SEMO-MOREHEAD SERIES CANCELED
The weekend baseball series between SEMO and Morehead State was canceled yesterday due to COVID-19 protocols in the Eagles program. Morehead State does have the needed number of players available to compete in the series that was set for this weekend in Morehead. The series will not be rescheduled and games will be considered no contest in the Ohio Valley Conference standings. SEMO is currently tied with Murray State for first place in the OVC and the Racers can take sole possession of first place by winning at least 2 games this weekend at SIUE.

CARDINALS BLAST BREWERS IN EXTRAS
Paul Goldschmidt hit a go-ahead two-run blast in the top of the 11th inning in Cardinals 6-1 extra-inning win over the Brewers in Milwaukee. Four batters later, Tyler O’Neill followed up with a three-run blast of his own. Kwang Hyun Kim gave up just one run over five and a third for St. Louis, which won its fourth straight. The series continues tonight at 6:40 with airtime set for 5:45 on WNBS AM and FM.

MEMPHIS WINS BEHIND ANOTHER BIG NIGHT FROM JA
One day after clinching a play-in spot, the Memphis Grizzlies dominate the visiting Mavericks, 133-104 at home. Ja Morant scored a team-high 24 points, with Dillon Brooks following behind with 22. Memphis stays in the ninth spot in the West, four games behind Dallas for the sixth seed.

FORMER KWC COACH ARRESTED
A former Kentucky Wesleyan College assistant men’s basketball coach is facing a rape charge in Evansville. Evansville Police say 33-year-old Cardell McFarland was arrested yesterday morning and is being held in the Vanderburgh County Jail. The charge stems from an alleged incident that happened Monday night at the victim’s home. Police say the victim told them McFarland forced himself on her. McFarland denies the allegation.

TITANS AWAIT NFL SCHEDULE DROP
The Tennessee Titans will join the rest of the NFL in releasing the highly anticipated 2021 schedule tonight. Some of Tennessee’s opponents include home games against Kansas City and Buffalo. It’s now just a matter of when they will play those teams.

VOLS OPENER MOVED TO SEPTEMBER 2ND
Tennessee Football will get started two days earlier than expected as the season opener has been moved to Thursday, September 2nd. The Vols will play at night against Bowling Green for new coach Josh Heupel’s first game and the start of Neyland Stadium’s 100th season.

MEDINA SPIRIT FAVORED IN PREAKNESS
Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit is the favorite to win Saturday’s 146th Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore. The colt will break from the number three post position. The ten-horse field for the second leg of the Triple Crown was set yesterday. Medina Spirit will be allowed to compete despite a failed drug test following the Derby after hall of fame trainer Bob Baffert agreed to additional drug testing and a review of the horse’s medical records.

BAFFERT ADMITS TO STEROID OINTMENT
Medina Spirit’s trainer Bob Baffert admitted Tuesday to giving the horse ointment that contained the steroid betamethasone. Horses can no longer receive the steroid two weeks before a race, but Medina Spirit received the ointment until the day before the Kentucky Derby. Baffert and Medina Spirit will have their Derby win disqualified if a second test for the steroid comes back positive.

BLUES HOST WILD
The Blues host the Wild tonight. St. Louis snapped a three-game losing streak with an overtime victory over the Kings Monday. The Blues and Wild face off twice over the next two days to wrap up the regular season.

NATIONAL SPORTS BRIEFS
The N-F-L will release the league’s 2021 schedule tonight. The 17-game schedule drop will air exclusively on the NFL Network at 7 pm Central time. The league has already announced the 17th games for teams, which feature the A-F-C as the home team against all N-F-C opponents. Those games feature Pittsburgh hosting Seattle, Baltimore hosting the LA Rams, and Kansas City hosting Green Bay.

The Miami Heat are headed to the playoffs. They clinched a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs with a 129-121 win over the Celtics in Boston. Four teams clinched spots in the play-in tournaments — two in the East, two in the West. The Charlotte Hornets, the Indiana Pacers, the Golden State Warriors, and the Memphis Grizzlies are all headed to the play-in round.

Alex Rodriguez and company are still not the owners of the Minnesota Timberwolves. After the 30-day exclusive negotiating window to buy the team from current owner Glen Taylor, no formal deal has been reached. According to E-S-P-N, both sides are continuing negotiations in good faith. It was announced on April 10th that the team would be sold to the former baseball star and Marc Lore.

Major League Baseball is giving the green light for the Oakland Athletics to look for a new home. ESPN reports the announcement could put pressure on Oakland officials to get a new stadium project moving after years in limbo. A waterfront mixed-use development proposal with a new stadium in Oakland is on the table, but franchise owner John Fisher says they will also follow the league’s direction to explore other markets. After the relocation of the Raiders and the Golden State Warriors, the A’s are the only team that still calls Oakland home.

Former University of Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan is dead. He was 37. Hawaii News Now says it’s believed Brennan was at a California rehab facility when he died. The Heisman Trophy finalist enjoyed much success at Hawaii more than a decade ago. That included breaking the NCAA record for touchdown passes. Brennan was drafted in the sixth round by Washington.
