NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
Aaron Rodgers and the Packers outlasted Jimmy Garoppolo and the 49ers 30-28 in a thriller on Sunday Night Football in Santa Clara. “Jimmy G” and the Niners took their first lead of the game at 28-27 with just 37-seconds remaining. However, that was more than enough time for Rodgers as he led the Packers on a six-play, 42 yard drive that was capped off by a Mason Crosby 51-yard field goal as time expired. Rodgers finished 23-of-33 for 261 yards and two touchdowns for Green Bay. Garoppolo was 25-of-40 for 257 yards and two TD’s, but also had an interception and lost a fumble as the Niners fell to 2-and-1.

Ravens kicker Justin Tucker is the owner of some NFL history. Tucker kicked a record 66-yard field goal as the Ravens beat the Lions 19-17 in Detroit. It sets a new record for the longest field goal, replacing Matt Prater’s 64-yard field goal. Prater did attempt a record of his own on Sunday for the Cardinals, as he tried from 68 yards against the Jaguars. The kick fell short and was returned for a touchdown.

Police are confirming that University of Utah player Aaron Lowe was shot and killed early Sunday morning. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that it happened at a house party in Sugar House. The Salt Lake police chief said the 21-year-old Lowe died on the scene and another unidentified person was also shot. The shooter’s identity is not known at this time, and no arrests have been made. In a statement, Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham said Lowe will be “deeply missed.”

Patrick Cantlay, Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Justin Thomas, and Daniel Berger all won their singles matchups, but it was Collin Morikawa that clinched the victory for Team USA.
