The two arch-rivals released a joint statement saying they won’t renew their media rights once they expire in 2025 and they made the conference aware of their move. NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
It looks like Aaron Rodgers will be the Packers quarterback for at least one more season. According to ESPN, Green Bay and Rodgers came to mutually-agreed upon terms that are close to getting Rodgers to come to training camp instead of skipping it like he had planned. Some of the concessions the Packers reportedly made to Rodgers are voiding the 2023 year in his contract and agreeing to review Rodgers’ situation after this season, which could potentially open the door for his exit in 2022.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be keeping their name, but they plan to retire their mascot. Organization president Mark Donovan says the mascot named “Warpaint” will be officially retired. The team has previously banned fans from wearing Native American headwear and garb. It comes just after the Cleveland Indians announced they would become the Cleveland Guardians next year. The Washington Football Team retired the name Redskins before the 2020 season.

There are ten police complaints against Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. Watson attorney Rusty Hardin tells ESPN all but two of the women were ones who filed civil suits against his client earlier this year. He promises Watson is fully cooperating with Houston police and the Harris County DA’s Office. Watson was civilly sued by 22 massage therapists accusing him of sexual misconduct. Depositions are expected to start this fall. The NFL is also investigating.

The Athletics are adding a major arm to their bullpen. The A’s will acquire southpaw Andrew Chafin from the Chicago Cubs. Chafin has a 2.06 ERA for Chicago on the season. -A outfielder Greg Deichmann is one of the players Chicago will receive in return. The Cubs will also receive pitcher Daniel Palencia.

The second-seeded woman in tennis is out in Tokyo. Japan’s Naomi Osaka lost in straight-sets to Marketa Vondrousova 6-1, 6-4 in the third round. Osaka had 18 unforced errors in the match. The top three seeds have now all been eliminated from the women’s draw.
