TIGERS AND LAKERS CLAIM TITLES AT TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Murray High’s Sebastian Lawrence claimed state titles in the shot put and discus at the KHSAA Class 1A State Track & Field Championships in Lexington. Murray High also brought home the state title in the 4×100 meter relay. Calloway County’s Trystan Wright won the state championship in the 110 meter hurdles at the KHSAA Class 2A State Track and Field Championships. Calloway County’s Kaylee Jackson won the Unified state championship in the shot put. Marshall County’s Sophie Galloway won three state championships at the Class 3A state meet, claiming titles in the long jump, the triple jump, and the 100m hurdles. She also set state records in the hurdles and the triple jump. Marshall County’s Ben Fiser won the state discus championship with teammate Will Davis winning the 400 meters and Marshall County’s Cade Flatt won the 800 meters championship. In addition, Marshall County’s 4×400 team won the state title, helping the Marshals finish in third place overall in 3A.

KHSAA STATE BASEBALL TOURNEY ROUNDUP
Both area teams won opening round games on Saturday at the KHSAA State Baseball Tournament. McCracken County scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to down Bowling Green 5-4. The Mustangs trailed 4-0 after five innings before rallying for the win on a walk off RBI from Braden Vinyard. McCracken County advances to Lexington and will batle Collins on Wednesday. It took extra innings for Lyon County to knock off Owensboro Catholic 4-3 on Saturday. Lyon County advanced with a 4-3 win in eight innings over Owensboro Catholic. The Lyons will take on Whitley County on Thursday in Lexington. Danville and Lafayette will play in Wednesday’s late quarterfinal contest, while Hazard will square off against Trinity in Thursday’s second quarterfinal game.

KHSAA STATE SOFTBALL TOURNEY ROUNDUP
The KHSAA State Softball Tournament suffered through weather-related delays with three first round games moved to today, including games involving both area teams. McCracken County will play Butler at 10 am, followed by Warren East and Henderson County, and then Green County and Henry County. Advancing yesterday was Boyle County, Lafayette, and Pendleton County, after Lewis County and Daviess County advanced in Friday and Saturday action.

KENTUCKY FALLS TO INDIANA IN ALL STAR SERIES
Kentucky’s boys basketball high school All-Star Team is dealing with a sweep at the hands of the Indiana All-Star Team. Kentucky lost the first game Friday night in Owensboro, 93-70. The Kentucky team lost again on Saturday night, 86-70, in Indianapolis. Indiana leads the all-time series 101-to-44.

CUBS COMPLETE SWEEP OF CARDINALS
The Cubs extended their winning streak to five after sweeping the Cardinals with a 2-0 win in Chicago. Zach Davies tossed six-and-two-third scoreless innings for the win. The Cubs remain tied with the Brewers for first place in the NL Central standings. The Cardinals managed just two hits for the game from Dylan Carlson and Tyler O’Neill. Carlos Martinez suffered the loss after giving up two unearned runs in seven innings. St. Louis has dropped nine-of-10 and is now six games behind in the division and host the Marlins tonight with a 6:20 airtime on Classic Hits WNBS AM and FM.

AREA MINOR LEAGUE ROUNDUP
The Memphis Redbirds were able to top Gwinnett 7-6 in extra innings in Memphis. They are now 15-and-21. The Redbirds are off today and will be at Indianapolis starting tomorrow. The Louisville Bats were the victim of a nine-run second inning as they lost to the Mud Hens 10-4 in Toledo. They are now 12-and-23. They’re off today and will be at Omaha tomorrow. Indianapolis downed Nashville 7-4.

NC STATE BOUNCES HOGS; VOLS AND DORES ADVANCE TO CWS
NC State sent the top-overall seed packing in the NCAA Baseball Championship. The Wolfpack stunned Arkansas 3-2 in Sunday’s finale of the Fayetteville Super Regional, winning the best-of-three series two-games-to-one. NC State was one of six teams to advance to the College World Series over the weekend. Stanford, Arizona, Vanderbilt, Texas, and Tennessee also punched tickets to Omaha with wins in the Super Regional round. Two series will have win-or-go-home games on Monday. Mississippi State will square off with Notre Dame in Starkville, while Dallas Baptist battles Virginia in Columbia. The men’s College World Series gets going on Saturday in Omaha.

TITANS BEGIN MINICAMP TUESDAY
OTAs are over in the Music City. The Tennessee Titans will begin mandatory minicamp tomorrow. The camp will run through Thursday. The team will then break and reconvene later this summer for training camp ahead of Tennessee’s preseason kickoff on August 13th at Atlanta.

CLOCK TICKING ON BAFFERT AND HRC
Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert has until Wednesday to come to a resolution in his legal battle with the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission. Baffert sued the commission last week claiming Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit wasn’t given due process following a failed drug test. Baffert says his team needs possession of Medina Spirit’s urine sample. He says he needs the sample to prove his claim that the colt’s failed test for a steroid is due to a topical ointment and not an injection.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
The Bucks are getting even and the Suns are moving on in the NBA Playoffs. Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 34 points as the Bucks topped the Nets 107-96 in Game Four in Milwaukee. Nets guard Kyrie Irving left with a sprained right ankle. The series is tied a two games apiece. Devin Booker scored 34 points as the Suns ousted the Nuggets 125-118 to finish off a four-game sweep in Denver. Phoenix is advancing to the Western Conference Finals. Tonight, the 76ers visit the Hawks for Game Four of their series and the Clippers host the Jazz for Game Four in LA.

The Nets are dealing with yet another injury to a star player. Brooklyn lost Kyrie Irving to a right ankle injury in Sunday’s 107-96 loss to the Bucks in Game Four in Milwaukee. Irving was injured late in the second quarter and was able to walk off under his own power. X-rays came back negative. The Nets are already without superstar guard James Harden, who is battling a hamstring injury. The series is tied at two games apiece. Game Five is in Brooklyn on Tuesday.

Ryan Pulock scored early in the third period as the Islanders topped the Lightning 2-1 in the first game of their Stanley Cup Semifinal matchup in Tampa. Semyon Varlamov made 30 saves in the win for the Isles. Andrei Vasilevskiy made 29 saves in the loss. Tonight, the Vegas Golden Knights will host the Montreal Canadiens in the other Stanley Cup Semifinal. The two teams will do battle for the Clarence S. Campbell Bowl, which the Habs have never won in their illustrious history.

The world’s number one player rallied back from two sets down to win the French Open in Paris on Sunday. Novak Djokovic beat Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-7 (6-8) 2-6 6-3 6-2 6-4 to win the 19th Grand Slam of his career. It’s only the second time he’s won on the clay at Roland Garros, though. He stands one major behind Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, both of whom are tied at 20, for most career Grand Slam victories.

Kyle Larson is going home with a million dollars. Larson held off the field to win the NASCAR All-Star Race at Texas Motor Speedway. The win comes a week after Larson picked up the win at Sonoma. Brad Keselowski finished second in the All-Star Race. Chase Elliott took third while Joey Logano and Ryan Blaney rounded out the top five.

Garrick Higgo picked up the victory after leader Chesson Hadley gave up a two-shot lead on the final three holes at the Palmetto Championship at Congaree. Hadley bogeyed 16, 17, and 18 to go from 13-under to 10-under for the Tournament, giving the 22-year-old Higgo the win. The South African shot a three-under 68 on the day to finish the tournament at 11-under, ahead of a group of six that included Bo Van Pelt and Jhonattan Vegas. Next week is the Tour’s third Major of the season, the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.
