Dillon Brooks will miss the start of the Grizzlies regular season as he continues to recover from a broken left hand. Brooks will be re-evaluated in two-to-three weeks after he received additional treatment to the hand. Memphis continues preseason play tonight on the road against the Indiana Pacers.

TITANS MAKE MOVES
It was a busy day at the Titans facility yesterday. Tennessee placed punter Brett Kern on the COVID-19 reserve list and placed offensive tackle Ty Sambrailo on the retired list. The Titans also signed linebacker Avery Williamson off the Broncos practice squad. Williamson spent the first four years of his career with Tennessee from 2014 to 2017.

PREDS PREP FOR OPENER
Preds hockey is one day closer to coming back. Nashville hosts the Seattle Kraken tomorrow night. That game will be shown on the NHL Network. The Kraken lost their first-ever game 4-3 to the Golden Knights last night in Las Vegas.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
The ALCS is set and the NLCS is halfway there. The Astros punched their ticket to a fifth-straight ALCS as they defeated the White Sox 10-1 in Game Four in Chicago. Houston will meet the Boston Red Sox for the AL Pennant. In the National League, the Braves are moving on to the NLCS for the second straight year after defeating Brewers 5-4 at home. Atlanta awaits the winner of the Dodgers and Giants, which will go to a Game Five Thursday night after Los Angeles defeated San Francisco 7-2.

The reverberations of the NFL’s investigation into the Washington Football Team will likely continue. On Tuesday, the NFL Players Association said that it will request the NFL to release the remainder of the 650-thousand emails involved in the league’s investigation into Washington. Leaked emails from the investigation showed former Raiders head coach Jon Gruden using racist, misogynistic and homophobic remarks in emails, many of which went to Bruce Allen, the former team president of the Washington Football Team.

The Kraken are opening up franchise history with a tough loss in Las Vegas. The Golden Knights edged the Kraken 4-3 in Seattle’s first regular season game. Seattle rallied from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game at 3-3. Chandler Stephenson deflected the go-ahead goal off his skate to give Vegas the lead in the third. Ryan Donato scored the first goal in franchise history for Seattle.

The two-time defending Stanley Cup champs were unable to keep up with the Penguins in a 6-2 Pittsburgh win over the Lightning to open the season in Tampa. Danton Heinen scored the first goal 12-seconds into the second period in his first game as a Penguin. Pittsburgh held onto a 3-1 lead in the third period before adding three empty-netters to close out the game. Alex Killorn and Anthony Cirelli both scored for the Lightning.

The Nets say they have no choice but to keep Kyrie Irving away from the team. Irving is unable to participate in home games due to New York City’s vaccine mandate. Brooklyn has decided that the team was not going to have the guard as a part-time player. General manager Sean Marks confirmed the decision was made with everyone in the organization aware of the situation. The Nets close out their preseason tomorrow against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are ejecting Jon Gruden from their ring of honor. The team released a statement Tuesday saying Gruden’s actions go against their “core values as an organization.” It comes after a series of emails revealed repeated homophobic and misogynistic comments from Gruden. The Buccaneers won a Super Bowl with Gruden as their head coach back in 2003. Gruden resigned as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders Monday after the report about his emails surfaced.
