INGRAM NAMED TO MSU ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
The seventh member of Murray State Athletics eight member 2021 Hall of Fame class is Scottie Ingram, a three-time Ohio Valley Conference Volleyball Player of the Year. Ingram burst on the scene in her sophomore season by leading the OVC with 3.66 kills per game and becoming 2014 OVC Player of the Year. She followed that up with two more Player of the Year awards in 2015 and 2016. This coincided with the Racers three-straight OVC regular season titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances. Ingram became the first Racer to have her number retired when her No. 7 was raised to the rafters of Racer Arena on senior night in 2016. Murray State Hall of Fame weekend is November 12 and 13.

GRIZZLIES ADD TWO FIRST ROUND PICKS
The Memphis Grizzlies made two first-round picks in last night’s NBA Draft, taking Stanford’s Ziaire Williams at ten overall and Loyola Maryland’s Santi Aldama with the 30th pick. Williams is a 6-foot-8 forward, scored 10.7 points per game as a freshman at Stanford. Aldama is a Spanish 6-foot-11 center who averaged 21.2 points and 10-point-1 rebounds last season as a sophomore with Loyola.

KENTUCKY PLAYERS PROMINENT IN NBA DRAFT
Four players from universities in Kentucky were selected in the NBA Draft. Former Wildcat Isaiah Jackson went to the Pacers at number 22 overall and teammate BJ Boston went to the Clippers at 51 overall. It’s the 12 consecutive year the Wildcats have had at least one player taken in the first round. Louisville’s David Johnson was drafted by the Raptors with the 47th pick and Western Kentucky’s Charles Bassey was taken by the 76ers with the 53rd pick. Former Cardinal Carlik Jones went undrafted but signed a deal with the Mavericks.

TWO VOLS GO IN ROUND 1 OF NBA DRAFT
A pair of Tennessee Volunteers are first round NBA draft selections. Keon Johnson went to the Los Angeles Clippers at number 21 last night. The Philadelphia 76ers later drafted Jaden Springer with the 28th overall selection. It’s the first time since 1977 two Vols have been taken in the first round.

CARDINALS HOST TWINS TONIGHT.
The Cardinals host the Twins tonight. Wade LeBlanc takes the mound for St. Louis against Minnesota’s José Berríos. The Cards are coming off a two-game road split with the Indians. Airtime for tonight’s game is set for 6:20 pm on WNBS AM and FM.

CARDINALS TO HONOR 2011 CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM
The St. Louis Cardinals organization will host a 10-year anniversary reunion of the 2011 World Series Championship team at Busch Stadium on September 18. Over 25 former players and coaches from the 2011 team, including Cardinals Hall of Famer Chris Carpenter, World Series MVP David Freese, 2011 Cardinals All-Stars Lance Berkman and Matt Holliday, are scheduled to take part in a pregame ceremony before that evening’s contest against the vSan Diego Padres. Beginning at approximately 5:30 PM, members of the 2011 team will parade along the Busch Stadium warning track. The ceremony will conclude with a ceremonial first pitch and a 2011-Reunion-Logoteam photo with the World Series trophy at home plate.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
The 2021 NBA Draft is officially in the books as Cade Cunningham went first overall to the Pistons. The Rockets took Jalen Green second and Cavaliers drafted Evan Mobley third. First surprise came with the Raptors selecting Scottie Barnes, leaving Jalen Suggs to be taken by the Magic. Ziaire Williams and Chris Duarte each climbed into the Top-15. Sharife Cooper, Luke Garza and Scottie Lewis headlined the second-rounders.

The NBA is honoring the late Terrence Clarke. Commissioner Adam Silver honored the late Kentucky guard by drafting him and inviting his family up on the stage during the NBA Draft on Thursday night. Clarke died following a car accident in the Los Angeles area back in April. He was just 19 years old. Clarke was expected to be drafted in the first round before the accident.

Star quarterback Aaron Rodgers is signing his reworked deal with the Green Bay Packers. The new contract voids the 2023 year in his original deal, allowing him to leave after the 2022 season. The revised deal also saves Green Bay around 10 million dollars in 2021 cap space. This comes after Rodgers voiced his displeasure with the Packers front office this offseason and considered retiring amid his standoff.

The Los Angeles Dodgers are finalizing a trade to acquire pitcher Max Scherzer and shortstop Trea Turner. ESPN reports the Dodgers will send the Washington Nationals four prospects in the blockbuster deal. Those include: pitcher Josiah Gray, catcher Keibert Ruiz, pitcher Gerardo Carrillo and outfielder Donovan Casey. Gray and Ruiz are considered the top prospects in Los Angeles’ farm system. Both Scherzer and Turner were named All-Stars this season.

The Yankees are acquiring a big bat. New York has acquired first baseman Anthony Rizzo from the Chicago Cubs. Rizzo has 14 home runs on the season. He was an integral part of helping the Cubs win the World Series in 2016. In return the Yankees are sending the Cubs minor league pitcher Alexander Vizcaino and outfielder Kevin Alcantara.

The United States women’s basketball team continues to roll. The Americans beat Japan 86-69 behind 20 points and ten rebounds from A’ja Wilson. Brittney Griner and Breanna Stewart had 15 points apiece in the win as the U.S. has won its first two games in Tokyo. Team USA will face France on Monday.
