The Murray State Soccer team will begin their OVC schedule this afternoon at 3 when they welcome Southeast Missouri to Cutchin Field. The game will air on ESPN Plus.
RACER FOOTBALL RETURNS AFTER BYE WEEK
Murray State football returns off a bye week when the Racers host Eastern Illinois Saturday in a 4 pm Family Weekend game. EIU snapped a six-game losing streak dating back to last season and won its first road game since November 2019 by topping Tennessee Tech 28-14 last Saturday. Jordan Miles was named OVC Defensive Player of the Week after tallying three sacks and forcing two fumbles, while linebacker Jason Johnson had 16 tackles. EIU head coach Adam Cushing likes what he sees in the Racers…SB. Airtime for Saturday’s game is set for 3:30 on FROGGY 103.7.

The longest winning streak in Cardinals franchise history is over following a 4-0 loss to the Brewers at Busch Stadium. St. Louis had won 17 straight before the defeat. Miles Mikolas dropped to 2-and-3 after giving up three-runs over five-and-two-thirds, while the Cards only posted three hits. The series concludes this afternoon with airtime for the game at 11:20 this morning on WNBS AM and FM.
FEDEXFORUM REQUIRES VACCINATIONS AND MASKS
You’re gonna need to get the shot if you want to go to the FedExForum this winter. The FedExForum will require proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test to get inside for Grizzlies or Tigers games. The FedExForum also intends to follow the recent Shelby County Health Department mask mandate that goes through the end of October.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
It’s Burrow, it’s Lawrence, it’s primetime. The Bengals and Jaguars will kick off Week Four of the NFL season On Thursday Night Football. Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence will battle for the first time since they competed for a national championship. Later this weekend, Tom Brady makes his long awaited return to New England, when the Buccaneers and Patriots square off on Sunday Night Football. Elsewhere on Sunday, it’s a battle of undefeated NFC West teams as the Rams host the Cardinals. The Cowboys host the Panthers, the Seahawks visit the 49ers, and Packers host the Steelers. Monday night, the Raiders visit the Chargers.
Cornerback Richard Sherman is officially a Tampa Bay Buccaneer. The former San Francisco 49er has been a free agent since his contract expired in 2020. The addition to the team comes after Tampa Bay starter Sean Murphy-Bunting injured his elbow in the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys. Sherman is a five-time Pro Bowler and won the Super Bowl in 2014 with the Seattle Seahawks. He said Bucs quarterback Tom Brady helped recruit him to the team and Sherman may even be ready to play this Sunday against the New England Patriots.
Shohei Ohtani won’t be pitching again for the Los Angeles Angels this season. The two-way superstar will skip his scheduled start in the team’s season finale on Sunday, according to manager Joe Maddon. The skipper said “there’s really nothing to gain right now” as the Angels were eliminated from postseason contention. The right-hander had a breakout season on the mound, finishing with a 9-and-2 record, a 3.18 earned run average and 156 strikeouts. Ohtani set a career-high with 23 starts and 130.1 innings pitched.
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Marcus Semien is making some MLB history. Semien set the new single-season record for a second baseman as he launched his 44th home run in Wednesday’s game against the New York Yankees. With the homer, he broke a tie with Davey Johnson, who set the record in 1973. Semien was named an All-Star this season and surpassed 100 RBI for the first time in his career.
The NBA says unvaccinated players who are forced to miss games due to local regulations won’t be paid. This could have an impact on the Brooklyn Nets, as Kyrie Irving missed media day this week, and then said he preferred to keep his vaccination status private. New York City’s current COVID-19 policy says that anyone who practices or plays within the five boroughs must be vaccinated, or have proof of at least one-dose.
