MSU-WKU TO BEGIN HOOPS SERIES IN 23-24 SEASON
One of college basketball’s greatest rivalries continues when Murray State hosts Western Kentucky Hilltoppers on a date to be announced in the 2023-24 season. The renewal of the series is a four consecutive year agreement with the first meeting at the CFSB Center in Murray during the 2023-24 season and the second meeting in Bowling Green at Diddle Arena in the 2024-25 season. Since WKU left the conference in 1982, the Racers have won 13 of 23 meetings including a 93-81 win in the last meeting in 2014 at the CFSB Center.

BURGLARY CHARGES DROPPED AGAINST UK FOOTBALL PLAYERS
Six UK football players are no longer facing charges in connection with a burglary case. The Lexington Herald-Leader is reporting that a grand jury dismissed charges that had been brought in August against R.J. The charges stemmed from a dispute over whether the players had illegally entered a home where a fraternity party was taking place. The players have been reinstated to the team and can resume their activities.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
LeBron James is vaccinated against COVID-19. The Lakers superstar confirmed he had gotten his shots during the team’s media day on Tuesday. James described himself as “very skeptical” when the vaccines first came out, but he did some research. James then explained rolling up his sleeve was “the right thing to do.” Los Angeles is expecting to have its roster 100 percent vaccinated before the start of the regular season.
The New York Mets are ending a pitcher’s season right as another started. The team announced ace Jacob deGrom won’t return to the mound this season after he was sidelined in July with an elbow injury. Manager Luis Rojas explained there was “no sense” to him pitching again this year. On the other hand, Noah Syndergaard made his long-awaited return. He recorded two strikeouts through one inning of work, his first action since September 29th, 2019.
The Detroit Lions are parting ways with linebacker Jamie Collins. Detroit released Collins on Tuesday after the team explored trade options for the nine-year veteran. Collins is now free to sign with another team and will still make the full 8.8 million-dollars he was owed from the Lions. The linebacker had recorded 10 tackles and a fumble recovery through Detroit’s first two games, but stopped reporting to practice ahead of Week Three.
One of boxing’s greatest is stepping away from the ring. Manny Pacquiao announced his retirement Tuesday night in a 15-minute video posted on his social media. Pacquiao closes his career with a 62-8-2 record, winning 39 of those fights by knockout. “PacMan” won 12 major titles over his storied career and is the only eight-division champion in the history of boxing. Pacquiao is a sitting senator in the Philippines and announced he is running for president in 2022.
