FANS INVITED TO SEE MSU’S TBT TEAM THIS WEEK
A collection of former Murray State men’s basketball stars called The Overlooked will compete later this month in The Basketball Tournament but will have two days of open workouts in Murray where fans can watch practice, get an autograph or photo, and say hello. Fans are invited to come to the CFSB Center tonight at 6:30 and Thursday at 6 p.m. Fans must enter the CFSB Center through Upper Level Gate-A. There will be limited concessions available and admission is Free. The Overlooked includes Isaiah Canaan, Ivan Aska, Ed Daniel, Brandon Garrett, Donte Poole, B.J. Jenkins, Jonathan Fairell, Jeffery Moss, and Shaq Buchanan. Former Racer team manager Terrence Miles and former Racer Jeffery McClain are sharing coaching duties. Former Racer player, Jeff Martin, Jr., is general manager. The TBT is a summer 5-on-5 single elimination event with the last team standing getting 1 million dollars. The Racers are in the Peoria regional where games will be played July 24-28.

RACER SOFTBALL ADDS FIVE
Murray State softball has announced an additional five student-athletes that plan to continue their academic and athletic careers as Racers. The 2021- 2022 class additions feature Emma Olejniczak (O Ledge NaZak) of Perry, Iowa; Kenadie Gonzalez of South Windsor, Connecticut; Gracie Osborn of Paris, Tennessee; Aryanna Marrow of Lexington, and Jade King of Louisville. Olejniczak is a grad transfer from Iowa, Morrow is a transfer from PITT, Osborn is a transfer from Jackson State, while King and Gonzalez are incoming freshmen.

CARDINALS EDGE GIANTS
Harrison Bader drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning as the Cardinals edged the Giants 2-1 at Busch Stadium. Paul DeJong homered and Genesis Cabrera picked up the win for St. Louis, which took two of three in the series. Alex Reyes set a Major League record with his 24th consecutive save converted to start his career. The Cards host the Cubs tonight with airtime set for 6:20 on WNBS.

REGIONAL MINOR LEAGUE ROUNDUP
In Minor league games, the Louisville Bats defeated the Sounds 4-2 in Nashville while the Memphis Redbirds beat the Norfolk Tides 12-6 in Memphis.

SEC FOOTBALL MEDIA DAYS BEGIN TODAY
SEC Football Media Days start today in Hoover, Alabama. Kentucky head coach Mark Stoops will speak to the media tomorrow. He’ll be joined by offensive lineman Darian Kinnard, and defensive lineman Josh Paschal at the event, which ends on Thursday. The Wildcats will open their season September 4th at home against Louisiana-Monroe. New Tennessee head coach Josh Heupel will also be at the main podium tomorrow. He will be joined by redshirt senior wide receiver Velus Jones and senior defensive back Alonte Taylor. The event will wrap up on Thursday.

PREDS FINALIZE EXPANSION DRAFT ROSTER
The Predators have finalized their protection list ahead of the expansion draft for the Seattle Kraken. Nashville chose to protect eight skaters and goalie Juuse Saros. Some of the notable players the Preds left exposed to the expansion draft are Matt Duchene, Ryan Johansen and Calle Jarnkrok. The Kraken start the Expansion Draft on Wednesday night, when they will select one player from each NHL team other than the Vegas Golden Knights, who are exempt from the draft.

PREDS TRADE ELLIS
The Nashville Predators traded defenseman Ryan Ellis to the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday. Nashville got back defenseman Philippe Myers and forward Nolan Patrick in the Ellis deal with the Flyers. The Preds then traded Patrick to Vegas for forward Cody Glass.

BLUES UPDATE
The Blues are revealing their list of protected players leading up to this week’s Expansion Draft. One player from each NHL team will be picked to join the new expansion team, the Seattle Kraken. St. Louis’ list of eleven protected players are Ivan Barbashev, Jordan Kyrou, Ryan O’Reilly, David Perron, Brayden Schenn, Oskar Sundqvist, Robert Thomas, Justin Faulk, Torey Krug, Colton Parayko, and Jordan Binnington. More than 20 players on the Blues are available to be the one picked by Seattle Wednesday night.

NASHVILLE SC DOWNS CHICAGO
Hany Mukhtar recorded the fastest hat trick in MLS history as Nashville SC beat the Chicago Fire 5-1 in Nissan Stadium. Mukhtar scored three goals in the first 16 minutes of play, C.J. Sapong added another first-half goal and Brian Anunga found the back of the net in the second half. Nashville is fifth in the MLS Eastern Conference standings with 22 points and travel to Columbus on Wednesday.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
More athletes are testing positive for COVID-19 in the Olympic Village. On Sunday, organizers in Tokyo confirmed ten new cases connected to the games. According to Reuters, South Africa revealed two of its soccer players along with a team analyst all tested positive for the virus. Japan is going ahead with the games despite rising infection rates. There have been at least a thousand new cases in Tokyo’s general population for five consecutive days. Polls show many Japanese people are against holding the games because of the pandemic. Opening ceremonies are set for Friday.

American tennis star Coco Gauff is pulling out of the Olympics after testing positive for COVID-19. Gauff tweeted her sadness over missing out on what she called “a dream of mine.” The 17-year-old player said she was disappointed to share the news and wished “TEAM USA the best of luck” in the Tokyo Games.

NHL teams revealed their protected lists Sunday, which exposed many star players to the Seattle Kraken in the expansion draft. Teams were allowed to protect seven forwards, three defensemen and a goalie, or eight skaters and one goalie. Montreal Canadiens goalie Carey Price, St. Louis Blues winger Vladimir Tarasenko and New Jersey Devils defenseman P.K. Subban were some of the most notable players left exposed by their respective teams. The New York Yankees are banning a fan for life after he hit a player with a baseball at Yankee Stadium. The incident took place Saturday night when a fan threw a baseball from the stands and hit Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo in the back. The fan was ejected from the game, but wasn’t arrested. The MLB announced the fan will be banned from all other 29 league ballparks, in addition to Yankee Stadium. Yankees manager Aaron Boone described the incident as “awful, embarrassing, unacceptable.”

Collin Morikawa shot a bogey-free four-under on Sunday to take home his second Major championship, winning the Open Championship at Royal Saint George’s. The Los-Angeles native shot 15-under for the tournament, beating out his closest competitor, Jordan Spieth, by two strokes. Louis Oosthuizen, who led going into the final round, shot a one-over 71 to fall to into a tie for third at 11-under with Jon Rahm.

It’s a new day in New Hampshire for Aric Almirola. The Ford number 10 outlasted the field to pick up the NASCAR Cup Series win at Loudon. The win snaps a 98-race winless streak for Almirola. Christopher Bell finished second while Brad Keselowski took third. Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney rounded out the top five.
