Cards Season Ends With Walk-Off Loss To Dodgers In NL Wild Card Game

(Los Angeles, CA) —  The Cardinals season is over following a heartbreaking walk-off loss to the Dodgers in the National League Wild Card Game at Dodger Stadium.  Chris Taylor drilled a two-run homer off Alex Reyes in the bottom of the ninth to secure the win for LA.  T.J. McFarland was tagged with the loss.  Adam Wainwright did his part for St. Louis, allowing just one-run on four-hits over five-and-a-third innings.  Tommy Edman scored the Cards lone run in the first on a Max Scherzer wild pitch.

Grizzlies Play Hornets Tonight

(Charlotte, NC)  —  The Grizzlies continue the preseason tonight.  Memphis plays the Hornets tonight in Charlotte.  The team is still expected to be without forward Dillon Brooks.  Ja Morant scored 27 points in the Grizzlies’ 87-77 win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday.

Racers finish 26-6 in Nashville

This past weekend, Murray State Women’s Tennis competed in the Belmont Invitational in Nashville, Tennessee, going 26-6 overall at the event. The Racers are a combined 68-21 on the fall, good for a .764 winning percentage.

Murray State will be back in action for their final fall event on October 29-30 when they host the MSU Invitational at the Bennie Purcell Tennis Courts in Murray, Kentucky.

 

Racers Travel to Nashville for Bout with Belmont

Murray State Women’s Soccer will hit the road on Thursday (OCT. 7) for another OVC matchup at 6:30 pm against Belmont at Rose Park in Nashville, Tennessee. The Racers hope to improve upon their 1-1 OVC record when they take on the Bruins in the matchup.

The match will be the 14th all-time between the schools with Murray State leading the series 7-6, winning the last match 3-1 at Cutchin Field in March of this year. Murray State looks to bounce back after falling to Eastern Illinois 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.

 

Panthers Trade For Stephon Gilmore

(Charlotte, NC)  —  The Panthers are acquiring one of the better defensive backs in the NFL.  Carolina traded a 2023 sixth-round pick to the New England Patriots for Stephon Gilmore.  The 31-year-old Gilmore skipped New England’s mandatory minicamp in June because of his displeasure with his contract.

NFL Viewership Up 17 Percent

(Undated)  —  The NFL is seeing a rise in viewership through the first four weeks of the season.  With an average of 17.3 million viewers per game, viewership has climbed 17 percent from last season’s numbers.  That marks highest average through four weeks since 2015.

NBA Won’t Randomly Test For Marijuana

(Undated)  —  The NBA will not randomly test its players for marijuana this season.  The news came from a players’ association memo that was later obtained by ESPN.  The NBA will still test for performance enhancing drugs and “drugs of abuse.”

Padres Fire Manager Jayce Tingler

(San Diego, CA)  —  The San Diego Padres are firing their manager.  The team let Jayce Tingler go, but also announced he has been given a chance to continue working with the organization.  Tingler was named manager in October 2019 and led the team to the National League Division Series last season.

Urban Meyer Says He Never Considered Resigning Following Viral Video

(Jacksonville, FL)  —  Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer says he never thought about resigning after the video of him at his Ohio bar went viral this weekend.  Team owner Shad Khan said in a statement Meyer’s conduct was “inexcusable” and that he must “regain our trust and respect.”  Jacksonville hosts Tennessee on Sunday.

Sharks Forward Being Investigated For Fake Vax Card

(San Jose, CA)  —  The NHL is investigating claims Evander Kane with the San Jose Sharks used a fake COVID vaccine card.  Front Office Sports reports using a fake vaccination card is illegal in both the U.S. and Canada and is punishable by up to 750-thousand dollars in fines and up to six months in prison.  The Sharks wrap up the preseason at home against the rival Golden Knights on Saturday.

WNBA Roundup

(Undated) — The Sky are heading to the WNBA finals after knocking out the Connecticut Sun with a 79-69 win in Chicago.  The Aces tied their semifinal series with the Mercury after a 93-76 win in Phoenix.  A winner take-all Game Five is set for tomorrow night.

First Round Of Shriners Children’s Open

(Las Vegas, NV)  —  The Shriners Children’s Open tees off today.  The tournament is being played at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas.  The day begins with Cameron Tringale, Aaron Wise, and Adam Schenk among those teeing off in the first group.

Report: MLB Plans To Mandate Vaccine For Minor Leaguers

(Undated)  —  The MLB is closing in on a monumental decision for its minor leaguers.  Yahoo Sports reports the MLB is finalizing a policy to mandate the COVID-19 vaccine for its minor-league players.  While the players association that can block requiring vaccination, the minor leagues are not included in the big league union.
