JUDGE RULES ON RAMS
A St. Louis judge is rejecting a bid by the Los Angeles Rams and the NFL to dismiss a lawsuit over the team’s 2016 move out of St. Louis. On Monday, a judge rebuffed all of the legal arguments by the league, club, and team owner Stan Kroenke in their attempts to avoid the civil trial set for January in St. Louis. The suit filed in 2017 claims the NFL violated its own relocation rules by allowing the Rams to leave St. Louis. In June, the NFL, Rams and Kroenke sought to have the suit dismissed by filing a motion that argued the league’s relocation guidelines are not a contract.

BLUES PROSPECT ROBBED
A prospect with the St. Louis Blues is unharmed after being robbed at gunpoint on the grounds of the Gateway Arch. The team said the robbery happened Monday night while the unnamed player was in town for the team’s rookie camp. The prospect is safe as local authorities work to apprehend the suspect

BLUES BRING BOZAK BACK
Tyler Bozak is returning to the Blues. The team has agreed to terms with the forward on a one-year contract worth 750-thousand-dollars plus bonuses. He helped St. Louis capture the 2019 Stanley Cup Championship.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
It appears NBA players won’t be required to get a coronavirus vaccine before hitting the hardwood this season. ESPN reports there won’t be a mandate in place as the league and NBPA negotiate COVID-related protocols ahead of the new campaign. The report also notes most players are already fully vaccinated. The NBA does require staff and referees to roll up their sleeves. The new season tips off on October 19th.

John Wall’s days as a Houston Rocket appear to be dwindling. ESPN reports Houston and the veteran point guard have mutually agreed to work towards find a trade destination for the 31-year-old. Wall isn’t expected to play for the Rockets again as the team plans to start rookie Jalen Green alongside Kevin Porter Jr. in the backcourt. Both sides decided a bench role wouldn’t benefit Wall or Houston next season. The five-time NBA All-Star is set to make 91.7-million dollars over the next two seasons, making a trade quite a difficult ordeal. The Rockets won’t consider a contract buyout until after next summer’s free agency.

Major League Baseball is adding to the ways players can honor Roberto Clemente. All players who were nominated for the award named after him can wear his famous number 21 on September 15th. That also applies to those who have won the award in past years. Meantime, the Pittsburgh Pirates will have everybody wearing number 21 on Wednesday as Clemente played his entire career with the team. The league is also making September 15th its permanent Roberto Clemente Day.

USC could be eyeing a Kansas City Chiefs’ coach for its coaching vacancy. ESPN reports Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has emerged as a candidate to become the Trojans next head coach. Bieniemy, who is from Southern California, has said in the past that USC is one of few college jobs that would interest him. The Trojans fired longtime head coach Clay Helton on Monday and are conducting a national search for his replacement over the next several months.

One of the best players in the history of the Milwaukee Brewers is calling it quits. Ryan Braun announced his retirement on Tuesday in a video released by the Brewers twitter account. The 37-year-old slugger said in the video that he still loves baseball, but “The time is right for me to retire from my playing days.” Braun was the 2011 NL MVP, made six All-Star games and is the Brewers franchise home run leader with 352 career bombs. Braun played all 14 of his MLB seasons with Milwaukee and is second in team history with 1,154 RBIs and 408 doubles. Braun was suspended during the 2013 season for using performance-enhancing drugs, something that he later apologized for.
