RACER SOCCER DOWNS SIU
Morgan Bodker, Rebecca Kubin, and Riley Johnson found the net as Murray State returned home for the first time in almost a month to notch a 3-1 win over Southern Illinois at Cutchin Field. The game was tied at 1 at halftime before the Racer defense took control, with Kubin providing what would prove to be the game winning goal in the 50th minute. The win snapped a two game skid for the Racers, who will take a 5-3 record into Sunday’s 1 pm home match with Cincinnati.

RACERS STALL IN SECOND HALF FOR SECOND STRAIGHT WEEK
Matt McDonald threw for a touchdown and ran for another as Bowling Green ended a 10-game losing streak with a 27-10 home win over Murray State on Saturday. Damonta Witherspoon scored the Racers’ touchdown on a 6-yard run in the second quarter. The 1-2 Racers are off this Saturday and will return to the field on October 2 when they host Eastern Illinois on Family Weekend. Tonight, we will talk Racer football on Hey Coach at 6:30 on Froggy 103.7.

CARDINALS THROTTLE LAKERS
In high school football, Mayfield improved to 5-0 Friday night with a 56-13 win over Calloway County. The Cardinals led 35-0 after the opening quarter and were never threatened from there. The Laker scores came on a Timarian Bledsoe 9-yard run and a Price Aycock 75-yard kickoff return. The 2-3 Lakers are back home Friday against Madisonville. Murray High hosts Christian County this Friday after a bye week.

CALLOWAY FALLS TO NELSON COUNTY IN 2A TOURNEY SEMIFINALS
In girls high school soccer on Saturday, Nelson County blanked Calloway County 5-0 in the state semifinals of the Kentucky 2A State Tournament. The Lakers Sunny Clark and McKenzie Love each made the All-Tournament Team. Lexington Catholic claimed the title over Nelson County yesterday.

CARDINALS EXTEND WINNING STREAK
The Cardinals are firing on all cylinders. St. Louis rode a five-run first inning to an 8-7 win over the Padres at Busch Stadium. The Cards won their eighth straight. Dylan Carlson, Edmundo Sosa, and Harrison Bader all drove in a pair in the victory. Alex Reyes improved to 9-and-8 and Giovanny Gallegos recorded his tenth save. The Redbirds hold a three-game lead over the Reds for the second NL Wild Card spot The Cardinals face the Brewers tonight with airtime at 5:45 on WNBS AM and FM.

TITANS EDGE SEATTLE IN OT
The Tennessee Titans ruined the return of fans to Lumen Field in a 33-30 overtime win over the Seahawks in Seattle. Derrick Henry had 182 rushing yards and three scores on the ground and Randy Bullock made four field goals for Tennessee, including the game-winning 36-yarder to win it in overtime. Ryan Tannehill threw for 347 yards and completed six passes for 128 yards to Julio Jones. The Seahawks had a 24-9 halftime lead but Tennessee was able to come back for its first win of the season.

CATS AND VOLS SET FOR SEC PLAY
The UK football team remains unbeaten. The Wildcats improved to 3-and-0 with a, 28-23, win over UT Chattanooga on Saturday at Kroger Field. The ‘Cats will open SEC play Saturday night against the South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia. The game is set for 6 central. UT football team is preparing for SEC play. The Volunteers improved to 2-and-1 on Saturday with a 56-0 win over Tennessee Tech. The Vols will face Florida in The Swamp on Saturday night. The game is set for 6 central.

MINOR LEAGUE ROUNDUP
In Minor League baseball. the Louisville Bats beat the Redbirds 8-7 in Memphis, while Gwinnett blanked Nashville 7-0. Memphis, Louisville, and Nashville are all off tonight.

NASHVILLE FALLS AT TORONTO
Nashville SC’s trip north of the border was unsuccessful, as the club fell to Toronto FC 2-1 on Saturday night in Toronto. C.J. Sapong scored Nashville’s only goal. Nashville remains in second in the MLS Eastern Conference standings with 41 points.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
Lamar Jackson finally has a win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Jackson picked up a crucial fourth-and-one late as the Ravens defeated the Chiefs 36-35 in Baltimore. Jackson threw for 239 yards and a touchdown while also rushing for 107 yards and two scores on the ground. The quarterback also threw two picks. It’s the fourth career game of 200-plus passing yards and 100-plus rushing yards for Jackson. Baltimore recovered a critical Clyde Edwards-Helaire fumble late after rallying from down 35-24. The Ravens improve to 1-and-1. Patrick Mahomes threw for 343 yards, three touchdowns and an interception in defeat. It’s the first career interception in the month of September for Mahomes. Travis Kelce finished with 109 receiving yards and a touchdown for Kansas City. The Chiefs drop to 1-and-1.

It was a wild Sunday of NFL action with seven teams remaining undefeated. The Rams, 49ers, Raiders, Panthers, Broncos, Cardinals, and Buccaneers all improved to 2-and-0 with victories. The Titans mounted a big second-half comeback to top the Seahawks in overtime 33-30. In Sunday Night Football, the Ravens squeaked past the Chiefs with a 36-35 win.

It was another wild weekend of college football, but it didn’t affect the top of the coaches poll. Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas A&M all stayed put in the top five after each team won on Saturday. Penn State jumped up to number eight overall after its 28-20 home win over Auburn, and BYU leaped up to number 16 following its 27-17 win over Arizona State in Provo. The Michigan State Spartans entered the poll at number 21 after they beat the Miami Hurricanes 38-17 in South Florida, and Fresno State snuck into the poll at 25 after they edged UCLA 40-37 late Saturday night. The Bruins dropped 11 spots because of the loss, but stayed in the poll at 24.

The eight-team WNBA playoff field is set. The Connecticut Sun sit atop the standings with a 26-and-6 record. The Las Vegas Aces were second with a 24-and-8 record, and the top two teams will have byes until the semifinals. Round one begins on Thursday night with single-elimination matchups between the eight-seed New York Liberty vs. the five-seed Phoenix Mercury, and then the seven-seed Dallas Wings take on the six-seed Chicago Sky. The Minnesota Lynx and the Seattle Storm finished third and fourth overall, respectively, and will get byes in the first round.

Max Homa is the winner of the Fortinet Championship in Napa. Homa claimed the victory after shooting a 65 on the final day and finishing the tournament at 19-under par. Maverick McNealy came in second place after shooting a 68 in the final round. McNealy finished one stroke shy of Homa for the tournament. Mito Pereira finished at 16-under par for third place. Marc Leishman and Talor Gooch tied for fourth-place at 15-under par.
