Local Football Round-up

Week two of district play has arrived for both local football teams. Calloway County closes out the home schedule against Hopkins County Central in a 7 pm game. Laker head coach Chris Champion says his team must find a way to limit quarterback Adrian Stringer and his brother at wide receiver, Christian Stringer. Airtime for tonight’s game is at 6:30 on 103.4 WBZB.

Murray High travels to Ballard Memorial for a 7:30 game after a running clock win last week against Fort Campbell. Airtime tonight is at 6:30 on WNBS AM and FM.

Murray State opens conference play at 2 pm tomorrow at 21st ranked UT Martin. The Skyhawks have been the surprise team in the OVC this season, thanks in part to transfer quarterback Keon Howard. Airtime for tomorrow’s game is set for 1:30 on Froggy 103.7

White Sox Fall To Astros In Game One Of ALDS

(Houston, TX)  —  Lance Lynn struggled as the White Sox fell 6-1 to the Astros in game one of the ALDS in Houston.  Lynn surrendered five runs over three-and-two-thirds to take the loss.  Jose Abreu drove in the lone run for Chicago.  Lucas Giolito takes the mound for the White Sox in game two this afternoon against the Astros’ Framber Valdez.

Blues Host Blue Jackets In Preseason Finale

(St. Louis, MO) —  The Blues wrap up the preseason tonight at home against the Columbus Blue Jackets.  St. Louis has lost three straight preseason contests entering tonight’s matchup at Enterprise Center.  The regular season will begin with a three-game road trip that opens October 16th against the Colorado Avalanche.

Titans Face Off With Jaguars

(Jacksonville, FL)  —  The oh-and-4 Jaguars will be looking for their first win when the Titans come to Jacksonville on Sunday.  The Jaguars are dealing with some controversy after head coach Urban Meyer was filmed dancing with a young woman right after Jacksonville’s loss to Cincinnati last week.  Number-one-overall pick Trevor Lawrence has shown flashes with five touchdowns and a rushing score, but also has seven interceptions.  The Titans may be 2-and-2, but boast the NFL’s leading rusher in Derrick Henry and the league’s 10th-ranked offense.  Tennessee’s defense has been okay to this point in the season, and Harold Landry and Ola Adeniyi each have 2-and-a-half sacks.

More Than A Dozen Ex-NBA Players Charged In Health Fraud Scheme

(New York, NY)  —  Former Grizzlies forward Tony Allen is one of 18 former NBA players indicted for allegedly being involved in a health insurance fraud scheme.  Audrey Strauss, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, says authorities used travel records, email and GPS data to break up the scheme.  Strauss said the scheme started back in 2017, with former New Jersey Nets player Terrence Williams acting as the ring leader.  She adds if Williams didn’t get kickbacks from other players involved, he’d try to scare them by impersonating an employee from the insurance plan.

SEC Action Heats Up Once Again

(Undated)  —  This weekend has some big SEC matchups.  14th-ranked Kentucky hosts LSU tomorrow night and Tennessee will sport its black uniforms when it hosts South Carolina tomorrow.  Vanderbilt has a tough test at number-18 Florida, Louisville has a big ACC matchup against Virginia, Middle Tennessee plays Liberty on the road, Memphis travels to play Tulsa, and Western Kentucky hosts UTSA.
