RACERS RETURN FROM BYE WEEK TO HOST EIU
Murray State football returns to action tomorrow wheo the Racers host Eastern Illinois in a 4 pm Family Weekend game. In an unusual twist, Murray State will battle Eastern Illinois three times in a calendar year. The 2021 season OVC contest will take place in Charleston on November 20, but the 2020 season game between the teams was actually played on March 28th due to COVID, and the 17th-ranked Racers fought back from a 14-point third quarter deficit to score 28 unanswered points in a 42-27 at Stewart Stadium. Airtime for Saturday’s game is set for 3:30 on FROGGY 103.7.

COLLEGE FOOTBALL LINEUP
In other games Saturday, Kentucky hosts number-9 Florida, Louisville will face Wake Forest in Winston-Salem, Tennessee is at Missouri, Vanderbilt hosts UConn. Western Kentucky visits number-16 Michigan State, Memphis plays Temple in Philly, Middle Tennessee hosts Marshall, SEMO visits Tennessee Tech, and Tennessee State visits Austin Peay.

TIGERS HOST FALCONS; LAKERS ON BYE WEEK
With Calloway County on a bye week, Murray High has the city’s Friday Night Lights all to themselves tonight when the Tigers begin district play against Fort Campbell in a 7 pm game at Ty Holland Stadium. The Tigers are coming off a game that saw them pile up over 500 yards of total offense in the win over Christian County. Murray head coach Darren Bowling gives a lot credit to the senior class, which will be honored tonight. Airtime for the game is set for 6 tonight on WNBS AM and FM.

RACER SOCCER OPENS OVC PLAY WITH WIN OVER SEMO
Rebecca Kubin’s goal in the 68th minute provided the winning margin as Murray State soccer edged SEMO 2-1 yesterday at Cutchin Field in Murray in the OVC opener for both teams. The Racers lead 1-0 at the half on a goal in the 35th minute by Lauren Payne before Elizabeth Rater tied the game early in the second half. But that was all of the offense the Redhawks would see as Jenna Villacres posted a shutout from that point. The 6-4 Racers visit Eastern Illinois Sunday afternoon.

RACER VOLLEYBALL VISITS MOREHEAD THIS WEEKEND
The 8-4 Murray State volleyball team visits 4-9 Morehead State to face the Eagles at Johnson Arena. The two will clash today at 5 and tomorrow morning at 11 with both on ESPN+.

CARDINALS DOWN BREWERS; WAINO TO START WILDCARD GAME
Dylan Carlson launched two home runs to carry the Cardinals to a 4-3 win over the Brewers at Busch Stadium. J.A. Happ got the win for St. Louis, which took two of three in the series. Luis García posted his second save. The Cards wrap up the regular season with a three-game home set against the Cubs beginning tonight with time shifted coverge following Tiger football on WNBS. The Cardinals announced yesterday that they will send Adam Wainwright to the mound to start the National League Wild Card Game on Wednesday.

TITANS PREP FOR JETS
The Tennessee Titans and winless Jets will meet in an AFC battle in East Rutherford on Sunday. Fantasy football players beware, as both AJ Brown and Julio Jones did not practice yesterday. It’s their second straight day out of practice. Both wideouts are dealing with hamstring injuries. Caleb Farley has also missed two days with a shoulder issue and Bud Dupree has also been sidelined for two days with a knee injury.

MINOR LEAGUE ROUNDUP
The Memphis Redbirds beat the Charlotte Knights 6-4 in Memphis, the Louisville Bats edged the Clippers 5-2 in Columbus, while Nashville picked up an 8-3 win in Indianapolis.

NASHVILLE SC HEADS TO JERSEY
Nashville SC plays New York City FC on Sunday in Harrison, New Jersey. Nashville has drawn its last two games and will be looking to get back in the win column. Nashville is second in the Eastern Conference with 46 points.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
The Bengals are going home with a big win in primetime. Evan McPherson kicked a 35-yard field goal to end the game as the Bengals rallied for a 24-21 win against the Jaguars in Cincinnati. The Bengals rallied from a 14-0 deficit at the half. Joe Burrow threw for 348 yards and two touchdowns in the win. C.J. Uzomah finished with two touchdowns in the win for Cincinnati, which improves to 3-and-1. James Robinson rushed for two touchdowns in the loss for the Jaguars. Trevor Lawrence threw for 204 yards and rushed for a score. The Jaguars drop to 0-and-4 and have lost 19 straight games dating back to last season.

A star-studded lineup is taking the field for this year’s Pepsi Super Bowl Halftime Show. The NFL announced the show will feature music hitmakers Dr. Dre, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige and Kendrick Lamar. The group has a combined 43 Grammys and at least 22 No. 1 Billboard albums between them. Super Bowl 56 takes place on February 13th, 2022 at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.

Two big time battles in the SEC will highlight College Football Week Five. Top-ranked Alabama is set to host 12th-ranked Ole Miss as Nick Saban and Lane Kiffin look to coach their programs to victory. There’s a heavyweight showdown in Athens on Saturday, as 11th-ranked Arkansas visits number-two Georgia. Elsewhere around college football on Saturday, eighth-ranked Cincinnati is at seventh-ranked Notre Dame. A pair of ranked teams meet in Stillwater, as 18th-ranked Oklahoma State hosts 24th-ranked Baylor. On Saturday night, number-20 UCLA hosts Arizona State.

The first round of the Sanderson Farms Championship is complete. Six golfers make up the top four on the leaderboard. Sahith Theegala shot a 64 and leads the way at eight-under par. Harold Varner III and Nick Watney are tied for second at seven-under. Si Woo Kim, Roger Sloan, and Kurt Kitayama round out the top four at six-under par.

NASCAR is set for high speed and drama on Sunday. The Cup Series will head to Talladega Superspeedway in Alabama as another driver will look to punch their ticket to the round of eight. Denny Hamlin won last week’s race at Las Vegas to advance. Hamlin starts the race up front alongside Kyle Busch. Chase Elliott, Ryan Blaney, and Kyle Larson round out the top five.
