MSU ANNOUNCED HALL OF FAME BANQUET DETAILS
Murray State Athletics announced the 39th class to the MSU Hall of Fame presented by the Murray Bank, which will be honored the weekend of November 12-13. The 2021 class to the Murray State Hall of Fame will be honored at an induction dinner at 6 pm on November 12 at the CFSB Center. The 2021 class combined to cover six sports that produced 30 All-Ohio Valley Conference selections. Tickets are $45 per person and can be purchased by visiting the CFSB Center ticket office or online through the ticket link at GoRacers.com.

NUGGETS HIRE POPEYE JONES AS ASSISTANT
The Denver Nuggets have announced they have hired Popeye Jones to join Head Coach Michael Malone’s staff as an assistant coach. The Murray State Hall of Famer from Dresden, Tennessee served as an assistant coach under Doc Rivers with the Philadelphia 76ers last season and spent the prior seven seasons with the Indiana Pacers as an assistant coach.

TITANS MAKE ROSTER MOVES
The Tennessee Titans made some changes to their roster yesterday. Tennessee waived offensive linemen Paul Adams and Ross Reynolds and waived kicker Tucker McCann. All three were dealing with injuries. The Titans also placed defensive lineman Anthony Rush on the COVID-19 List.

BROWN LIKELY TO PLAY IN SEASON OPENER
It looks like A.J. Brown’s knee injury won’t keep him off the field for the regular season opener. ESPN is reporting that Brown will be ready to go for the start of the Titans regular season, despite missing practices last week. Brown had cleanup surgeries on both knees this offseason. The Titans open the regular season against the Cardinals on September 12th.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
The allied powers are forming in college football. The Pac-12, Big Ten and ACC are reportedly set to form a landmark alliance on Tuesday. The announcement is expected to address non-conference scheduling as well as College Football Playoff expansion among other items. The expected-to-be announced alliance comes on the heels of Oklahoma and Texas joining the SEC.

Federal prosecutors are saying former Los Angeles Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs was involved in a drug distribution operation within the organization. It’s suspected Skaggs was used occasionally as a middleman to supply illegal narcotics from former Angels employee Eric Kay. According to the Los Angeles Times, five MLB players are preparing to testify that they received oxycodone from Kay, while he was working for the team.

Jameis Winston is reminding the world why he was a former Heisman winner and the top overall pick. Winston was 9-of-10 for 123 yards and two touchdowns as the Saints defeated the Jaguars 23-21 in preseason action in New Orleans. Marquez Callaway finished with 104 receiving yards and two touchdowns. This year’s top overall pick, Trevor Lawrence, finished 14-of-23 for 113 yards for the Jaguars.

Tony Finau is leaving with a tournament win at long last. Finau defeated Cameron Smith in a playoff to take home the win at The Northern Trust in Jersey City. It’s Finau’s first win on the PGA Tour since 2016. Finau shot a 65 in the final round to earn a playoff with Smith, who shot a 67. Both finished 20 shots under par. The tournament was delayed to Monday following a decision to postpone the tournament finale a day due to Hurricane Henri.

President Biden is welcoming the Seattle Storm to the White House to celebrate their 2020 WNBA championship title. During the event, Biden called the Storm an “inspiring team” that represents a great American city. He congratulated them for being the only team in sports with all-female leadership and ownership. Biden noted five players are also Olympic athletes and he specifically thanked the American players for bringing the gold home.
