HOWSON NAMED TO MSU ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME
The sixth member of Murray State Athletics eight member 2021 Hall of Fame class is Delaney Howson, who was the 2014 Ohio Valley Conference Women’s Golfer of the Year. Howson was the first Racer to be a four-time All-OVC selection and was medalist at the 2014 OVC Championship. She was an OVC Medal of Honor winner three times and in 2014, she was a COSIDA Academic All-American.

MCMAHON PROMOTES WHITE, ADDS BROWN
Murray State men’s basketball coach, Matt McMahon announced yesterday that Ronrico White has been promoted to assistant coach and Racer legend Marcus Brown returns as assistant to the head coach. White joined the Racers in 2019 as director of player development after serving as an assistant coach at Gardner-Webb. Brown’s starred at Murray State from 1992-96 and he was inducted into the MSU Hall of Fame in 2010 with his number 5 retired. Brown is the program’s third all-time leading scorer, is first in steals, and is the all-time leading American scorer in Euro League history.

RFAA MAKES DONATION
The Racer Football Alumni Association presented Murray State Football head coach Dean Hood and his team with a $35,000 gift Tuesday to go towards the program’s “Clear The Track” Campaign, benefitting the Murray State Football team. The gift brings the RFAA’s year-to-date giving total to $76,000, while putting the “Clear The Track ” Campaign within $300,000 of its original $1 million goal at $705,000.

CARDS FALL IN CLEVELAND
Kwang Hyun Kim allowed four home runs in the Cardinals 7-2 loss to the Indians in Cleveland. Kim dropped to 6-and-6 after giving up five-runs in less than three innings. Dylan Carlson homered for St. Louis, which split the two-game set. The Cards are off today an host the Twins tomorrow night.

AREA MINOR LEAGUE ROUNDUP
In are minor league action, Memphis beat the Stripers 8-7 at home, the Louisville Bats blew out the Cubs 17-5 in Des Moines, and the Nashville Sounds lost to Columbus 6-2.

MEMPHIS READY FOR DRAFT
The Memphis Grizzlies are gearing up for the NBA Draft tonight. Memphis is picking at number 17 overall in the first round. The Grizzlies have the 51st pick in the second round.

TOPPERS ADD AUSTIN PEAY TRANSFER
The Bowling Green Daily News reports that Western Kentucky has landed Austin Peay transfer DeAngelo Wilson. He played for Bowling Green High School and is the reigning Ohio Valley Conference Offensive Player of the Year after he caught 44 passes for 619 yards and three touchdowns in a seven game season.

AAC LOOKING FOR BIG 12 TEAMS
The American Athletic Conference is attempting engage with a number of potential Big 12 additions to the conference. The Athletic reports that the AAC has reached out to as many as three to five Big 12 members about possibly leaving their conference. The AAC has taken an aggressive approach to potential realignment and desires to add multiple Big 12 schools with the support of ESPN. The conference declined to make a statement on the situation on Wednesday.

MEMPHIS LOOKS TO UPGRADE LIBERTY BOWL
The University of Memphis is seeking 40 to 50 million dollars for structural upgrades to the Liberty Bowl. The university has not presented its plan to the Memphis city council but plans to do so within the next 12 months. The Liberty bowl is owned by the city and its previous improvements were paid for with public funds. This comes in an era of conference realignment, so the university could be trying to bolster its stadium for a possible move to another conference.

UTM WOMEN TRAVELING TO THE BAHAMAS
Two-time defending Ohio Valley Conference champion University of Tennessee at Martin women’s basketball team will embark on a foreign exhibition tour to The Bahamas as part of the team’s preparation for the 2021-22 season. The trip will see the Skyhawks depart for Nassau today before returning next Wednesday. UT Martin will play two international goodwill games along with spending time practicing, touring the country and conducting team-building exercises.

PREDS EXTEND GRANLUND
Mikael Granlund is coming back to the Predators. Nashville signed the center to a four-year contract worth five million dollars annually. Granlund had 27 points in 51 games last season.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
American swimming star Caeleb Dressel is taking home his first-ever individual medal after grabbing the gold in the men’s 100-meter freestyle. Dressel finished with an Olympic-Record time of 47.02-seconds, beating the previous mark of 47.05-seconds set by Australia’s Eamon Sullivan at the 2008 Beijing Games. Australia’s Kyle Chalmers grabbed the silver medal, while ROC’s Kliment Kolesnikov earned the bronze. It’s Dressel’s second gold in Tokyo and fourth overall, with three of those in relay events.

The U.S. is taking home the silver medal in the women’s four-by-200 freestyle swimming relay in a race in which the top three finishers bested the previous World Record time in Tokyo. China set a new World Record with a time of 7:40.33 to take gold, while the Americans finished four-tenths of a second behind them thanks to a tremendous effort from Katie Ledecky. The Washington-DC-area-native swam a 1:53.76 as the anchor for the women’s team — a time that, if she had recorded it in the individual race, she would’ve taken gold. Allison Schmitt, Paige Madden, and Kathryn McLaughlin also take home silvers for the U.S. as they set a new American record.

The 2021 NBA Draft takes place tonight in Brooklyn. It will be a chance for dreams to come true for some of the brightest young basketball hopefuls across the country. The Detroit Pistons will hold the first overall selection in the draft. They have been widely linked to prospective top pick and Oklahoma State guard Cade Cunningham. The Rockets have the second pick in the draft. The Cavaliers, Raptors, and Magic round out the top five.

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is revealing he considered retirement as his standoff with the team dragged on. However, Rodgers told reporters he still has a “big, competitive hole” in his body. Rodgers was drafted by the team in 2005 toward the end of the first round. Rodgers elaborated on his dispute with the team that was the subject of much speculation this offseason. He said he wanted to help the Packers learn from previous mistakes they made. Rodgers explained that involved not keeping who he described as “high characters guys” like Charles Woodson and Jordy Nelson.

The Washington Nationals are dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak. Wednesday night’s game against the Phillies in Philadelphia was postponed due to an outbreak among players. This comes after Nationals shortstop Trea [[ tray ]] Turner was pulled from Tuesday’s game in the first inning after testing positive for the virus. The teams are scheduled for a doubleheader today.

The Bronx Bombers are reportedly adding a massive bat to their lineup. According to multiple reports, the New York Yankees are acquiring slugging sensation Joey Gallo from the Texas Rangers. Gallo has 25 home runs on the season and has multiple 40-home run seasons during his career. In return, the Yankees are sending the Rangers a haul that includes pitcher Glen Otto, second baseman Ezequiel Duran, shortstop Josh Smith and second baseman Trevor Hauver. The Yankees entered Wednesday nine games back of the Red Sox in the AL East.
