 on WNBS AM and FM. 3-4 Calloway County will look to shake off last week’s loss in the closing seconds when they begin a three-game road trip at Hopkinsville. The 3-5 Tigers are led by Treyvon Jefferson at quarterback, and Laker head coach Chris Champion says he will be looking to get it to his All-State receiver. Airtime for the 7 pm game is set for 6:30 on 104.5 WBZB.

SHILDT FIRED
The St. Louis Cardinals are parting ways with their manager. The team let Mike Shildt go after he had just finished his fourth season with the team. The Cardinals lost in the National League Wild Card Game to the Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this month. Shildt had taken the Cardinals to the playoffs in three out of four seasons as manager. The team’s President cited “philosophical differences” in the decision to part ways with Shildt.

PREDS LOSE OPENER
On the ice, the Nashville Predators fell to the Kraken 4-3 in Nashville, which was Seattle’s first win in franchise history. Nashville fell behind 2-1 after the first period and was never able to retake the lead. Nashville hosts the Carolina Hurricanes tomorrow night.

MEMPHIS WRAPS UP PRESEASON AT CHICAGO
The Grizzlies regular season is one day closer. Memphis wraps up the preseason tonight on the road against the Chicago Bulls. The Grizzlies host the Cleveland Cavaliers in their regular-season opener on Wednesday night.

TITANS HOST BILLS MONDAY
Two of the top offenses in the NFL hook up on Monday Night Football as the Bills battle the Titans in Nashville. The Bills roll in riding a four-game winning streak, which includes a stunning 38-20 win over the Chiefs last Sunday. The Titans enter the tilt at 3-and-2 after cruising past the Jaguars 37-19 last weekend in Jacksonville. Tennessee sits atop the AFC South, currently two games ahead of both Houston and Indianapolis. The Titans won the most recent matchup 42-16 last year at home.

NASHVILLE AT DC SATURDAY
Nashville SC is back in action this weekend. Nashville plays DC United in the nation’s capital tomorrow night. Nashville is second in the MLS Eastern Conference standings with 47 points, while DC United is fifth with 40 points.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
The Dodgers are moving on to the NLCS. Cody Bellinger drove in the go-ahead run to lift Los Angeles to a 2-1 win over the Giants in Game Five of the NLDS in San Francisco. The Dodgers will face the Braves in the next round. On Friday, the ALCS begins as the Red Sox visit the Astros in Houston. Framber Valdez starts for Houston, while Chris Sale starts for Boston.

The Buccaneers improved to 5-and-1 with a big primetime win. Tampa Bay raced out to a 21-7 halftime lead and held on to beat the Eagles 28-22 in Philly. Tom Brady led the team to victory with 297 passing yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Leonard Fournette chipped in with 81 rushing yards and two scores. Jalen Hurts showed his youth by completing 12-of-26 passes including a pick, but finished with three total touchdowns to keep the Eagles in the game.

More information regarding the 650-thousand emails collected in the NFL’s investigation of the Washington Football Team is being revealed. NFL general counsel Jeff Pash and former Washington Football Team executive Bruce Allen appear to have had a close relationship according to emails. Topics in the emails ranged from racial and ethnic diversity to player safety, and the elimination of a fine that was handed to the Football Team by the league. Pash and Allen also discussed allegations of sexual harassment by Washington executives against the team’s cheerleaders.

SEC action highlights the slate of games for Week Seven of the college football season. Top-ranked Georgia will play host to 11th-ranked Kentucky. Elsewhere down south, Auburn visits 19th-ranked Arkansas. After last week’s loss, fifth-ranked Alabama is at Mississippi State. 12th-ranked Oklahoma State will hit the road to take on Texas. Out west, 22nd-ranked Arizona State visits Utah.

Robert Streb is leading the way at the CJ Cup. Streb shot a 61 in round one for a one stroke lead over Keith Mitchell. Harry Higgs is in third place at eight under par. Sergio Garcia, Viktor Hovland, and Hudson Swafford are in a three-way tie for fourth place at seven under. Defending champion Jason Kokrak is alone in last place at five over par.

NASCAR’s Cup Series rolls into Texas for the Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 500 on Sunday. The Round of eight will work toward becoming the round of four as one lucky driver could punch a ticket to the final round. Kyle Larson is coming off a big win last week at the Roval. He starts this week up front alongside Denny Hamlin.
